Within a quiet and enclosed community, you arrive at this large colonial house, with impressive carved stone facades and ironwork, a huge outside green area with grass, cactus, avocado, lemon, and pepper trees. Go back along the shaded walk to a very private entrance, where you enter the house with a unique and interesting floor plan; including a sunny formal living room, an impressive foyer, a large formal dining room with seating for eight persons, a spacious and beautiful kitchen with its own large table for informal dining, an arboretum with banana trees, ficus, bougainvillea, a 100 year-old pool table, plus a very comfortable adjoining den.
Walk up the impressive stone 'flying stairway' past a 20 foot cathedral window looking into a patio with a flower lined fountain and a beautiful tile-lined spa (easily holding eight persons) with old columns supporting the tile roof. At the top of the stairs admire the cupola and suspended chandelier, walk into the enormous master bedroom and adjoining dressing room and bath. The boveda covering part of the master bedroom is a unique design which lowers the ceiling, giving the feeling of a canopy over the bed. Also at the head of the stairs, you may enter the guest wing of the house, which has a sunny and extremely spacious bedroom, with a similar canopy boveda ceiling, fireplace with gas logs, and comfortable chairs for reading. The guest bath has a shower and is divided into 3 separate sections for the shower, washbasin, and commode. If there are more than 4 people in your party, there is a studio apartment with a queen size bed, TV/DVD, fridge, microwave and nice separate bath available at extra cost. No Children or Pets, please.
The entire house is a feast for the senses, with windows, light, and unending details... such as the lima-bean shaped tile bathtub in the master bedroom, the hand painted relief on the large arch spanning the kitchen, beautiful woodwork, stonework, arches, terraces, fountains, fireplaces, beamed ceilings, etc. The home has two Wurlitzer Juke boxes from the 30's and 40's (enjoy the lights but please do not play) a piano, an antique Brunswick solid oak pool table from the 20's, (please DO play!), Wet Bar, large outdoor grille, and patio furniture for outside dining. There is lots of comfortable furniture for just relaxing both indoors and out.
The staff includes a very capable and sweet cook, an upstairs maid who washes and irons linens and personal laundry, (personal laundry can also be left at the full service laundromat one block from the house) gardener, and a gatekeeper. Your locaton is perfect to take advantage of all the activities in this interesting city. Cozy studio apartment also available on the premises for additional guests in your party. Secure parking is available.
The location and home cannot be beat - a close, flat walk to everything important, as well as a welcome retreat to truly relax. The inclusion of a wonderful cook and maid, and your personal attention to our care, made this carefree holiday a real vacation. Your personally chauffeured / guided tours of the colonial towns around this area enhanced our appreciation of Mexican culture and history. Can't wait to return for our fourth annual visit. All the other reviews are correct. This is a perfect place to stay for your adventures in San Miguel. The house is charming and such an easy walk to restaurants and shops. The cook is excellent and the host is nearby to offer assistance if needed. We had a great time and highly recommend this rental.
Wonderful introduction to San Miguel de Allende and surrounding area. Host "Jack" picked us up at the airport in this strange land. From the beginning Jack shared information on flora, culture, as well as personal stories of his life in San Miguel. He is a US citizen, now living in Mx for approx 40 year!
Upon arrival to "Jack's Casa," we were treated like royalty. The house is authentic old San Miguel....I wanted to just sit, relax and take it all in! He had prepared his house Margaritas and the cook had prepared guacamole for our arrival. The table was set and our menu choice prepared for dinner. How wonderful not to have to go out for dinner but settle in to the relaxed SM lifestyle.
The weather was Cool, damp....our only disappointment. The fireplace was our favorite gathering place. We will have to come again in order to enjoy the beautiful patios.
We loved San Miguel, Jack's house and hospitality. Jack gave us day trip tours upon our request and took us back to the airport for departure. What a guy! What a beautiful area of Mexico!
P.S. Be prepared for cobblestone streets (good walking shoes!), a different culture and Jack's beloved VW van! Enjoy!!
A wonderful break for my wife and I as we escaped the heat and hectic lifestyle of Cabo San Lucas. A great place to unwind and and catch your breath from the everyday stress that life throws at you. The house that the owner so graciously shares will provide the break you are looking for. Very very spacious and extremely comfortable with beautiful views from each and every window that you look from. We were greeted upon our arrival with homemade guacamole and chips and the owners famous margaritas. The location was more than we expected as it is so close to downtown that it was a very easy walk and if walking is a problem there are inexpensive taxis readily available. Outstanding shops and restaurants throughout downtown. If you are wanting to taste the cuisine of San Miguel there is a extensive menu you can choose from that Delores the staff cook will prepare for you. The home is very well maintained as the gardener and maid are there daily. Our host lives on site so is available to answer any questions you might have. He has lived in the area many years and is very knowledgeable in the history and sites that are worth seeking out. Would definitely recommend this host, staff, and home to be part of your vacation experience if you choose San Miguel de Allende as your destination.
My two college friends and I just returned from a wonderful vacation to San Miguel de Allende. Our stay at this lovely residence was everything we hoped for and being there made our trip that much more special.
The home was very comfortable and spacious with lots of authentic Mexican touches. We also had great outdoor spaces where we could visit and enjoy the perfect frozen margaritas prepared by our gracious host. The location was ideal...an easy walk to shops, restaurants and sights in the historic center of town and we were close to a taxi stand for longer trips.
We were well cared for by the staff. Our cook, Delores, was fabulous. We had an extensive menu to chose from and everything she prepared for us was so fresh and delicious! The maid and gardener kept our rooms sparkling and and the many plants on the property in perfect condition.
Our host and owner of the residence lives on the property, so he was close by to provide help, answer questions, make recommendations and replenish our margarita pitcher. He was a delight to meet and told us many interesting facts about the area.
San Miguel de Allende is a beautiful place to visit and this was the perfect place for our stay. We all agreed that we want to return to this city and this home sometime in the future.
I've stayed at B&Bs which were lovely, but this first experience with VRBO was entirely different. Our host was warm and welcoming from the start, enhanced by a hefty pitcher of frozen margaritas and a row of limed-and-salted glasses. The guacamole is not to be missed. What a great introduction to San Miguel!
The cook will provide dinner if you'd prefer to eat in, and while I was hesitant about what this fabulous and plentiful food would cost, we were pleasantly surprised to find it much more affordable than going out. Go for it; you won't be disappointed with anything on the extensive menu. The rest of the staff, a housekeeper and gardener, keep the place clean and comfortable (including your laundry if you need it done).
The house is an easy walk to the Jardin, Parroquia, and shopping, and even easier to the end of the street to hail a cab if you'd rather ride. There was more to see and do in San Miguel and vicinity than could possibly be done the week we were there. Another trip is mandatory and I know just where we'll stay. You will love it too.
