About Dyan Oliver
If walls could talk you'd hear tales of the lives of multiple children who once lived here. Scattered about the globe now as young adults, their stories of love and joy emanate from the art and artifacts that adorn this home as it awaits your visit and a host of new adventures. Our family moved to Green Lake in 1992 and was comprised of biological and 'chosen' children who all attended Princeton schools. Now grown and living in different parts of the world, they often speak of the day when they can return to Princeton and revisit the home on the lake they shared with us. Until they do, the house begs to be filled with noise, adventure and fun to add to its history so we invite you to come fill this lovely space, create new memories and leave behind stories of your own.
Dyan Oliver purchased this House in 1992
Why Dyan Oliver chose Princeton
You'll love this property because of its unique spaces, convenience and FUN! It offers the best of both worlds...for the outdoor enthusiast, the artist and creator, and those who love to simply sit and relax. From its beams to its floorboards, it's no stranger to activity, but has fresh decor and amenities that make it lively and comfortable. On its acre of land you'll enjoy gardens, watch humming birds outside the kitchen window, revel in the majesty of the abundant bald eagle population (there was once 7 sitting in the tree outside!), see the sunset from the dock. Just an amble down the gradual hill, you'll find the lakeside cottage, cheerfully appointed with comfortable seating and two changing rooms, to be the perfect spot to BBQ, entertain, sit around the fire pit and keep an eye on the kids. Shallow entry into 110' of shoreline makes for easy access to the lake. Close proximity to Princeton and Cambridge allows for the occasional quick convenience trip, dining, shopping, or access to fun, local events.
What makes this House unique
This property is unique in its construction, history and decor. While offering the usual 'lake cabin' opportunities and amenities, there is something special about its quiet energy. Solid cedar and sturdy, it can withstand the wear of tromping feet, or appeal to the eye and demeanor of the artist or muse. On the main floor you'll find BR1, the kitchen, full bathroom, the LR and dining area with a full wall of south facing, oversized windows that provide an excellent view of the lake and lots of bright sunlight. You'll also find a wood burning fireplace and access to an outdoor deck that overlooks the lake. Up the circular stairs you'll find the loft with its baby grand, sofa and television. Along the upstairs hall there are four bedrooms and an alternate entry/exit to the house. BR2 sports a full/twin bunk. BR3 has a full/twin bunk. BR4 (master bedroom) has a king size bed and windows along the eaves for serious moon gazing. BR5 offers a full wall view of the lake....best for listening to the call of the loons and other charming lake critters.

Unique space - private location, beautiful views
Great for families with kids, a little small for the number of bedrooms - I can't imagine having 10 people in that cabin for any length of time.
Beautiful location, it feels very private on a relatively quiet lake.
Charming house with great views of the lake from the large windows
We had a relaxing vacation at this lake home. Our kids enjoyed the bedrooms with the bunk beds. They also enjoyed all of the toys and dress up clothes that were available to use. Everyone enjoyed the fire pit at night which was down by the lake. We brought our boat and tied it up to the dock during our trip. We had great weather which allowed us to get out on the lake and enjoy plenty of recreational activities. We also enjoyed using the provided kayaks for morning and evening paddles along the shoreline. I would say the only downside was that the water out front of the cabin was very murky during our stay. This was no fault of the owners. On day 6 of our stay the wind blew from the right direction and completely cleared up the water out front. I think it was just the nature of the lake for a few days and probably not the norm. Overall it was a great place to stay and we made some great memories on this trip.
Up north feel with lots of charm and amenities.
This home has everything! Not only is it charming and full of unique art pieces, it has all the amenities you will need for your vacation. The galley kitchen is small but well stocked with all your cooking needs. Only one bathroom but again, lots of towels and amenities. The home was clean and beds were very comfortable. Outside there are 2 decks, a large fire pit, kayaks, a canoe and paddle boat. The boat house is stocked with life jackets and toys. Another deck with a grill is attached to the boat house.
The house is on a hill so you will definitely get exercise going from the lake to the house. :)
There is one neighbor next to the house but we didn’t see them much. The other side of the house is private.
