About the property

3 Bedroom, One Bath Waterfront Home On Nelson Bay

This sound-front home is perfect for the family who enjoys water activities such as swimming, fishing, kayaking, sailing, windsurfing or just relaxing while enjoying the spectacular waterfront view. The sound is shallow and kid-friendly and an ideal site for learning to swim and frolic in the water. For a couple, it's ideal for a peaceful, private get-away.

There is a nearby boat launch. Unspoiled beaches can be reached by a boat ride across Core Sound or by car on Cedar Island, 8 miles away. Ferry's are available in Atlantic or Cedar Island for day trips to local beaches as well as Okracoke Island (a fun day trip-take bikes).

Outstanding cuisine can be enjoyed 30 miles away in historic Beaufort.

Blown away by Windswept!

  • 5 of 5

Wonderfully comfortable and inviting! Felt like coming home. John thinks of everything you could possibly need for a vacation. The house is always clean and there are so many things to do! Windswept relaxes my husband more than any place we have been in 30 years. He is already talking about next year (we got home yesterday)!

Quiet, peaceful getaway

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time at Windswept in June 2017. As other have noted, the house was very well stocked. We are accustomed to having to provide all the misc. necessities for VRBO rentals (towels, hand soap, detergent, etc). It was nice that many of these small details were taken care of for us.

If you're like my family and want peace and privacy, this is the place! You can't see the neighbors from the main property and when venturing out, there will be no crowds or tourists like other parts of the NC coast.

As a day excursion, we ferried our 4-wheel drive vehicle out of Davis, NC (Davis Shore Ferry) to South Core Bank which offered off road sand driving to the Cape Lookout Lighthouse and enjoying the beautiful, deserted beaches. It's not inexpensive to do the ferry, but we highly recommend it as a once in a lifetime experience.

As others have noted, the closest true grocery store is ~35 minutes away in Beaufort, so plan accordingly. The Dollar General does have a lot of necessities, but if you think there will be farmers markets and fisherman selling the day's catch on the side of the road, think again.

The mosquitoes can be a real problem on calm nights. Come prepared and don't leave the doors open for even seconds longer than necessary or you'll be the feast all night.

Awesome Spot!

  • 5 of 5

I spent a week here for a kayak & fishing trip. The weather was windy and stormy for a few days but the property was fantastic, and I had a great time fishing & kayaking Nelson Bay. There are lots of great places & small towns to explore in the area and the house has everything a family would need to enjoy a vacation...well-stocked kitchen with all necessary utensils, plenty of sleeping room, towels & linens, great shower & bathroom (and even an outdoor shower), washer & dryer, good cable tv/internet/wi-fi, and central air conditioning & heating. John is great to work with and promptly answers any and all questions you may have. He notified me on the way down to the property that the washer was not working, but it was fixed promptly the very next day. The house is also well-stocked with outdoor chairs, fishing rods, kayaks, two bicycles, and paddleboards to enjoy. Just be sure to bring your groceries, and also some good bug spray for the few times when the wind dies down or brings the biting bugs around. Thanks for sharing your house John!

Most enjoyable stay

  • 5 of 5

This was a most enjoyable time for our family and I know we will surely be back here again. The seclusion of the place we enjoyed the most and having the whole beach area to ourselves to walk, paddle board, kayak and fishing was super. We were within 45 minutes of other areas to see if we wanted so we just wondered around the outer banks area every other day and took my grandkids on a fishing adventure with Captain Stacy's for a day. The place itself was very sufficient and the owner was available for us if we needed. Thank you for sharing it with us and we will be back again.

Perfect stay and can't wait until we can go back!

  • 5 of 5

Our family enjoyed a week at Windswept and it was wonderfully serene!! The house is very well-appointed and has everything that you could need and more (including kayaks, SUP's, and crab pots). It is like having your own, private stretch of beach and being in an episode of National Georgraphic - so much pristine beauty and nature on that area of the Sound. The location is private and secluded; we didn't see anyone except the occasional passing car or boat, but you are not totally isolated because you are somewhat in a neighborhood and you are less than 5 minutes from a Dollar General store and 20 minutes from a grocery store, if there's anything you forgot to bring. John was super responsive and very accommodating. I can't say enough about our experience, except that you should go!
