Sierra Luxury Log Home is a spacious and upscale two-story home, built in 2007 on a quiet 5.5 acre gated property in the Sierra foothills. From this home between Mariposa and Oakhurst there is convenient access to both the west and south entrances of Yosemite Park. Enjoy 3000 sq. ft. of living space, including three bedrooms and four full bathrooms. Each bedroom has its own adjoining bathroom. This home sleeps 11 comfortably, with one king and two queen size beds, two queen size sleeper couches and an additional day bed that is part of the seating area in the great room. (Comfortable folding mattresses are available for larger groups.) Hi-speed WIFI is provided, so bring your devices!

The view from the elevated wraparound deck includes Indian Peak, the Sierra foothills and beautiful forested surroundings. The deck has plenty of seating and 2 outdoor dining tables. Renters are welcome to walk this large groomed property that is bordered by the East Fork of the Chowchilla River (a seasonal creek). You can also hike or bicycle for miles on the very quiet country road that adjoins the property. This home is at 2800 ft. in elevation. Our well-maintained outdoor hot tub seats 4 adults comfortably.

There are beautiful granite counter tops in the kitchen and all of the bathrooms. All tubs and showers have tiled surrounds. The spacious fully-equipped kitchen has stainless steel appliances, and includes everything you'll need for preparing and serving your meals. Comfort is assured with forced air heating and air conditioning throughout. Two instant on-demand water heaters insure that you'll never run out of hot water, even when using the hot tub. The dining table seats up to 10. Four more can be seated at the breakfast bar. The spacious great room has a high vaulted ceiling, plenty of comfortable seating, and over-sized windows. There is a gas fireplace and a large flat screen TV for viewing satellite TV or DVDs from our large collection. The owners have hunted big game on safaris to Africa (donating the meat to charity) and several exotic mounts adorn the room.

The large master bedroom suite and a second bedroom suite are upstairs. The third bedroom suite is downstairs, where you'll also find a comfortable den with a large TV and a game area that includes board games, puzzles, toys and an electric air hockey table for some family fun. The 4th bathroom is accessible from the den. There are 4 TVs in the home, located in the great room, den, master bedroom and downstairs bedroom.

Location:

We think this home is in the perfect spot! It's a great location, midway between Mariposa and Oakhurst. Both Mariposa and Oakhurst are great areas for travelers, but with differing amenities and feel. Mariposa, 13 miles away, is picturesque and smaller. It's the closest town to the west entrance of Yosemite Park and the famous Yosemite Valley. (The west entrance is 41 miles from this rental home.) Oakhurst, 19 miles away, is the closest town to the south entrance of Yosemite (The south entrance is 35 miles from this rental home). Just inside the south entrance is the Mariposa Grove of giant sequoias and the Wawona area with it's huge historic Wawona Hotel/restaurant, natural swimming areas, pleasant hikes and Pioneer Yosemite History Center. Weekly BBQ (all-you-can-eat) picnics are served on the lawn of the Wawona Hotel on Saturday evenings all summer. Oakhurst has additional amenities like a multiplex movie theater and a multitude of shopping venues, grocery stores and dining choices. It is also near the Sugar Pine Railroad (a historic full-size steam locomotive providing narrated family-oriented excursions through the mountain slopes). On the way home from the south entrance, visit picturesque Bass Lake (23 miles from this rental home), with its many sandy beaches, hiking opportunities, boat rentals and restaurants. Bass Lake water is a perfect temperature for swimming in the summer.

About Magdalena and Bruce Beall (Yellowstone/Yosemite Vacation Rental Homes, LLC

The owners of this beautiful property had it built it for their own family gatherings and still use it that way. Now, beginning July 2015, they're making it available as a vacation rental to other conscientious families who will take good care of it. The owners have hunted for big game in Africa, donating the meat to local villagers. There are several beautiful mounts of these wondrously exotic animals hanging in the great room and in the master bedroom.

Beautiful house, very peaceful

  • 4 of 5

The house was clean and well taken care of, it had everything we needed. It was a little hard to get to down a windy road, but once we were there, it was great.

