Great location. Wonderful terraces with fantastic views. We had a lovely holiday at Beam Reach. That said, the property is in need of some TLC.
Great location, house needs some care and attention
Beam Reach was an excellent location and we thoroughly enjoyed our time in Fowey because of this. One of the reasons I chose this house though was because of the garden ( outside space) this turned out to be a series of small unfurnished areas linked by incredible steep steps totally unsuitable for our 2 small children and 2 seniors in the party . At the very top was a decked area with an awesome view which potentially could be a great space ( for those who can reach it) however it had not been maintained and was completely covered in bird droppings which need to be power washed, This had obviously not been cleaned for a long time. The lack of outside space was not my main concern though. The cleanliness left a lot to be desired and there are several areas in the house which could be improved to enhance the customer experience and warrant the high price tag. They windows were rotten which left gaps in the wood and there is a gaping hole in the back door which let in an unwanted frog visitor. The floors had been vacuumed but most definitely not mopped and the kitchen needs to be deep cleaned, I cleaned up the stains from the cupboard doors and down the side of the dishwasher before we did anything. Kitchen was not very well equipped - I suggest that a full inventory should be carried out by housekeeper every changeover day. Finally, given that the house is right on the street I suggest that it would be preferable to install plantation type shutters on the two downstairs bedroom windows rather than the full shutters. It is extremely dark in those bedrooms and impossible to open shutters given heavy foot traffic on the street outside, Overall a great holiday, as I said excellent location, but I do not feel as though this house represents good value for money in the current state,
No parking but stunning views
This was a great cottage and we loved staying in it. However we are in our seventies and feel that the company should have been much more upfront about the parking situation. It was an 5-8 minute walk to the nearest carpark, Calla Mill, and impossible to drop anything off at the cottage first so problems with unloading and packing the car took up a disproportionate amount of thought and effort in what should have been a relaxing week. Putting that to one side the cottage is beautifully furnished and well equipped and we still miss the river views.
Beautifully decorated cottage with great views of the estuary
A wonderfully set out and decorated period cottage in a great location, with views from the highest point in the back garden (c/w decking, seats and a summer house with fridge) to die for. The second floor bedroom is set in the eaves with an en-suite bathroom is a wonderful place to both sleep and watch the estuary. The kitchen/diner/living room space on the first floor is a bright space which is nice to hang out in. On the ground floor are two quirky bedrooms with two single beds each and a bathroom to the rear.
(Note: the only reason it's 4 and not 5 stars is because of the musty damp smell that initially greets you from the ground floor and which quickly builds up when the doors and windows are shut. Not a problem on a hot week where you are able to air the property, but definitely something which would be an issue otherwise and i feel warrants some attention by the owners).
Nice house good location
Lovely and comfortable cottage in a great location
The cottage was very comfortable and clean. We were 4 adults staying for 6 nights at the beginning of May. The location was perfect for us, it's an easy walk to centre of Fowey with all the shops and restaurants. Parking was good this time of year, we particularly liked booking the car parking via an app for the whole duration of our stay so didn't need to worry about displaying parking tickets. We were also able to do it from the comfort of the cottage as we arrived in the evening. The only disadvantage of staying in this part of Fowey is the limited space for loading/unloading the car. But we did manage as there is an area not far from the cottage where some space is available. The cottage is unsuitable for people with mobility problems as there are narrow steps into and inside the cottage. The garden is very steep with uneven steps but with a fantastic view from the top level. There is a large decking area with seating. We loved the cottage and will definitely come back in the future. We were very happy with booking through Cornwall's Cottages. They were brilliant, very helpful staff. Thank you
