The Roundhouse that has been featured in TV & print essays is a beautiful and unique structure designed for groups who want to find their creativity and/vision together. As she is my home and workplace, I like to make sure that groups who apply to come here, will fit her spirit and respect my home. So, do tell me about yourselves and your intent for being here. In the meantime, I have 30 beds, (1/2 are doubles) though three of these beds are pull out couches, a well-stocked kitchen, libraries, dance floors, instruments, costumes are yours to enjoy. Looking over two river banks, on a country rd but only fifteen minutes from movie theaters, shops, - 1/2 hr from 5 college region.

I actually dreamt the design of the RH & was GC in the building of her. The story of her coming into being is filled with serendipity. A storyteller, and single mother, we were in a low money situation, but my stories were transformative for one soul who was in the audience Once Upon a Time and he became a bit of a groupie at my tellings that included a lot of elder housing establishments and day care centers. Noticing how I schlepped my paraphenalia from venue to venue, one day over coffee, he embarrassingly revealed that he had a lot of money and wanted to help me have a center from which to do my work.
The story becomes more magical as it transfigured from the offer to its final manifestation. I am happy to share it with you more fully when you come to visit this magical place.
So it is my home, my workshop, too where we have retreats of artists, performances and happenings with up to 200 guests (for an event). And all of the tools for doing that work are here too....The house therefore is imbued with my loves, aesthetic and personality. And, I do welcome those who would respect her...it is like sharing my baby...I expect all to enjoy and to respect her, leaving the Roundhouse in the footprint she was in when you all will have arrived and that includes remaking the beds with fresh sheets that I will have laid out for you and, ideally, sharing some of your story of your time here in the journal that I have by every one of the 30 beds.
I greet visitors, sharing more of the story of the Roundhouse if you wish, welcoming you all to my home and showing you how things work...the electronics, kitchen equipment, etc.
I typically stay on the property (I have ten acres) in my 'cottage' with my dogs when guests are here and am available for questions, help, whatever.
Know that the Roundhouse is my 'baby' and I do like to share her but expect her to be treated with loving respect.

