In Itself Perfect
This recently renovated apartment was perfect for two people. It was immaculately clean with very up-to-date fixtures. Rita, the owner, is a charming young architect, who did the renovations herself. The apartment is in a complex of late-nineteenth century buildings, which, we were told, originally housed working class families. The courtyard gardens are to die for. The building is in a part of the Roman outskirts that is rapidly being gentrified. With its car dealership across the street and its still gritty sidewalks and storefronts, it reminded me of Brooklyn's 4th Avenue (if that means anything to NYC travelers). A recently opened, modestly priced restaurant on the same street, 320 gradi, is terrific, serving peasant-style dishes that showcase fresh regional fare. I hesitate to give this great rental five stars for two reasons: 1. Despite the building's thick walls and high ceilings, the noise from neighboring apartments was very disconcerting, 2. It is a bit too far from the center of town. Yes, trams and buses are conveniently located, but my husband and I couldn't walk to the center and have enough stamina left over to walk much farther. We ended up taking a bus to around the colosseum and getting a taxi home after a day on our feet. Finding taxis is not all that easy, and they're expensive.
We were greeted by a sunny and friendly smiling host who showed us the ins and outs of the flat. The flat is completely renovated and it yet the architect (Rita, who was also our greeter) managed to preserve its character. While every thing has been updated the tiles are original and gorgeous. The ceiling is brick and has interesting story to it too. It was love at first sight.
The facilities were all in brand new condition and we made good use of them. The location is ideal, close to a supermarket that provides essentials and walking distance to all of the sights.
Bed was very comfortable, sheets, towels, and everything in good condition and very clean. The washing machine meant we started the next leg of our trip with carry on luggage full of clean clothes.

This was a great apartment! It had everything we needed for our trip! Very close to the metro and train, but we walked to all of the sites. Rita met us and shared lots of information. There was a market and restaurants just steps away! The gelato shop was a block or two away!
Was nice to meet you and speak with you about your holidays and Rome. Thank to have used my apartment like was yours and left clean: really perfect guests!

The Esquilino district is a center the district that was born in the mid-nineteenth century when Rome became the capital of Italy. The apartment is just a few minutes from Termini Station; the subway (Manzoni or Vittorio Emanuele) is 3 minutes, the house bus and tram stop. The Colosseum 3 metro stations, the Vatican 10 minutes by metro. If you like walking: 10 minutes Basilica of St. John, 5 minutes Santa Croce in Gerusalemme and Santa Maria Maggiore. 15 minutes Colosseum and the imperial forums. Around there are restaurants, bars, coffee supermarket, the famous multicultural market of Piazza Vittorio. At 30 mt from the apartment there is the oldest ice-cream parlor in Rome "Fassi the Palazzo del Freddo".
