We are located along the northern edge of Colorado’s El Paso County, between Denver and Colorado Springs, only 15 minutes from the Air Force Academy in a community called Bent Tree. We’re at an elevation of 7500 feet, perched atop the Palmer Divide—one of the highest points on the Great Plains. The area boasts of spectacular views of the Rocky Mountains emerging from the Plains just to the west. And to the southwest, Pikes Peak dominates the horizon. Denver and Colorado Springs are both short drives from Bent Tree, making this an ideal rural setting with easy access to metropolitan amenities. The local town of Monument, just ten minutes away to the west, serves as a very convenient base for local shopping, dining and recreational opportunities. Bent Tree and the surrounding communities offer guests enjoyable recreational hiking, walking, and biking paths with spectacular views of the Rocky Mountains and Pikes Peak.
My husband and I both attended the Air Force Academy and have made this area our home since 1991. We raised our four children here and still make this our primary home. We mostly rent to families attending events at the Air Force Academy and to be able to finance our travel habit!
Sharon Gann purchased this house in 2005
Peace and privacy, yet close to town with convenient highway access to both Colorado Springs and Denver.
Large rooms to accommodate families with plenty of space to find a quiet space to read or nap. The amazing two story entry and living room make this property ideal for entertaining, but the outdoor living space is what really sold us on this property!
This was a beautiful home on a very private, secluded lot. The house was extremely spacious and there was plenty of room for eight adults. One of my favorite evenings was sitting down to dinner in the dining room and everyone was able to sit together. The kitchen had everything we needed for preparing our meals. The owners provided excellent customer service and answered all of my questions in a timely manner. I would definitely recommend this property to family and friends and hope we can rent the house in the future! Thanks so much Sharon & Brad.
We rented this property for USAFA Grad. week and it was perfect for us. Beautiful large house and beautiful location. The location felt like you were getting away from everything in the mountains but was actually only a short drive from shopping or the Academy. There is a park close by with great hiking trails. The house was ideal for entertaining with a nice deck area. It has bedrooms on all three floors so it was easy to accommodate different schedules. The house was exactly as listed and Sharon was extremely accommodating. We would highly recommend this property and would rent it again.
This property is definitely "as advertised." It is very clean, well taken-care of, spacious and comfortable. We were able to relax, eat, sleep and just "hang out" as we do at our own home. Our adult daughter, her husband and three young children were able to all sleep in the basement rooms, which was very nice for them. The young grandchildren especially enjoyed being able to go outside on the patio out back and also loved watching the little waterfall outside the kitchen area. One of our daughters, aged 20, is in a manual wheelchair, and the first-floor bedroom and bathroom worked out great for her. There are just a couple of steps up to the front door, which we were able to help her with. We were at the house for a few VERY hot days in August. The house stayed fairly cool, considering. Probably the only downside for us was the lack of "unbreakable" dishes in the kitchen for the young children. We ended up just buying some disposable dishes for them, which was fine :) The owners were very pleasant to work with and very good about responding to questions. I highly recommend this property to stay in, particularly if you're touring/visiting in the northern area of Colorado Springs.
My family (about 25-30 of us) stayed in this home and another large VRBO home about 1.5 miles away (#575063) for a recent family reunion. It worked out great. We had 9 adults and 3 teenagers/kids and we all fit comfortably. The owners were extremely pleasant, responsive, and accommodating both during the reservation process and during our stay. The house is beautiful, very clean, and had everything we needed, including a very well-equipped kitchen. We also had use of two bicycles at the house which we took to the nearby Fox Run Park which had great beginner mountain biking trails. Also a great place for hiking/trail running. The outdoor gazebo was a great place to hang out and relax. The house is secluded, but still convenient to all of the tourist attractions in the area. I would definitely rent it again.
We enjoyed our stay at this house. It was very much as advertised on VRBO. We had a party of 12 consisting of three related families with eight children ages 5-16. We were all comfortably accommodated. The house was very clean and well-appointed throughout. We drove to Garden of the Gods (33m), Pikes Peak Cog Railway (45m), the Air Force Academy (15m), and the Mollie Kathleen Gold Mine (1:25 hrs), among other places. Much of this local travel was extremely scenic. The house does not have central AC. One of the upstairs bedrooms got a bit warm by day's end but otherwise the interior temp was fine. I would recommend this house for those who need a spacious place to accommodate a large party like ours.
One of the most notable points of interest in the area is Pikes Peak. Colorado has 54 peaks that are over 14,000 feet in elevation. There are two peaks with paved roads which can be driven all the way to the top: Pikes Peak and Mount Evans. Pikes Peak was deemed “America’s Mountain” when Katharine Lee Bates wrote the words that became America the Beautiful after visiting the top of the mountain. The drive to the entrance gate of Pikes Peak Park is approximately 35 min. away. You can also take the Cog Railway to the top of Pikes Peak, beginning in Manitou Springs.