The lake shore is very weedy so not the best for swimming. However, we went swimming off our boat where it was deeper.
We really enjoyed this home!
It was a nice place and we enjoyed our stay
Overall a good experience the pontoon was not running which was disappointing but they had been trying to repair it but had a great time otherwise
Great lake house, lots of lake-related activities, close to twin cities, and a nice atmosphere!
We had a great weekend with 10 people. Used the pontoon, kayaks, and paddle boards: it was great and a huge plus to the property.
The rooms and beds were comfortable, and the open layout and multiple living rooms provided a opportunities for different activities.
Getting was easy as was finding the house.
A great experience overall!
House was very nice and accommodating. Pontoon was great. Grounds were quiet and peaceful.
We had an amazing Labor Day weekend here!
Pros: A bunch of them. To list a few, the house was spacious with a great view of the water and was very accommodating for adults and children. The boathouse deck is a nice place to hang out and grill. The grounds are quiet and peaceful. There is a lot of outdoor space. The deck by the main house is also a nice place to gather. The lake view is great. The pontoon was the star of the weekend. The lake is big and nice to cruise around. Caught some panfish and northern. Many loons and bald eagles spotted. The owners were very accommodating, responsive, and lovely to work with. The list goes on . . .
Cons: Very few. No sand beach. Water was a little green. Milfoil and water access made it hard to swim at the property. The boat house is more for storage than anything else; than actually being something to hang, play or sleep in. On the windy side of the lake, but this is also a pro in that there were no bugs and the breeze was nice. It would seem a majority of these cons were due to the time of year we rented.
Overall we would definitely recommend this property, and hope to come back in the future. Great rental! Thank you so much for the memories!
Beautiful Green Lake is situated almost midway between Princeton and Cambridge, MN providing convenient access to modern amenities while still retaining that private, small town feel. Located approximately 7 miles east of Princeton, 11 miles west of Cambridge, and 1/4 mile south of Hwy 95, you'll head south on Nacre, then east onto 337th Lane NW (dead end) to the third property on the right. There the two story home is nestled in a bowl of land and facing a gentle slope to the lake providing gorgeous views of the water. Just two miles down the road there is the convenience of a gas station, bait shop, and convenience store where you can pick up forgotten necessities as well as beverages and firewood to enjoy while sitting around the fire pit. For family dining stop in at the Pine Brook Inn with its reputation for excellent food. A walkable distance, you can imbibe at the friendly Hi-Way Inn, known as the go-to spot for signature burgers and homemade pizzas, bingo, meat raffles, and lively Friday night karaoke. Take our canoes or kayaks for a short, lazy ride between the banks of the gorgeous and serene Rum River that runs between the two towns, or extend your river adventure to a longer meander along its 151 mile course. Located not too far from the Sherburne Wildlife Refuge, a great place for hiking, you could opt for an afternoon ride along the 7 mile-long Prairie's Edge Wildlife Drive. Our favorites to see there are the abundant swans, sandhill cranes, and occasional eagle nest. Should you choose to fly in, both towns have small airports. For a special treat, aim for their pancake breakfasts over Father's Day weekend! The area is rich with arts and crafts, making the home a perfect getaway for weekend retreats and workshops. Check with us about area farm and studio tours. fBe sure to stop by the Saturday Farmer's Markets for delicious local products, and don't forget to treat the kids to a visit to the splash park followed by a stop at everyone's favorite summer stop...Santa Lucia's for generous stack of homemade ice cream. If you are hardy enough to choose a February stay during our MN winter, consider planning your visit to coincide with either the annual Mora Vasaloppet (a 3,000 participant cross country skiing event held less than 30 miles away) or the Princeton Lion's Club Annual Fishing Contest held right out front of the house on Green Lake (oodles of prizes). Of course, you can always stay put and enjoy cross-country skiing or snowmobiling around the lake. Regardless the activity... X-country skier, ice fisherman snowmobiler, or sportsperson of another kind, winter activities are meant to be enjoyed here as well. It's always nice to curl up afterwards with a hot chocolate or cider around a flickering fire or a good movie. You'll create warm memories and have plenty of stories to share with your less hardy friends when you return home!
