Colyer Kickin' Back Cabin was completed in January 2015. It is located 3 miles west of Buena Vista heading into secluded mountain living with spectacular mountain views. Our goal in building the cabin was to capture a variety of spectacular views and accommodate a number of guests with several sleeping and bath options. There is a main level bedroom on the first floor with an adjoining bathroom that can be divided into two private areas. One side has a shower and vanity and the other a jetted tub and vanity. There is also a utility room on the first floor with a bathroom and a first floor powder room. The upstairs has 2 bedrooms each with private decks. A bathroom is situated between the bedrooms. The walkout basement is completely finished with a living room, bathroom and bedroom with a double bed and bunk bed. There are also 4 twin foldout beds in the storage room ready for use. The great room is designed for gatherings and includes large dining table, fireplace and 60 in. TV Just off the great room is a deck with gas grill and the galley kitchen with granite and stainless steel appliances. We designed a breezeway area to enjoy a cup of coffee at the love seat or counter for 2 while enjoying the view of Buena Vista, pristine mountains, pines and wildlife. Internet and dish satellite are installed. TVs are also available in the lower level living room, upstairs bedrooms and main level bedroom.

About El and Deb Colyer
My wife and I reside in Southwest Wisconsin near the Mississippi River. We are avid cyclists and enjoy getting away to Colorado! I have made many trips to Colorado to climb the 14,000 ft. collegiate mountain peaks in the Buena Vista area.
El and Deb Colyer purchased this Cabin in 2015
Why El and Deb Colyer chose Buena Vista
My wife and I purchased the land after visiting Buena Vista in 2011. We knew this was a place we wanted to come back to many times. It is the perfect place to get away from the hustle and bustle and enjoy the outdoors! It is so beautiful in Buena Vista and the people are so friendly. We love to start our day at the bakery with a bear claw then get our mojo at the coffee shop. When the bright Colorado sun comes out, our favorite activity is riding our road bikes to the top of Cottonwood Pass. In the evenings we explore the area on our motorcycle. One of the most beautiful sites is Cottonwood Lake located off CR306 heading towards Mt. Princeton. Watch for the sign and turn to the left on CR344. It is approximately 3-4 miles up the gravel road. Google it for a sneak preview of its beauty!! We are just beginning to explore the trails in 168,000 acre Collegiate Peak Wilderness which borders the mountain housing development our cabin is located in. Our sons are anxious to visit the new cabin and take on whitewater rafting, ATV riding, off-road jeep adventures, fishing, zip lining and hunting in the Fall. Buena Vista is just under 8000 feet elevation. Our cabin is at approximately 8300 feet keeping us close to town but high enough to enjoy the tall ponderosa pines and beautiful mountain views. From the east side of the house, you will see a special large ponderosa pine that grew between a rock and split it. That was the selling point of the property!
What makes this Cabin unique
We love being situated between the historic towns of Salida (24 mi) and Leadville (34 mi) where there are more shops, restaurants, adventures and beautiful views.

Very nice home with an amazing view!!
Great winter getaway with family and friends.
First time staying in Buena Vista, while skiing Monarch. We usually stay in Salida. After staying at the Colyer Kickin' Back Cabin, we may have found our go to. It is perfect for your ski getaway. The cabin is fabulous and well provisioned with everything you could need for your stay. The lower level is perfect for the kids as they have their own space and plenty of sleeping options. The great room / kitchen is perfect for hanging out by the fire after a long day skiing and enjoying a home cooked meal. We would highly recommend this property to anyone considering Monarch as your ski destination. The owners are great to work with and the Cabin shows their pride of ownership. Already looking forward to next year.
We were able to bring family together and had merry beginning of New Year.
Great view 360!
Plenty of space!
Lots of privacy.
Direct access to National Forest with lots of trails, just continue to drive 5 min. apposite of town.
Our reservation is about a heating system: there was no way for us to control it on all 3 levels: it’s only slightly warm on lower level while it’s warm on the main level and hot upstairs.
Owner is extremely responsive.
great location, even better views
This place was great. The house is newer and well maintained. There's even a roomy 2 car garage you can use. The owners were very helpful. But it's really about the views here. There are 360 degree views, and the photos don't do them justice. Perfect location, with the big lot there's plenty of privacy, but you're just a few miles away from town. And two of the days there, we hiked the trails that are just up the road from the house, very convenient. Hope to be back soon.
Great house and perfect location
This is the second time I rented this house because of its location and the owner. The house is perfectly located by the collegiate mountain range. I can't say enough about the owners great people and made our stay stress free
2 miles up the road from our cabin is the entrance to the Collegiate Peaks Wilderness, 168,000 acres and part of the San Isabel National Forest. Enjoy the breathtaking views and scenery on the trails. Rent movies or games at the Redbox at Buena Vista's grocery store. Buena Vista also has ATV and jeep rental, canoe and kayak store and outfitter and bike shops. There are several parks in Buena Vista including McPhelemy park with a water area, river park with access to the trail along the Arkansas River, skate park and whitewater park. Downtown Buena Vista favorites include the bakery and coffee shop along with numerous shops.
