Charm and Comfort
Our stay at the Ballymartin Cottage was everything and more. The cottage was clean, well equipped, and very comfortable. Mary was very accommodating when we had a flight cancel, she didn't have too, but she did and we so appreciated it. She was also great showing us around the house so we felt comfortable with ins and outs as things are a little different than in the US.
Sitting at night around the fireplace was by far the best part for us . We reminisced our day and planned the next with a bottle of wine and peat fire. We can't say enough how absolutely charming and comfortable the Cottage was. It was just a magic vacation.
And the sheep! It was the icing on the cake. They were so sweet greeting us every morning.
Thank you! M
Many thanks for your review Melissa. Delighted you enjoyed the property, location and your stay. Thanks too for being respectful of the cottage. Hope to see you all again! Kindest regards. M
Fantastic Cottage in Ideal Country Setting
The cottage located near the town of Kilmaine was the perfect jumping off point for our genealogy trip into County Mayo and nearby County Galway. The accommodations were well appointed, clean, spacious and easy to get to. Being a native left hand driver, I had only wished my first driving experience on the other side would have been from the tiny Knock airport to this cottage. Located on a working farm, views surrounded us of stone walls enclosing sheep in lush green pastures. At one point on our trip home a neighbor’s sheep were being herded between fields down the narrow road leading to the cottage; so idyllic! The location was quiet, but with plenty to do within an easy drive, including Galway, Cong, Wild Atlantic Way drive, Kylemore Abbey and Connemara National Park.
My parents and I thoroughly enjoyed having the chance to meet with Mary to learn of the 18th century family history of the originally thatched cottage and the loving restoration process that took place. She was also very helpful in pointing us to a nearby genealogy research center in Ballinrobe, which just goes to show the kindness and hospitality that exists in Ireland. We would certainly stay here again.
Tidy, well appointed, and charming.
Thanks for your kind comments. I am glad you felt happy and peaceful at The Ballymartin Arms. Thank you for choosing to stay with us. Appreciate that you left my ancestral home in very good condition with everything as you found it. Delighted to have met you and your London friends. So, spread the word , tell your friends. Thanks again. Mary
Beautiful Country Home
The location of this cozy, warm cottage is breathtaking. Surrounded by sheep and fields of green as far as your eyes can see. Its the perfect quiet and tranquil location for someone from the busy city to escape to. That being said, you will want to have a vehicle with you as it is not walking distance to town. The inside of the cottage is modern and welcoming and the owners are very responsive and helpful. I could not recommend this haven more.
Lovely, quiet property in great location.
We would definitely recommend this cottage. It was a great home base for our adventures. We kayaked the Connemara, went to Galway, The Cliffs of Moher and many places in between. The cottage was clean and quiet and Mary was very welcoming. There was information on tourist areas and it was great to have access to a fully equipped kitchen as well as a washing machine. The scenery was amazing and waking up to a view of rabbits and sheep was a great way to start the day. We cannot say enough about how perfect this location was...solitude in the country with towns only 5-10 minutes away. Thanks for the terrific stay.
Pretty, well equiped cottage
Well equiped, comfortable and clean cottage. Well located for touring Mayo,Connamara. Landscape ever changing - Mountains, valleys & loughs. Some beautiful beaches - Old Head and near toTully Cross.
A bit remote but with Ballinrobe only 10 minutes by car and Cong 15 minutes, plenty of places to eat. The Pyramid in La Neale was exceptional - beautiful food and service. Cong has several bars/restaurants - Ashford Castle's restaurant has just been awarded the Wine Cellar Ireland 2016 award.
Just didn't have long enough to visit everything. Next time????
