About Michael Sabad

Born and raised in Northern New York, career ambitions required a move away. Having traveled extensively around the world during our careers, my wife and I head back to the Adirondacks during the summer and fall for visits. We currently reside in the Knoxville Tennessee area. My goal is to make the Brookie cabin available for others to enjoy so they too can create long lasting memories. Oh, before I forget, the best soft ice cream anywhere can be found at Donnelly's Ice Cream, just a few minutes north of Saranac Lake on State Route 86!

Michael Sabad purchased this cabin in 2000

Why Michael Sabad chose Adirondack Mountains

Being a North Country native I have very strong ties to the area. I am an avid outdoor enthusiast who grew up on the lakes, rivers, ponds, swamps and in the woods of the Adirondacks and the Seaway Valley! Having spent much of my youth staying in summer camps of family and friends, many of my best and longest lasting memories are from that time. I introduced my wife to the Adirondacks years ago and it has become a special place of relaxation and restoration for us. Star Lake offers seclusion but also easy access to other Adirondack destinations and activities. For those who wish to venture further north Ottawa Ontario and Montreal Quebec are within easy driving distance as well. It's a great place to unwind, relax, and to just have a wonderful vacation experience. In 2000 the property was purchased and construction of the BROOKIE CAMP started in 2005. It was finally finished to the point it could be 'lived in' during the summer of 2014. I am excited about being able to offer this property to rent, Star Lake may just be the vacation gem you've been searching for.

What makes this cabin unique

The views of the lake from the cabin, the refreshing air and calls of the resident loons make this a very unique and special place to visit. The natural finish pine ship lap interior, soaring cathedral ceilings, and window wall facing the lake make this an inviting, comfortable and healthy place to kick back and relax. Fishing in the lake include several favorite game species, rainbow trout, lake trout, brook trout, kokanee salmon, small mouth bass and yellow perch. Two canoes, a two person Old Town kayak and 12 foot aluminum row boat is provided for your enjoyment.

Beautiful quiet peaceful clean new and tastefully decorated -

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay very much! The owner Michael is very attentive and personable.

The place was spotless and well appointed. The lake is GORGEOUS tranquil and full of fish !

Right at the Lakeside property there is a sandy bottom that goes out quite a few feet if you want to easily get in the water. There are neighbors but it is private enough. One Night there were fireworks launched off a Pontoon boat for all to enjoy. The upstairs bedroom is like a Cathedral in the morning with 2nd floor windows that face the lake. Day trip to lake placid was only an hours drive thru the Adirondack preserved Forrest where we saw lots of beautiful scenes (and even a Bear way off in the distance). Plenty of firewood for the cool nights and a good kitchen - Highly recommended.

Excellent Vacation

  • 5 of 5

Pictures don't do justice, place much nicer than depicted. Owner has eye for the finer details, from construction (2X8 walls and clear, rough sawn walls with no gaps whatsoever) to the refined furnishings and decorations (upscale and very nice). A gem of a vacation destination.

Now to Star Lake, perfect for relaxation. Wife and one teen child used every recreational boat available. Loved the peaceful canoe, and the upper body workout.

This lake was great for our small motor boat, and pulling the kids on a tube or water skis. Out a ways is the sand bar, a wonderful gathering place for meeting other families and throwing a ball around.

My only warning is the fishing. There are lots of fish, and a variety. However, they are really hard to catch! I could not get one, and another child of mine caught only 2 or 3, which were not big enough to keep. We saw some guy trolling on his platform with a really big one to the surface. Then it fell through a hole in his net before it got into the boat. Darn!

We all loved Star Lake. I would rent here again, and recommend it.

Beautiful. Tranquil. Hideaway.

  • 4 of 5

We had a lovely week in The Brookie. S'mores at the fire pit. Long, lovely beach afternoons.

Many, many pictures and memories of our first vacation with our beautiful granddaughter.

The cabin was clean, comfortable and oh so easy to relax in.

We highly recommended The Brookie and Star Lake. Wonderful all the way around.

Great week on Star Lake

  • 5 of 5

This was the perfect property for my wife and I, two teenage boys and Black Lab. Everyone enjoyed fishing , swimming, and boating in the lake, using the fire pit at night, and the convenience of the (very) small town that was a 10 minute walk away. The wifi and cable also kept everyone entertained on the one rainy day that we had. The owner was also very responsive and helpful throughout the process.

The town is very small and there are few dining/shopping options around, but that was just fine with us. We did venture to Potsdam (about an hour drive) one day to check out the colleges and stock up on groceries and a Walmart run.

There was also an abundance of local hiking trails in the area that allowed us to get out and get some exercise. The Ranger school about 10 miles away had a great short hiking trail to the top of an Adirondack fire tower that was really cool and offered some great views with minimal effort.

Overall this was a really great house.

Amazing cabin and incredible lake.

  • 5 of 5

This cabin is amazing. Practically brand new. Nice to have two full bathrooms, dishwasher, and washer/dryer.

My family fell in love with Star Lake. The water is clean and warm. The people are super friendly.

If you are looking for lots of shopping and tourist type things, this may not be the place for you. However, if you are looking for an amazing, quiet cabin on an incredible lake close to some of the best hiking in the ADKs, then this is the place for you.

My family and I will return someday.

The cabin was wonderful. Very clean, comfortable, with with modern conveniences. I traveled with two senior citizens, who managed just fine. There were only one or two steps to get in the cabin, and they had a couple of sleeping options on the first floor. The upstairs bedroom is beautiful - but the stairs might be a challenge for seniors or kids. Ceiling fans in the bedrooms came in handy on a couple of warm nights. Three levels of windows facing the lake made for a beautiful, relaxing view. The location is near town, and there were neighbors nearby, yet it felt private and "away from it all". The lake is clean and clear and quieter than others I have stayed at. The owner was easy to deal with, and provided good information about the rental. I would highly recommend this rental to others.
