About the property

3 bedroom farmhouse with 3 fireplaces and creek

Welcome to Stilton Cottage!

Classic 1880s farmhouse, completely restored, with babbling brook, minutes from the Taconic and the village of Millbrook, close to Rhinebeck, Bard, & Omega

This totally renovated 1880 farmhouse sits in the hamlet of Salt Point, in convenient proximity to the Villages of Millbrook, Rhinebeck and the Taconic State Parkway. While it is distinguished as a landmark by the Town of Clinton Historical Society, it has been renovated for comfortable living while retaining much of its original beauty. It boasts THREE fireplaces, antique doors and hardware, beautiful hard wood floors, built-in shelving and handsome exposed beams.

A seamless 2005 addition to the house provides a beautiful new kitchen with granite counters and stainless steel appliances. It flows nicely into the dining room and opens wide into the expansive living room, perfect for entertaining family and friends. A spacious, light filled conservatory opens to a slate terrace at the rear of the house, overlooking the frontage on the Wappingers Creek.

Close to Millbrook, Rhinebeck, Omega. 0.5 miles from the Taconic, 20 mins to Poughkeepsie, Rhinecliff or Dover Plains train stations.

Weekend in the Country

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend in the country. Great spot for a family vacation, a variety of activities within a 30 minute drive in any direction. The house is pretty, spacious and comfortable and the hosts are accommodating and helpful, respond to any questions promptly.

Wonderful House for Friends

  • 5 of 5

We rented Lauren's and Justin's house for a group of friends who live far apart from one another, and found it to exceed our expectations. The house is perfect for people who wish to spend a weekend with one another, cooking meals for each other and gathering by the stove. As others have stated, the kitchen is well appointed and provides everything necessary. The rooms are comfortable and charming, and everybody slept very well.

Lauren and Justin thoughtfully provided a guide to the house and area several days before our departure, which answered any questions we had. I recommend their house unreservedly to anyone who would like to visit Duchess County any time of year.

Lovely Farm House

  • 4 of 5

The house is perfectly situated for exploring Dutchess County, no more than a 30-minute drive to every place we wanted to visit. The downstairs rooms, bedrooms and bath were comfy, clean and well-maintained. The kitchen was clean and well stocked; however, the coffee mugs & glasses were dirty--just rinsed and put away. We put everything we used in the dishwasher for the next visitor, but there was no dishwasher detergent. We didn't do much cooking, but the inside of the oven and toaster oven were filthy. We had a problem, which will not affect future guests: the owner had told us that there might be some noise due to work on the bridge adjacent to the house. Actually, the front of the house was a construction zone--the workers and their heavy machinery arrived at about 6:30am each morning & woke us up with an "alarm" of moving concrete and chainsaws. The owner checked in with us and apologized sincerely. He was also promptly responsive to emails and texts. Our evenings were peaceful and we enjoyed the living room and fireplace. We would definitely recommend this property to our friends.

Great get away

  • 4 of 5

The house and setting are wonderful. Wappinger Creek provides for a relaxing background sound as you relax in the master bedroom or living room. Fun balance of mid-century Modern and historic farmhouse. Lots of books, games and room to relax. We were there in some unseasonable heat - with a little patience with the older screens and the natural air conditioning things cooled down nicely. Easy access to Poughkeepsie and other lovely small towns.

Lovely and spacious country house

  • 5 of 5

Stilton Cottage has a great kitchen, fully stocked with all kitchen tools and staples. It is always great to NOT have to buy salt, pepper, vinegar, oil, etc. Bedrooms upstairs with very comfortable beds and two full baths. Washer and dryer were very helpful. Nicely decorated salon and living room were welcoming and cheery. Lots of art! And lots of books! The breezeway between the house and garage was a God-send for us as it allowed us to stage our stuff, as we needed to do some triage and repacking. Plenty of parking space in front of the garage. Great place for a family reunion.

Great For A Weekend Away from NYC

  • 5 of 5

When we arrived, everyone agreed that pictures on the listing did not do justice to the farmhouse. We found a beautiful home with everything that we wanted for a weekend getaway from the city. The dogs loved the massive backyard, and the living room fireplace kept us warm and cozy throughout our stay. The house is equipped with a Nest system to regulate the temperature, and Justin very helpfully preheated the house before we arrived. The Google Doc provided with the listing was very helpful in answering any questions we had while we were there (like how to use the high tech stove) and the house was well supplied when we arrived. We really hope we get the chance to come back another time!
