A very comfortable and we'll equipped house.
This lovely upside down house is perfect for a family holiday. It is an easy walk to the centre of St. Mawes and sailing facilities. I would suggest parking for 2 cars only as it is on the bend of the road. The garden is beautiful and very sheltered. There is excellent shower room at the back door.
A lovely family house with every aspect catered for in a lovely area . I can highly recommend this property. Thank you for a fantastic holiday.
Great way to celebrate one of those special birthdays!
I can honestly say that we were all (that's all 9 of us!) impressed with the house and its position in St Mawes. The set up is fantastic, especially as we had dogs with us. Downstairs was perfect for the canines - and the view from upstairs - amazing.
Apart from the first night (when we walked 10min to nearest pub!) we actually cooked/ate our main meals 'in' as the kitchen is well equipped and easy for our 'chef of the day' to still feel part of the group as the rooms are so well arranged.
Wouldn't hesitate to book again for the next celebration.
Beautiful and practical space for a large family holiday
We rented High Meadows for our family and friends New Year's get together. It had the number of bedrooms that we needed and the owners were also kind enough to allow us to bring our dog.
We are a mixture of couples with a couple of teen age children and the space was perfect for our group. The lad had a room where he could set up his X-box without being disturbed by the "embarrassing" grown-ups and we had a fantastic area to chat, play some games and have a bit of a dance. There was also a massive dining room with a table big enough to everyone for our New Year's Day lunch.
The bedrooms were lovely and comfortable with most of them having en-suite bathrooms. There was also a huge utility room which was handy for doing some laundry, meaning that we didn't have to take home piles of dirty clothes.
As we were there at New Year, we didn't have to the chance to enjoy the gardens but they looked beautiful, perfect for a summer holiday, I would imagine. As all of the living area is upstairs, there are beautiful views across the estuary from the kitchen. There are a couple of balconies, one of which is big enough to sit on and watch the sunset whilst enjoying a glass or two of wine.
The location of the property is ideal, being only a short walk from the centre of St Mawes, where there are a selection of pubs, restaurants and a couple of shops.
This house felt like it is really loved by its owners and not just a soulless holiday home. They left the Christmas tree there for us to enjoy along with some other decorations. I would absolutely recommend it for large groups looking for somewhere to enjoy a family holiday with the space to be able to find a quiet corner if needed.
We all agreed that this was the perfect accommodation and location for our group and would love to go again next year - availability permitting.
A good house for a family holiday but rather expensive. Plenty to do for a seaside holiday for the young people.
Fabulous family vacation
2018 was our fifth holiday at High Meadows, the large house suits our needs perfectly.
Grandparents in the master suite, daughter 1 and family in the three bedroom area, daughter 2 and family in the two bedroom area. Our five grandchildren loved the garden they call the house "upside down"
We have been taking holidays in and around St Mawes for 50 years on and off, so all the local beaches, ferries and NT locations are easy to plan.
Recommend High Meadows without reservation.
Thank you for your very helpful feedback and high scores for many of the ratings. However, as a guest who has stayed at High Meadows a number of times, I was concerned that you gave lower scores for cleanliness and condition on this occasion. I understand that the cleanliness point related to just one of the bathrooms and nearby wardrobe area. I have passed your comments on to our cleaners who normally do an excellent job and I am sure they will take extra care in future. I am also glad you like the improvements we have made to the patio doors and glass balconies, but I note the problems with the latches on two small side windows. We will have these windows looked at and also address the problem with the porch guttering. Thank you again and we look forward to welcoming you back to High Meadows very soon.
St Mawes is one of the finest waterside villages in Cornwall. Situated overlooking an idyllic bay on the eastern side of the famous Falmouth Estuary, St Mawes has one of the mildest climates in Britain due to its proximity to the Gulf Stream. The sea is at the heart of the village and has helped to shape St Mawes from the little fishing village to the fashionable holiday destination that is so popular with visitors. A mecca for boating enthusiasts, St Mawes is a particularly popular sailing centre. Weekly club racing, village regattas and larger events are commonplace on the superb waters of the bay all through the summer.St Mawes has so much to offer the visitor. St Mawes Castle was built by Henry VIII and is a splendid place to take in the views of the Carrick Roads. There are miles of coastal and countryside walks to take in and some idyllic beaches on which to relax and watch the world go by. The little Place Ferry takes visitors to explore St Anthony's Head or there are regular ferries to Falmouth. Being situated on the seafront, the village is also known for the restaurants and pubs that serve superb fish and shellfish dishes all year round. There is a selection of pubs & hotels with restaurants (including the renowned Tresanton Hotel) all within easy walking distance. There is a range of shops all within a few minutes' walk including a well-stocked Cooperative store, Post Office, chemist, butchers, and art, book and clothes shops. The village also has a doctor's surgery and a dentist's surgery.
