Reed's Island - Incredible Location - Yet Affordable

Overview

About the property

1 Bedroom 1 Bathroom Sleeps 2

You already know that Reed's Island is the absolute best address in Hilo There are houses ( nice ones ) listed here for rent and getting great reviews. But do you really need to spend $ 400 to $ 600 per night to stay here? - if you are only a couple that is way more than you need to spend for a wonderful experience.

Although this apartment is attached to a larger house, it is NOT a private room in a house. It is a completely independent and separate private apartment which shares nothing with the main house - it has a totally separate and private entrance. Has its own private large bathroom and kitchenette. There is no part which is shared with the main house. This B&B is newly on the market, all new construction, and a Terrific location - check it out.

The space is 520 sq ft in size, with a new queen size bed. The kitchen area is a kitchenette, no full size oven and full size rangetop - but rather a compact rangetop, a convection oven, toaster, blender, full coffee grinding and preparing gear, an outdoor propane stovetop, full size refrigerator, pots, pans, dishes and cutlery. Really everything you will need. There is a clothes washer and clothes dryer. There is a large HD TV, with cable and streaming Netflix and Amazon movies. WiFi internet.

Reeds Island is the best location in Hilo It is where the Hawaiian royalty chose to live - our street, Kaiulani St, is named after princess Kaiulani who resided here. It is also where the wealthy landowners of old Hawaii chose to live. It is very private and secluded, cut off from the rest of Hilo by being on an Island in the Wailuku River. The road is a dead end, so traffic here is very low. It is totally surrounded by thick jungle - you cannot see any of Hilo and hear nothing but nature sounds. And yet - it is so close to old downtown Hilo that you can walk there if you wish, in only 15 minutes (3 minutes by car ).

Our apartment is the only rental that we have. It is newly constructed, on the ground floor attached to our home. Your door opens directly to view the primary lower waterfall on the Wailuku River, just downstream from the famous Rainbow Falls. This waterfall is directly outside of your door, about 50 feet below the apartment - gorgeous!

VERY nice neighborhood to stay in. Can walk into cute downtown Hilo if don't want to fight for parking. So centrally located, yet in a quiet, private neighborhood. Can't beat the view from the front door. Enjoyed many meals out on the patio. Apartment is just right for two and was stocked with everything we needed. Owners were very nice and left us to our privacy. Apartment is below the main house, so could hear floor activity through the ceiling in the mornings, but we were awake and to bed early enough it didn't disturb our sleep. The A/C was nice to have, but wasn't necessary in the cool evenings-we weren't really in the apartment during the hot daytime. A+, Truly paradise!

Another week in PARADISE

  • 5 of 5

Just had my second visit to this beautiful Reed's Island getaway~feels like coming home in so many ways to include the warm welcome back from gracious hosts Gary & Vanessa.. The views and sounds are always amazing from your covered lanai and the apartment has everything you need for a comfortable stay. So close to town, but yet still feels like a hideaway retreat. I was here for nearly a week and the only problem I have is it was not long enough. Mahalo for another great visit in a perfect piece of PARADISE! Aloha ~

A Real Gem

  • 4 of 5

This spacious apartment beneath a single family home is well equipped, clean, and comfortable. The best thing about it is it's location right on the Wailuku river. There is a waterfall right below the little lanai. It's only about a 3 minute drive to downtown Hilo. Gary & his daughters were great. They even brought us eggs one day. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. I would not hesitate to recommend this rental.

Heaven in Hilo

  • 5 of 5

Highly recommend Reeds Island for your stay in and around Hilo. My partner and I only stayed for 2 nights but folks could comfortable stay a week or more. The space is large, clean, quiet, private and has everything one would need. The sounds of jungle and water (powerful Wailuku River below) add to the relaxation. On top of all this, the hosts are incredibly welcoming and generous. They personalized our stay and made us feel even more at home then expected. Hawaii hospitality at its finest! Hilo still seems untouched by over tourism, there is much to offer in the area and if you are coming definitely stay here!

Aloha nui loa...

Don't miss out on wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

It was obvious from the time I booked that the owners are attentive, caring and thoughtful. My "Spot" was well identified and well appointed. The location is the best in Hilo, and walking to town and back is not a problem. I was a solo travelerette and was never uncomfortable being alone. Please give yourself a treat, have coffee by the river, a beer if you like, and enjoy a true tropical, Hawaii, experience at this lovely "home away from home".

Seclusion in Hilo

  • 5 of 5

Hilo is a bustling town and it was a treat to be able to pass a one lane bridge out of town and into seclusion. The neighborhood is absolutely beautiful as is this unit. As depicted, you relax looking over a raging stream with waterfall just below you. We had the pleasure of meeting Vanessa. The unit is well equipped and satisfied every need we had. Vanessa provided eggs and english muffins for breakfast as well as fresh OJ and jelly. We really enjoyed our stay here. Centrally located for easy travel to the entire side of the Big Island, you would be remiss not to check this place out if you are visiting Hilo. Mahalo for letting us check in early, it made such a big difference in how we spent an entire day. You can't go wrong booking here. Aloha!
