Great Cabin

  • 5 of 5

We loved the cabin so much. It was clean, warm and cozy. Our family of five was comfortable on the beds, and sleeping pads. Close to skiing. The welcome wine was also a nice touch.

Immaculate house in a great location

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved our stay in Long Barn this New Year's eve, the house feels almost like new, it has a nice layout of rooms (I particularly liked that the bedrooms were on the first floor separate from the ground floor living and kitchen, so noises did not bother people who wanted to sleep earlier), an open floor in the common area makes it easy to see and talk to everybody. Our hosts were a pleasure to communicate with, provided us with extra blankets and added a nice personal touch to welcoming us in their house. Beds are very comfortable, with memory foam mattresses, we all slept very well there. Kitchen is stocked up adequately, but i would prefer to have dinnerware for 12, not 8 people, because we could not rotate them fast enough without running a dishwasher twice a day. A small but adequate backyard is where our kids played in snow for hours, and the house is 20 min away from the Dodge Ridge ski resort. To have some variety of activities we went to the skating rink which is right across from the cabin, nice small community feeling. The house is in the very center of the town, and on our last day of stay during the snow blizzard we noticed the streets are cleaned faster and better next to it comparing to more remote locations. Note - there is no internet or phone reception with any provider except for Verizon. We would definitely consider coming back to this house again.

Fun, clean and perfectly located for mountain fun!

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at the cabin. Everything was very clean and comfortable, with lots of space to accommodate kids, adults and dogs. The cabin is located in a great spot to enjoy all the fun the mountains have to offer and is a nice place to come home to after a day in the snow! Highly recommend this cabin to families who want to visit the area and know they will have a comfortable, convenient place to stay.

Lovely accommodations

  • 5 of 5

We very much enjoyed our time at this house. It was very clean, well maintained, had everything we needed (linens, towels, nice cooking pots and pans, plenty of glasses and dishes). Nice stove, toaster, microwave, dishwasher, laundry facilities, full size refrigerator. Ceiling fans in both bedrooms and the living room were much appreciated during our over 100 degree weather, but the air conditioner was also very efficient when needed. The house had a lovely fenced in yard for our 5 yr old to explore. Two large bedrooms upstairs with comfy queen size beds. One large tub/shower combo bathroom upstairs, one shower bathroom downstairs. My 90 yr old mother had no trouble climbing the well lit stairs. The way they are designed she could hold on to both sides of the stairs for more security.

We stopped at a well stocked Safeway in Sonora on the way to the rental house for groceries instead of carrying them from the SF Bay Area.

We drove to Columbia State Park for a day trip of panning for gold, exploring and experiencing an early gold rush era town.

We drove up to the Dardanelles for a nice day drive in the trees and had a nice picnic.

We went to the town of Twain Harte for a picnic by a babbling creek and great playground experience (Erosion Park) located in the downtown area, and wander through the charming town. We drove down a 2 mile unpaved logging road in our truck to the Lyon Reservoir for another picnic in a quiet secluded watershed area, where we saw an Eagle nest and watched the parents feed their babies from our picnic table. We also paid $5.00 per person to the Long Barn Lodge across the street from the house and could swim all day in their lovely large pool. We also stopped in at the National Forest Ranger Station on Hwy 108 to pick up a map of the area. While there, the ranges treated out 5 yr old Grandson to the story of Smokey The Bear and had an activity bag for him. They were very patient answering all of his many questions.

My ATT cell phone did not have service at the house but we picked up our messages just a few miles away in Twain Harte. Our neighbor in the next house had Verizon and had service. I personally enjoyed being electronically free for a few days. One suggestion, stop at AAA and pick up a map of the area before you come. If you forget, stop in at the ranger stations and pick one up (free).

Perfect Mountain Vacation

  • 5 of 5

This was the perfect house for me & my husband to enjoy a 5-day vacation of hiking and relaxing in the mountains. The house was very clean, which for me is essential. It is also nicely decorated and has an upgraded interior. The owner, Jenny, allowed a stay for our two small dogs & we were so pleased that the house had a fenced yard and lawn, which I don't often see in the mountains. My husband and I enjoyed two days of hiking at the Sonora Pass & near The Dardanelles, then relaxed at the house and enjoyed the yard. We would definitely rent this house again. Also, Jenny thoughtfully checked on us & brought us tomatoes!
