an excellent and unusual holiday venue
we totally enjoyed our stay in the tower right in the centre of Falmouth. a great place to come back to easily for a rest then to head back out later on. everything in Falmouth is in easy walking distance so we never used our car during the stay.
the observatory deck at the top gives out amazing panoramic views of Falmouth, the harbour, the estuary and the sea - for sunrises, sunsets, ships entering and leaving port, and the whole weather.
the observatory deck was what drew me to booking the venue. the only disappointment was trying to keep the windows open to cool down as any breeze that high up would close them.
loved the high ceilings in the lounge and kitchen and the amount of light in those rooms too.
the bed was very comfortable and there was always hot water for baths or showers.
the stairs - well we were warned about them on the website - but seriously, not a problem, and the views from the top are definitely worth the climb!
The Historic Observatory Tower is a brilliant place to stay very close to the buzzing main street of Falmouth. There's only one set back you need to be fit as there are many stairs to climb inside the tower and also steep slopes from the town. But Falmouth is a great base to explore Cornwall. Will book again.
The Observatory Tower
It was our second visit to the Obsevatory Tower. It's a lovely place fo stay in Falmouth, the observation deck is fabulous. It's a real unique experience.
My only criticisms are, the ground floor bathroom had cobwebs on the ceiling by the window and one of the mirror bulbs was not working, it was not working when we were there last November, also the general cleaning could be a little better, especially as it's high end accomodation
Beautiful Views & Wonderful Unique Experience!
We had a fantastic time staying here, we really wished we could have stayed for much longer. We will certainly be back sometime this year. The views are wonderful and we spent most of our time feeling we needed to return to the tower to make the most of it rather than exploring what Falmouth has to offer! It's definitely the most unique place I have ever stayed and would highly recommend it to all!
New Year’s Eve
We stayed at the tower for New Years Eve. The tower is amazing. The views are spectacular. The tower has everything you need to make your stay comfortable.
Lots of stairs!!
A brilliant place to stay
We had a lovely time. Loved the Observatory. Have booked to go again . The only issue was no one site parking
Falmouth, the sailing capital of Cornwall, is renowned for being the third deepest natural port in the world, a haven for both cruisers and racers offering the sailor the last major port before the 12 hour crossing to the Isles of Scilly. Visitors to the Port will find the town teeming with coastal treasures, ranging from fish restaurants and boat trips to The National Maritime Museum, Cornwall next to Port Pendennis. Pendennis Castle built in the 16th Century sits high above the harbour with truly magical panoramic views across the bay. You can ride one of the Fal River Link Ferries to the beautiful St Mawes and visit Henry VIII's sister castle or take a delightful trip around the estuary stopping off at either Trelissick Gardens or Smugglers Cottage for a cream tea.
Falmouth Regatta Week, in August is the town's major event both on and off the water, fireworks and the recent addition of the Red Arrows provides a spectacular back drop for some high class racing. Later in the year the Oyster Festival shows off the rivers heritage to the full. Pendennis Shipyard host luxury yachts for re-fit and and in June 2012 Falmouth will host the J Class Regatta, the most spectacular event since the Tall Ships Race last visited in 2008. There are plenty of places to eat & drink in Falmouth and recently Rick Stein brought his Fish & Chip Restaurant & Oyster Bar to Discovery Quay adding to the superb mix across the town.