Wonderful and Peaceful

  • 5 of 5

Due to multiple family loses over the last year and the ensuing work dealing with estates, me and my wife REALLY needed a vacation to just relax and unwind. I'm so glad I booked this property as it was exactly what we needed. It was spotless upon arrival and clear instructions were provided at booking on how to get there and get into the property and there was also a binder with instructions about everything at the property once we got there. It's about 16 miles outside of downtown Mariposa and because of the gravel/dirt road and driveway you need to drive on, don't bring your Porsche or anything like that unless you don't mind running it on that kind of surface. Just thought I'd mention that as I almost brought my ZL1 up but instead brought my Colorado which was the right choice.

We spent most of our time lounging around watching a bit of TV or we were on the back balcony watching the squirrels, the turkey family and the occasional deer doing their thing while listening to the wonderful wind chime. We BBQ'd a couple of times but found ourselves at Happy Burger Diner as well as Salvador's. Both are pretty good and worth checking out. However, the home is very well equipped if you just want to bring your own food and not go into town. It's a fairly short drive to Yosemite which we did one day. Keep in mind that getting there is part of the experience so just enjoy the scenery along the way and don't worry about when you're getting there. Be sure to spend some time in Mariposa as it's a wonderful town. The people there are friendly and welcoming. It reminds me of when I lived in Mammoth many years ago. The nice people that wave at you as you drive by even though they don't know you.

Your cell phone will probably not work here which was actually very nice. The internet was not working no matter what we tried but again, no big deal as we were there to relax. I did contact The Beall's when we got home about the internet and received a prompt reply that they would look into it. My guess it's the router which is about 13 years old but again...this property just begs you to go low/no tech and just relax. Try it...it's nice.

Overall, this is a great property for a couple to just relax or for a group of people as there is plenty of space. The Beall's were wonderful to deal with and we look forward to going back again. Thank you very much Magdalena and Bruce! We came back very relaxed and refreshed.

This property has almost everything that you need such as entertainment equipment and cooking equipment.

Good signs and directions.

The only down point for us was the 10:00AM early check out.

Owner's Response: We are really glad you enjoyed your stay and we appreciate your kind words. I just would like to add that we did change the check out time for these guests to 10:30 am and they were ready to leave at that time, which we very much appreciated. We are considering changing the check out time to 10:30 am. Magdalena Beall, manager

Very well stocked home in quiet location - great for kids

  • 5 of 5

Thank you so much for opening your home for us. The house is beautiful and fully furnished. We enjoyed the quiet atmosphere and the wildlife. The home was fully stocked up. Every washroom, kitchen, laundry room - you name the item and you could find it. We had kids and they enjoyed the air hockey table, books and board games. The internet was not working for a little bit and we called Bruce and he got us back in time and it was taken care of. Many, many thanks.

Location:

Sierra Luxury Log Home is mid-way between the towns of Mariposa and Oakhurst, conveniently located for driving either to the south entrance (35 miles) or the west entrance (41 miles) of Yosemite National Park. You'll want to use both entrances. The Yosemite Valley and many of the main attractions of the park, including Half Dome, El Capitan and Tuolumne Meadow, are most easily accessed through the west entrance. At the south entrance is the amazing Mariposa Grove with its hundreds of giant sequoia trees and miles of hiking trails among them. Enjoy a gourmet meal at the nearby historic and charming Wawona Hotel or its Saturday night BBQ on the lawn each summer Saturday night. There is an easy and shady 3.2 mile loop hike just across the street, around the Wawona Golf Course and a flowering meadow, and incredible natural swimming/wading spots in the nearby river. Bass Lake (23 miles from the home) is a worthwhile side trip on your way home from the south entrance or a wonderful all-day destination. Dine at Ducey's overlooking the lake after a comfortable swim from one of the lake's many sandy beaches. Boats of all kinds can be rented by the hour or the day.

There are dozens of amazing things to see and do in this beautiful area of the Sierra Nevada mountains and foothills, from zip lines to rides on a historic steam railroad, interesting museums, musical events, and hiking and biking trails galore. We detail dozens of interesting things to see and do on our own website and are happy to answer your questions to help you plan your trip.

Please note: The Mariposa Grove is now closed for renovations until 2017. Giant sequoia trees can be seen at the Tuolumne Grove in Yosemite until the Mariposa Grove reopens.
