Reed's Island - Incredible Location - Yet Affordable

Bedrooms 1
Property type apartment

About the property

1 Bedroom 1 Bathroom Sleeps 2 - Registered: Hawaii ID#GE-148-952-6874-01

You already know that Reed's Island is the absolute best address in Hilo There are houses ( nice ones ) listed here for rent and getting great reviews. But do you really need to spend $ 400 to $ 600 per night to stay here? - if you are only a couple that is way more than you need to spend for a wonderful experience.

Although this apartment is attached to a larger house, it is NOT a private room in a house. It is a completely independent and separate private apartment which shares nothing with the main house - it has a totally separate and private entrance. Has its own private large bathroom and kitchenette. There is no part which is shared with the main house. This B&B is newly on the market, all new construction, and a Terrific location - check it out.

The space is 520 sq ft in size, with a new queen size bed. The kitchen area is a kitchenette, no full size oven and full size rangetop - but rather a compact rangetop, a convection oven, toaster, blender, full coffee grinding and preparing gear, an outdoor propane stovetop, full size refrigerator, pots, pans, dishes and cutlery. Really everything you will need. There is a clothes washer and clothes dryer. There is a large HD TV, with cable and streaming Netflix and Amazon movies. WiFi internet.

Reeds Island is the best location in Hilo It is where the Hawaiian royalty chose to live - our street, Kaiulani St, is named after princess Kaiulani who resided here. It is also where the wealthy landowners of old Hawaii chose to live. It is very private and secluded, cut off from the rest of Hilo by being on an Island in the Wailuku River. The road is a dead end, so traffic here is very low. It is totally surrounded by thick jungle - you cannot see any of Hilo and hear nothing but nature sounds. And yet - it is so close to old downtown Hilo that you can walk there if you wish, in only 15 minutes (3 minutes by car ).

Our apartment is the only rental that we have. It is newly constructed, on the ground floor attached to our home. Your door opens directly to view the primary lower waterfall on the Wailuku River, just downstream from the famous Rainbow Falls. This waterfall is directly outside of your door, about 50 feet below the apartment - gorgeous!

Very comfortable and homey! Attention to details made this a stellar place to stay!

Location was ideal! The roaring river outside our door was stunning! Egyptian cotton sheets, French press for coffee, eggs, juice and more breakfast supplies. Our hosts thought of everything and more to make their place a top notch place to stay. I highly recommend...

Great value and location!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I enjoyed our 5-night stay. Breakfast items in the fridge were a nice touch! On the first day we stopped at Safeway near the Hilo airport and bought some groceries and booze. We loved sitting outside with the beautiful view (just bring bug spray and/or clothes that cover up your tasty skin). I ran every morning and felt safe (just be careful crossing the crosswalks in Hilo!). The house is on a beautiful uphill street with lots of landscaping and other pretty homes. It was nice having a washer and dryer at the house. We never saw the owners, so if you are questioning whether you will have privacy with them living upstairs, you will - no worries. We did the volcano bike and hike and saw a crazy amount of active lava flow and enjoyed drinks and dinner at Kaleo’s in Pahoa. We also did the Manta Ray snorkeling in Kona with Big Island Divers and there were 6 or 7 mantas swimming and flipping underneath us. Just under a mile away (walking distance or about a $6 Uber) is Cronnie’s (we went there for beer, lunch, and the football game), Jackie Rey’s (went there twice for drinks and dinner), Cafe Pesto (went there one for drinks and lunch), and Conscious Culture Cafe (went there once for a yummy healthy lunch). You’re a short drive away from Rainbow Falls, the Banyan trees, and the boiling pots. We also went to the botonical gardens and it was well worth the $20 admittance.

Hilo home away from home!

  • 5 of 5

Returning for the third time to this quaint apartment feels like coming home to my own piece of paradise. I stayed 5 days and had everything I needed which included the provided eggs, muffins, juice, and jam for breakfast. There were also a couple papaya left by the welcoming hosts. I cooked some delicious meals in the kitchenette and enjoyed fresh brewed coffee (also provided) on the lanai while enjoying the Wailuku river waterfalls directly below. The apartment is always very clean and includes everything you need for your stay. I highly recommend it, and am already thinking about my return...again! Aloha

Island perfection.

  • 5 of 5

Reed's Island fit our needs perfectly. It was like a visit to a rain forest. Private and secluded, yet five mins from the KTA.

We will be back!

This is a great place to stay!

The hosts were well organized and provided food for breakfast in the fridge. There were clear signs for where to park and how to find the door to the apartment. Beautiful view of the river.

VERY nice neighborhood to stay in. Can walk into cute downtown Hilo if don't want to fight for parking. So centrally located, yet in a quiet, private neighborhood. Can't beat the view from the front door. Enjoyed many meals out on the patio. Apartment is just right for two and was stocked with everything we needed. Owners were very nice and left us to our privacy. Apartment is below the main house, so could hear floor activity through the ceiling in the mornings, but we were awake and to bed early enough it didn't disturb our sleep. The A/C was nice to have, but wasn't necessary in the cool evenings-we weren't really in the apartment during the hot daytime. A+, Truly paradise!
