A Cozy Retreat For Relaxing
This cottage is located within a longstanding residential community of lake cottages and year-round homes. The cottage has been beautifully renovated, freshly painted inside (and outside which the current pictures do not depict) with comfortable furniture and quaint decor. Each bedroom had a comfortable full sized bed and chest of drawers. The kitchen had the necessary equipment and was workable, although there is a lack of counter space and ventilation could be better. There is a new floating dock near the older dock, furnished with a hammock and chairs for lounging. We were a group of 5 adults, 4 children and 3 dogs, and found it comfortable and pleasant. We really enjoyed having our meals at a large table on the big porch outside while looking at the lake, and for playing board games and reading. Lake Silkworth is a smallish lake, with motor boats and wave runners very active on the weekends but quieter during the week. It is also very shallow, so the children enjoyed being able to swim/play in the water even 20 feet out from the shoreline. We also enjoyed kayaking around the lake. On two occasions, we went to Ricketts Glen State Park to hike and see the many waterfalls. It is a beautiful Park, although Lake Jean had been drawn down for a dam repair this summer, so no swimming was permitted at this time. Would love to visit again when the lake has refilled, as there is a large swimming beach. We ate out one night at a nearby pizza/Italian restaurant but mostly cooked at home, utilizing the gas grill near the lake shore. Mike and Laura were very welcoming, helpful and responsive whenever we called or texted, and provided us with all kinds of information about the area. They even delivered a new propane tank mid-week when we discovered the old one had run out! This was a good fit for the group we were part of, and we were all able to relax, unwind and enjoy each other's company! Recommended for families and couples looking for a low-key getaway.
Rickets Glen State Park is nearby - hike the Trails System and see the 22 beautiful waterfalls along the mountain.
