Overview

About the property

4 Bedrooms, 4.25 Bathrooms On 3 Floors. 3 Acres.

Colyer Kickin' Back Cabin was completed in January 2015. It is located 3 miles west of Buena Vista heading into secluded mountain living with spectacular mountain views. Our goal in building the cabin was to capture a variety of spectacular views and accommodate a number of guests with several sleeping and bath options. There is a main level bedroom on the first floor with an adjoining bathroom that can be divided into two private areas. One side has a shower and vanity and the other a jetted tub and vanity. There is also a utility room on the first floor with a bathroom and a first floor powder room. The upstairs has 2 bedrooms each with private decks. A bathroom is situated between the bedrooms. The walkout basement is completely finished with a living room, bathroom and bedroom with a double bed and bunk bed. There are also 4 twin foldout beds in the storage room ready for use. The great room is designed for gatherings and includes large dining table, fireplace and 60 in. TV Just off the great room is a deck with gas grill and the galley kitchen with granite and stainless steel appliances. We designed a breezeway area to enjoy a cup of coffee at the love seat or counter for 2 while enjoying the view of Buena Vista, pristine mountains, pines and wildlife. Internet and dish satellite are installed. TVs are also available in the lower level living room, upstairs bedrooms and main level bedroom.

About El and Deb Colyer

My wife and I reside in Southwest Wisconsin near the Mississippi River. We are avid cyclists and enjoy getting away to Colorado! I have made many trips to Colorado to climb the 14,000 ft. collegiate mountain peaks in the Buena Vista area.

El and Deb Colyer purchased this cabin in 2015

Why El and Deb Colyer chose South Central

My wife and I purchased the land after visiting Buena Vista in 2011. We knew this was a place we wanted to come back to many times. It is the perfect place to get away from the hustle and bustle and enjoy the outdoors! It is so beautiful in Buena Vista and the people are so friendly. We love to start our day at the bakery with a bear claw then get our mojo at the coffee shop. When the bright Colorado sun comes out, our favorite activity is riding our road bikes to the top of Cottonwood Pass. In the evenings we explore the area on our motorcycle. One of the most beautiful sites is Cottonwood Lake located off CR306 heading towards Mt. Princeton. Watch for the sign and turn to the left on CR344. It is approximately 3-4 miles up the gravel road. Google it for a sneak preview of its beauty!! We are just beginning to explore the trails in 168,000 acre Collegiate Peak Wilderness which borders the mountain housing development our cabin is located in. Our sons are anxious to visit the new cabin and take on whitewater rafting, ATV riding, off-road jeep adventures, fishing, zip lining and hunting in the Fall.

Buena Vista is just under 8000 feet elevation. Our cabin is at approximately 8300 feet keeping us close to town but high enough to enjoy the tall ponderosa pines and beautiful mountain views. From the east side of the house, you will see a special large ponderosa pine that grew between a rock and split it. That was the selling point of the property!

What makes this cabin unique

We love being situated between the historic towns of Salida (24 mi) and Leadville (34 mi) where there are more shops, restaurants, adventures and beautiful views.

Buena Vista with Colyer Kickin' Back Cabin - Best Vacation Yet!!

  • 5 of 5

Our vacation stay was the best we could have asked for! The cabin was in a perfect location - with an incredible view! There was plenty of room for our entire family - kids and grandkids! And the layout was perfect for visiting, playing, relaxing, enjoying the scenery, cooking, reading . . . and close to some of our favorite hiking, chipmunk-feeding, rafting, mountain-exploring! We will definitely be returning! Our entire family loved this - what a precious time we had together!

Our June 2017 stay was our 2016 Christmas present to our family.

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I wanted to give our sons and daughter in laws and our six grandchildren(that had never been to the mountains) an awesome Christmas present. Upon arrival we were greeted by a very clean and beautiful home with a beautiful view. The home design worked well for the six adults and the six grandchildren, ages 6-13. We ate our breakfast at home, packed a lunch, and ate our evening meal back at the house. The kitchen was well stocked with spices needed for our cooking. Pots, pans, griddle, crock pots and the gas grill were used by us. The dining area was large enough to handle all twelve of us if needed or many times we would eat on the spacious deck with an awesome view of Mt. Princeton. The front porch and the second floor bedroom decks also had this amazing view of Princeton. Returning home after a busy day in the area(hiking, fishing, lunch on the Continental Divide, sightseeing and ziplines) it was great to be able to have four showers in use at one time allowing all to get cleaned up in a short order while others were preparing dinner. We all liked the quiet seclusion, but closeness to Buena Vista for shopping, dining or groceries. We appreciated the recommendation by El of Lo Backs Bakery for their bearclaws at about 9:15 and the Roastery for morning coffee and Eddylines Restaurant for our final night's fine dining. Our stay at Colyer's home was a true blessing to my family and one they will remember with great fondness. Our grandchildren love Colorado and love this home.

Great stay!

  • 5 of 5

Our group of 9 stayed March 11 - 17, 2017. We came to Buena Vista for Spring Break and had a great time! The house was perfect for us. We were traveling with our 2 sons and several of their friends. The 2 bedrooms upstairs were great for the boys, we put the girls in the downstairs bedroom and my husband and I took the master on the main floor. Everyone had plenty of space to spread out. The main floor living room was large enough for us to all hang out. We prepared many meals in the kitchen and had everything we needed. The house was very clean and nicely equipped. It was close enough to town that we didn't mind running to pick things up, but far enough out that we felt secluded. If we return to Buena Vista we will stay here again. El was very responsive to the one small issue we had. You can't go wrong renting this house!!
