We think this home is in the perfect spot! It's a great location, midway between Mariposa and Oakhurst. Both Mariposa and Oakhurst are great areas for travelers, but with differing amenities and feel. Mariposa, 13 miles away, is picturesque and smaller. It's the closest town to the west entrance of Yosemite Park and the famous Yosemite Valley. (The west entrance is 41 miles from this rental home.) Oakhurst, 19 miles away, is the closest town to the south entrance of Yosemite (The south entrance is 35 miles from this rental home). Just inside the south entrance is the Mariposa Grove of giant sequoias and the Wawona area with it's huge historic Wawona Hotel/restaurant, natural swimming areas, pleasant hikes and Pioneer Yosemite History Center. Weekly BBQ (all-you-can-eat) picnics are served on the lawn of the Wawona Hotel on Saturday evenings all summer. Oakhurst has additional amenities like a multiplex movie theater and a multitude of shopping venues, grocery stores and dining choices. It is also near the Sugar Pine Railroad (a historic full-size steam locomotive providing narrated family-oriented excursions through the mountain slopes). On the way home from the south entrance, visit picturesque Bass Lake (23 miles from this rental home), with its many sandy beaches, hiking opportunities, boat rentals and restaurants. Bass Lake water is a perfect temperature for swimming in the summer.

About Magdalena and Bruce Beall (Yellowstone/Yosemite Vacation Rental Homes, LLC)
The owners of this beautiful property had it built it for their own family gatherings and still use it that way. Now, beginning July 2015, they're making it available as a vacation rental to other conscientious families who will take good care of it. The owners have hunted for big game in Africa, donating the meat to local villagers. There are several beautiful mounts of these wondrously exotic animals hanging in the great room and in the master bedroom.

We are a group of 3 couples. The place was perfect, and exactly as described! Excellent directions and instructions on what and where everything is to be done around the house. There was wildlife including deer and it snowed the last day that made it even more scenic! We would highly recommend this place!!!!
Such a great home! My family and I stayed here over the Thanksgiving break and had a beautiful holiday. The attention detail was superior and impressive. A truly memorable stay.
Everything was perfect. The house: cozy/homey feel, stocked beautiful kitchen, enough seating inside and outside for everyone, comfortable beds, secluded, TWO SETS of W/D, large wooded lot to provide for lots of adventures. Distance to the park was ideal: far enough away to escape the hustle and bustle, close enough where I didn't feel like I was taking a second road trip. The management: attentive, responsive, respectful, flexible. We will be back!
The cabin over exceeded our expectations and was the perfect place to bring the family together.
"Thank you very much from all of us. The cabin was very beautiful and has helped provide many wonderful memories. The summer of 2017 will be remembered as the summer the family enjoyed Yosemite, Bass Lake and the cabin."
Just hope that there's no power outage!
We were a group of 13 for our yearly family reunion. It was such a great house with all the amenities you need. Plenty of towels, blankets, linens, places to sleep, games, and so on. The fold out couch downstairs uses air and it deflated at night. So bring your own air mattress. They had plenty of fold out mattress pads that people said were comfortable. The stairs going down are a bit slippery since there's a spiral spot down and people had slipped.
We really enjoyed our time here but the one problem was that there was a fire near by (between this house and Mariposa) that took out the power and from 3pm to 8pm, we had no AC, no way to call out since landlines were down and no cell reception (we had att, sprint and verizon) so we had to send out a person around 5 and again at a little before 8pm) There was no running water, so no one could go to the restrooms or wash hands, etc. so for the 5 hours, it was pretty uncomfortable. I understand though that it's not something the property can control but it seems the power outage is common - even with the solar power.
Despite that, it was unanimous that we'd definitely come back to this property again!
Thank you for your overall positive review. I'd like to respond to some issues that were raised: First of all, I'm sorry that you never informed me, during your stay, of an air leak problem with the inflatable mattress on the downstairs sleeper couch, which never presented a problem in the past. I would have been happy to come over at your convenience to find the leak and fix it. I did see your note about it after your stay. The mattress is fixed now and holding air again. Thank you for pointing out that the landline phones at this home all plug into power and therefore do not work during a power outage. I will remedy that right away, by adding a phone that doesn't require power to make calls. Actually power outages are not common in the area, especially for an extended period. The fire you refer to was about 8 miles from this home. I don't know if the power outage was related. I'm sorry that you were inconvenienced by that. (By the way, the ground-mounted solar array is "passive solar". It is tied into the power grid and does not charge on-site batteries, so it doesn't help in a power outage.) You described the interior stairs as having a "spiral spot" where someone fell. You must be referring to the fact that there is a landing halfway down where the stairs take a 90 degree turn. Prospective renters can be assured that this is simply a normal fully-carpeted set of stairs, of normal width, with walls on both sides and railings. It is not unusually slippery or dangerous. If someone were to fall while using it I would caution them to simply slow down and pay more attention when using it.
Very nice home. We all had a great time
Sierra Luxury Log Home is mid-way between the towns of Mariposa and Oakhurst, conveniently located for driving either to the south entrance (35 miles) or the west entrance (41 miles) of Yosemite National Park. You'll want to use both entrances. The Yosemite Valley and many of the main attractions of the park, including Half Dome, El Capitan and Tuolumne Meadow, are most easily accessed through the west entrance. At the south entrance is the amazing Mariposa Grove with its hundreds of giant sequoia trees and miles of hiking trails among them. Enjoy a gourmet meal at the nearby historic and charming Wawona Hotel or its Saturday night BBQ on the lawn each summer Saturday night. There is an easy and shady 3.2 mile loop hike just across the street, around the Wawona Golf Course and a flowering meadow, and incredible natural swimming/wading spots in the nearby river. Bass Lake (23 miles from the home) is a worthwhile side trip on your way home from the south entrance or a wonderful all-day destination. Dine at Ducey's overlooking the lake after a comfortable swim from one of the lake's many sandy beaches. Boats of all kinds can be rented by the hour or the day.
There are dozens of amazing things to see and do in this beautiful area of the Sierra Nevada mountains and foothills, from zip lines to rides on a historic steam railroad, interesting museums, musical events, and hiking and biking trails galore. We detail dozens of interesting things to see and do on our own website and are happy to answer your questions to help you plan your trip.
Please note: The Mariposa Grove is now closed for renovations until June 2018. Giant sequoia trees can be seen at the Tuolumne Grove in Yosemite until the Mariposa Grove reopens.
