Within 30 minutes drive from the cottage, the town of Barry’s Bay offers a great selection of stores including 2 large grocery chains, an LCBO, Beer Store, pharmacy, bank, post office, hardware store as well as several restaurants. About 10 minutes further onwards to Ottawa, the hamlet of Wilno, the first Polish settlement in Canada, offers a great tavern, several artist shops as well as spectacular views of the Madawaska Valley.
Algonquin Park’s East Gate is conveniently located about 40 minutes drive from the cottage. Several attractions including the Logging Museum at km 54.5, the Visitor Centre at km 43, as well as 13 other Interpretive Walking Trails ranging from a spectacular 1.9 km long Lookout Trail at km 39.7 to the demanding 10 km Centennial Ridges Trail are highly recommended half day to full day trips from the cottage.

About the owner: We live and work in Ottawa but have been coming back to the same area around Barry's Bay for well over 30 years. As a family, we enjoy canoe tripping, sailing, swimming, skiing and skating.
Why the Owner Chose South Algonquin, ON, Canada:
We have vacationed on several lakes in the area for well over 20 years. We choose to build a cottage on Aylen Lake for its remoteness and peacefulness. It may be an extra 20 minutes drive than most other cottages in the Barry's Bay area, but the vast clean and clear waterway that it offers along with the few neighbours that are visible due to the kilometres of crown land that share the shoreline, are well worth it! Hearing the call of the loon, the screech of an owl or the howling of wolves in the distant background are the sounds that you will be falling asleep to on a nightly basis during the summer months. The proximity of Algonquin Park not only offers direct access to hundreds of kilometres of canoe routes but countless day trips, the Algonquin Park Visitor Centre, Outdoor Theatre and Logging Museum. If you want a quiet, peaceful experience in Canada's wilderness with all the modern amenities, this is the place!
