About Brad + Brenda McCall

We grew up together in northern Virginia and always enjoyed the Appalachian Mountains. We often sidetracked down the Skyline Drive while attending Virginia Tech. We moved to Weatherford, Texas in 1986 and have been here since, raising our four wonderful children. We've been married for 37+ years, kids are grown, self sufficient, and producing lovely grandchildren. It was time for us to acquire our dream vacation home to generate mountain memories as we had in Virginia.

Brad + Brenda McCall purchased this cabin in 2014

Why Brad + Brenda McCall chose Pagosa Springs

The Coveted Upper Blanco Basin! When you turn off of highway 84 east onto state road 326 it quickly becomes apparent why this location is special. The abundant wildlife is easily seen in this picturesque valley split by the gurgling waters of the Rio Blanco and surrounded by stunning views of the Continental Divide. The peace, quiet, and tranquility of the area seeps into your soul within the first mile. You won't hear anything more intrusive than the rustle of the aspen leaves, bellowing of a bull elk, chattering of the squirrels or melodies of the the abundant song birds.

What makes this cabin unique

Wonderful views of the Continental Divide from the kitchen and front living area. The cabin is a RETREAT. Nestled in a quiet beautiful area inhabited by wildlife and friendly, caring neighbors.

Excellently maintained and upgraded home. Relax in comfort AND style!

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had such a wonderful time and enjoyed everything about our vacation...We're still talking about it. We're definitely looking forward to returning! 😃

We filled our days with hiking, horseback riding, riding our son's new 4 wheeler, shopping, fishing, and relaxing! We loved showing our children the dark night sky lit up with bright stars that you don't get to see in the city.

We absolutely love seeing all of the wildlife... tons of mule deer, (which my husband appreciated seeing as an avid hunter) birds, chipmunks, Elk, and I even had a gorgeous hummingbird fly right in front of my glass of wine on the deck and captured the shot in my picture!

We laughed a lot in the game room with a few competitive games of air hockey! My husband and youngest daughter worked quite a bit together on the Lab puzzle.

Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful cabin with our family. It was just perfect!! Also, many Thanks for your helpful tips and ideas to enjoy.

Thank you,

Everyone must take time to sit & watch the leaves

Lazy Bear Resort with its amazing views at a peaceful and quiet property was the perfect choice for our trip. Our family enjoyed this cabin that rests on top of a ridge overlooking the San Juan Mountains with a view that is nothing but spectacular! Its convenient location to beautiful Pagosa Springs, Wolf Creek ski area, Upper Blanco Basin, Durango and San Juan Mountains give you many options to explore. Feeling secluded yet close enough close enough to town, but far enough away that civilization seems to vanish from everyday life.

The views were outstanding in October when the aspens in peak color. The kitchen is roomy enough for several cooks and equipped with everything we needed to prepare meals. Upstairs living area is inviting with gorgeous views from the wall of windows. Bedrooms were comfortable with a special bunk room for added charm (or quiet hide away). Having the lower garage and lower game room provides more space.

We saw so much wildlife taking long ride, even seeing bear “evidence” just down the road on walks despite our many attempts to see a bear. We took the scenic Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad-recommend the bus ride up/ train back! We had a great breakfast at The Rose and a Ranger Station visit in Pagosa Springs is a must. Our time exploring the area or just enjoying the sights and sounds from the front deck made for relaxing went too quickly! Our week visit will be remembered with many memories and pictures to share. We definitely will back. Thank you Brad and Brenda for providing us provided a true getaway sharing with us the beauty of your home and Upper Blanco Basin

Where do we begin? The drive to the house was wonderful. The house itself was so much more than we expected. The decorating was cheerful, fun, and gave the feel of being at your own house. The birds coming to feed on peanuts each morning was such fun and relaxing. The long walks through the woods and around the "community" was great. Loved this place and WILL be coming back for more memories!! Brenda and Brad have a true jewel......and make you feel like part of their family from beginning to end!!!

Owner's Response: Thank you for the kind words. The Upper Blanco Basin is always a wonderful place to slow down and relax. During the Fall with the turning of the aspens to gold as a back drop and cooler temps, walks through the woods refresh the body, mind, and soul. We look forward to having you back!

Great home!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay during spring break was fantastic. With 5 kids, there was plenty of room and things for the kids to do after a day on the slopes. The home had everything we needed for a great stay in Pagosa Springs. Wolf Creek skiing is an easy drive and we'd recommend visiting during ski season and/or for a summer getaway. The McCalls were great and easy to work with in planning our vacation.
