Great time in Spoleto Italy-Perfect Location
We had a wonderful time visiting Spoleto for the first time.
The entire experience was wonderful from start to finish. Norma and Laurie were a great help throughout the visit. The location of the apartment was great. Close to the train station, shops, restaurants and the moving walkways!
The people in Spoleto are so warm and welcoming. We will be back and will work with Norma and Laurie again!
This is the perfect place to stay in the perfect hilltop town. Tha apartment has easy access parking to tour the region or instant in town access from another entrance. Spoleto has everything to offer as any of the other walled cities w/ great restaurants, historical sites, easy grocery shopping but isn't too big to be an intimidating city or so small your done in a few hours. Don' t miss it or the hospitality of Laurie!!
Exceptional in every way
From pickup to drop off, our hosts could not have provided a better experience! Accommodations were superb; central location; unit exceptionally well equipped and Norma and Laurie were gracious, helpful and responsive. This was a true "bargain" and one of our best trips ever. Thanks for everything!
Fabulous guests! We loved you. And we hope to see you again! ❤️
What's not to love about this jewel?
It's hard to imagine a better place to stay in Spoleto. Belle-Due is beautiful, elegant, in a great central location, tucked away off Corso Garibaldi. It has large warm rooms, everything spotless and welcoming, with a terrace and views of the town and the mountains. Laurie and Norma are friendly and attentive.
Fabulous guests who are now life long friends !!
Great Vacation in Spoleto
My wife and I spent 10 days in Spoleto on our most recent vacation in Italy. The apartment was ready for us when we arrived and everything we needed was provided. Our hosts, Norma and Laurie, were attentive and helpful and made our stay memorable. The apartment is in a great location near the escalator and some great restaurants. I recommend this location without reservations.
We loved hosting Paul and his family. And they will get an even bigger Welcome when they return.
Loved Spoleto, apartment was larger than expected. Laurie picked us up at the station and also took us back at the end of our visit. Both he and Norma were quick to give help and advice ...at the end of the internet. Would recommend a visit to this beautiful area.
With free WiFi internet access, Bella Due, a stylish apartment, is in the historic, pedestrian centre of Spoleto called “il Borgo”, buzzing with shops, bars and restaurants as well as ancient monuments, churches and museums, at every twist and turn of Spoleto’s arched and cobbled streets. Housed within the famous 14C Rocca Dei Perugini, the stronghold for the Perugini, (where the battle between the Spoletini and the Perugini raged for 2 years until the Spoletini regained their city), located in Porta Fuga, one of the oldest mediaeval lanes in Spoleto, you are treated to all the advantages of contemporary living, while, at the same time, the atmosphere is laced with antiquity. You could not want to be in a better location than this!!
A car is NOT necessary as you are just 10 minutes walk from the train station and the bus terminus or a very short bus-ride. From the train station, you can get to practically anywhere in Italy. And, from the bus station, there are a myriad of really interesting journeys you can take, from little local rides around the hills, visiting a diversity of hill-top villages, to places as far afield as Castelluccio and Norcia – all spectacular rides!
Entering the Rocca Dei Perugini through its huge Roman archway, you reach Bella Due on the 4th floor by lift or stairs. All around you, placed strategically hither and thither, are plants and flowers. The interior of the this beautiful palazzo is very pretty with lots of sunlight.
The Rocca Dei Perugini is the midst of shops, bars and the largest selection of fantastic restaurants, all offering a diversity of dishes from local black truffles to pastas and paper thin, bubbly, crispy crust, piping hot pizzas.
Spoleto is not a touristy place and, therefore, prices are good, competitive local prices.
The local wines eg Trebbiano, Grechetto, Montefalco, Orvieto… are to die for. You will hardly notice the price of it on your bill.
You can choose from amazing shoe, bag and clothes shops, any shape or size, designer label or otherwise.
And, there are churches and monuments on street corners, under arches, through tunnelled alleyways, peppered hither and thither, as you meander along the picturesque cobbled lanes, every angle, a work of art. Fatal to take your camera out. You will obsessively do nothing but take photos!
The local bars are filled with friendly locals and the owners will warmly welcome you.
The passeggiata occurs twice a day but the main one is between 5 pm to 7.30 pm. This is the time of day when everyone meets and is joyful, especially over aperitivi.
Walk for 20 minutes to the top of Spoleto, pass the beautiful Rocca, a mediaeval castle open to the public, cross the famous ‘Ponte’, a huge aqueduct, and you are in the Sacred Mountains.
From Spoleto train station, a 10 mins walk, it is possible to get to practically anywhere in Italy eg 1 hr 20 mins to Rome, 4/5 hours to Venice and Naples, 30 mins to Perugia…. An easy walk along a flat boulevard road, also stuffed with shops and bars!
From the nearest bus stop, a 5 mins walk, you can catch a bus to Norcia, which will take you on a sensationally beautiful drive along the Valnerina, for about 1 hr 45 mins, passing through mountain scenery, climbing higher and higher.
Or, by car, you can continue further to the heart-stoppingly, amazing Gran Piano and see the tiny hick town of Castelluccio peeking through swirling mists. On a great plane, surrounded by mountains, the world spilling beneath you, your heart will miss a beat. In Castelluccio, you can dine on the finest lentils and white truffles.
Nearer to home, by car, it is easy to visit Todi, Gubbio, Orvieto, Perugia, Spello and Assisi, all within a 45 mins heavenly drive.
Spoleto is akin to a giant, fairy-tale castle. Sprinkled with bars, restaurants and shops, peppered with piazzas, Spoleto sits magestically amidst a maze of tunnelled, cobbled lanes and alley-ways, all leading skywards to the famous Rocca, the aquaduct and, some of the best views in the world. A surreal setting, a stage-set in the making, fringed by mountains, olive groves, vineyards, mediaeval monasteries, towns, cities and tiny hill-top villages – all beckoning a visit, Spoleto is truly a temptress. Succumb to her beauty and you must use all your will-power to leave. Quite simply, Spoleto is the most captivating city in Italy, never mind Umbria, Venice and Florence, being on a par.
Venice has the water. Florence has the Uffici. Spoleto has the mountains. All three have a history to be reckoned with. All three bedazzle us with their rich cultures, their European, aristocratic connections and their sheer beauty. But, Spoleto has the upper hand for the world traveller. It resists tourism with its associated inflated rates and tacky goods on sale ! You are invited to visit Spoleto, but, not as a tourist. You will be welcomed like a long lost member of the family! Treated like a king.