The Round House has been transformative for those who have a been here. You leave with a deeper sense as to what is possible and to what fun you can have together as a group. Plus, you will be a part of an international trail of visitors who have been here experiencing her uniqueness and wonder.
Although designed for artists, the House is a wonderful place for families and friends on reunions, retreats and having special celebrations. We all are imaginative, creative beings and the ROUNDHOUSE tantalizes you to express that part of yourself. But, know, that she is not intimidating. She is playful and perhaps one might say, a bit funky, and brings out that spirit in others.
There are 30 beds here..some Dutch beds with lovely lace curtains and special storage places and electric lights to read by in each, as well as 'regular' bedrooms, a kitchen that is made for cooks - transformative dining areas that seat 40 people although I have had wedding receptions inside the house of 130 people some of whom have chosen to eat with plates on their laps. All of the furniture is portable and you may move it around to set your own stage.
The Roundhouse is in a uniquely beautiful locale. She is on a hill that looks over two river valleys, the rising sun and rising moon. You can sort of make out two houses in the distance, but basically you are nestled in nature under the night sky whose revealed stars take peoples' breath away. Sky muse from any of the decks on the four floors of the house or from the windows of the cupola & its telescopes. The sounds you hear are those of the owl and coyote. You are away from the commercialization and noise of American life. However, only by ten + minutes so you can easily re-provision food in a 'foodie' area, find movie theaters, craft shops, museums, etc., in one of several nearby New England town/villages. Plus, you are only 1/2 hour away from the famed five college area of Amherst & Northampton with all of their cultural offerings.
I have discovered that the RH is a wonderful experience not only for artists who are in process of creating their work but also for friends and family who want to play and celebrate together -- as it brings out their creativity and exuberance -- allowing fun play and connectivity with one another.
The Roundhouse presents itself with a wonderful central 'dance' room, that has surrounding speakers and wonderful acoustics, as it is rounded and domed.
Plus, all the tools one might need for playing and exploring your creativity are here for your use. Those include musical instruments, (two baby grand pianos, lots of percussion, brass instruments and more!) a grand sound & projection system, with a 9x12' screen, thousands of films, 3 closets of costumes, a big trunk of hats, juggling clubs and scarves. Did I mention the library of books and games -- both board and more physical: like hoola hoops?
It has 30 beds, half of which are doubles. They include regular bed rooms as well as 'Dutch Beds' allowing more of a sense of privacy than most retreat centers.
The kitchen is fully stocked with two ovens, two double sinks, 6 burners and just about every kitchen tool a cook might want.
That she is in a country setting is also liberating as it is in an unspoiled area -- on a country road that has no through traffic and the house is down the hill from that road so you might miss that a few cars an hour have driven by. But, my neighbors are very receptive to guests. One said to me, 'Whenever I see guests from your house walking on the road, I think that they must feel ecstatic that they have just found a piece of heaven.' He has also told me that guests are welcome to visit his cows in his dairy barn and others have been pleased that guests want to walk on their woods' trails. I love the small town of Colrain, and I put out a monthly newsletter that expresses the community nature of the town that is home to many craftspeople who receive those interested in their work.
This area of new england is famed for its rivers and the falls, boating, rafting, swimming and fishing they offer. There are lovely parks and woodlands, farms that have attracted LOTs of young farmers and kept family farms alive. There is an active consciousness about healthy and organic and locally sourced foods; many farmers' markets, coops, etc. There are also very good restaurants that feature locally sourced foods and they represent global culinary traditions.
The area has attracted many artists who have studies at home and in the towns and villages nearby. There are performance venues, movie theaters and craft shops run by both individuals and cooperatives of artist and artisans. Some crafters welcome visitors to their homes.
The roundhouse is located on a quiet country road and offers beautiful scenic walks through the woods, to old one room school houses and 18th well-kept graves.
It is also but a 1/2 hour drive to Northampton and Amherst, MA, home to the five colleges including Amherst and Smith Colleges. Those towns too, have many shops and restaurants, theaters, eclectic museums (The Comic Book), and performance venues.

The Roundhouse has 30 individual beds; half are doubles. With all beds filled, it is crowded/one might say, snuggly comfortable - beloved by teens and families. Groups of less than 14 pay the same price as if there were 14. Visitors must leave the RH in the footprint she was in when you arrived, including remaking the beds with fresh sheets that I will have laid out.
The Roundhouse was born of a dream & a sequence of serendipitous events; its magical design nurtures creativity. The design is unique & beautiful; it has been featured in magazine, newspaper articles & special television programs. Not only does its architecture -- revealing continual surprises & secret hideaways, bring out your playfulness & curiosity, it is also acoustically extraordinary. Concert Hall musicians have said that it is amongst the most dynamic 'spaces', acoustically speaking, they have ever played in. Complementing the architecture, the house is filled with instruments including percussion instruments, two baby grand pianos, lots of songbooks, etc. There are costumes to dress up in, a hat trunk: and a huge dance floor (as well as a library, sun room and lounge when you want quiet time.) There are games from board games to jacks, a great sound system, that plays electronic music, a 9x12 ' movie screen & a library of several 1000 films (PLUS that many books, cd's & tapes.)
The fully supplied and equipped kitchen is beloved by cooks.
The Roundhouse is located on a hill overlooking two river valleys, the rising sun and rising moon. The house is down the hill from a dirt road and is quiet, but for the singing of the birds. There are both wild flowers, herbs, a domesticated garden. A piece of Heaven, really.
Rebekka, the owner/designer is a storyteller, writer-happy to orient you to this unique place & tell you its story.
When groups are here, she is generally living, not far from the RH, in a secluded cottage -- available to tour you about and answer questions.
