The amazing surrounding views
This home is very well represented in the photos. I found it extremely private. The garden is surrounded by lush plants so even when you are outside on the lanai you feel like your alone.
Each morning I woke in complete silence. It was very peaceful. It is odd but there is something truly calming about looking out your window and seeing cows grazing. Every vacation home should have them.
The kitchen is fully functional. The hosts left 100% kona coffee for us which was very welcome. We cooked almost all our meals at home and had no problems.
We also enjoyed time in the hot tub.
There are pairs of boogie boards, beach chairs and an umbrella which we made full use of on our trips to the kohala beach.
The hosts were extremely wonderful people. So nice. This is a lovely place to stay and I hope to stay again.
This town is very small and out of the loop of most visitors but we love it this way. We visited Hawaii from California once a year for many years to different islands and found this a new experience to us. The property is in a very excluded area and surrounded by farmland with cow and horses as neighbor. The owner met us after we arrive and explained all the functions of the house as well as giving us some leads as where to go in the Island. We have a very good and quite time during our 5 days visit including the volcanoes walk early in the morning when the active lava still flowing to the sea, it was gorgeous to see it. The nearby beaches and hiking are awesome if you like walking. Took lots of pictures and drink coconut juice from fresh coconut too. If we come to stay in Hawi area again, we definitely try it one more time.
My husband, my five-year-old son and I stayed here for a week in February and found it to be a nice little place in Hawi. It's tucked back behind the owner's house but feels private due to the vegetation and pastures surrounding it. It's just a half mile from town and the great Saturday farmers market, and 30 minutes or so from the white sand beaches. The house is fairly comfortable but the kitchen is very small, so a little bit challenging to cook in. However the appliances are very nice and the kitchen has everything you need. The hot tub on the porch is nice for warming up after the beach and there are lemon trees in the yard for drinks or cooking. There are a table and chairs out front too, though it was too windy to eat out there. John and Janet were wonderful hosts!
Loved the hills behind with cows and horses lounging. Very serene environment. House was well appointed, everything you need to be independent. Quite and restful. Jan and Jon great hosts.
This was our first trip to the Big Island and we were not disappointed. Our rental home situated in the little town of Hawi was what we had hoped for. At the tip of the northwest coast, Hawi is often rainy at this time of the year (at least this year) but the views from our windows were spectacular (not to mention the rainbows). We woke to pasture with cows and horses grazing, and with glimpse of the ocean. It was rather stunning. The house itself was cozy, clean and well appointed. We even had beach chairs, cooler, and umbrella waiting for us, which we took with us to sunny areas of beautiful beach along the coast. We enjoyed the calm and quiet. That said we ate in Hawi at one of the best sushi restaurants we have encountered, with fun decor and good energy. Our VRBO hosts were gracious and intested in our welfare. This is a lovely spot for those not wanting the tourism of Honolulu or other well known spots.
We stayed here for four days. The place is sweet, clean and quiet. Hot tub is lovely. Views of the ocean. Our hosts were nearby but gave us the space we needed! Hawi is a darling town perched on the north coast. About 40 minutes to good beaches and waipoa valley. Bomb sushi in town. A real old Hawaii feel!
Hawi Town is located on the north shore of the Big Island of Hawaii. This is the most historical place in Hawaii facing the island of Maui with moderate weather and soothing trade winds. Hawi Town has great restaurants and boutique shops which showcase local artists creations. Scenic sites close by include famous Pololu valley with spectacular views of the Big Island's north coast and black sands beach, with great hiking trails.. King Kamehameha the Great's birth place and the Mo'okini Heiau oldest Hawaiian temple along the coastline with gorgeous hikes and views of Maui Haleakala volcano. Go for an amazing snorkel at Mahukona and explore the coral reef 10 minutes away, snorkel or scuba dive with turtles in Puako , swim with wild spinner dolphins in Ho'okena, watch the whales crossing the Maui channel just a few miles away (between December and April), go for the boogie boarding of a life time at Hawaii's most beautiful Hapuna Beach nearby or leisure on the beach like a Rockefeller for free at the most magnificent 5 stars Mauna Kea beach hotel 20 minutes away. And if this not enough, hike to the magnificent 1600 feet high Hi'ilawe falls in Waipio valley of the kings. Aloha Nui.
