About Grant Temple and Michelle McReavy

Michelle McReavy and Grant Temple are teachers in Surrey BC and have travelled and lived in many locations around the world. We presently live in Langley BC.

Grant Temple and Michelle McReavy purchased this house in 2014

Why Grant Temple and Michelle McReavy chose Thompson Okanagan

We stumbled across this sanctuary a few years back and when a cottage came available we quickly bought it because it was such an incredibly peaceful location with fantastic views.

What makes this house unique

Quiet, calm, peaceful, scenic, relaxing and awe inspiring animal viewings. Canoeing on the lake is a treat as there is little fear of large boat wakes or challenges.

Fantastic Place for All

  • 4 of 5

Our group of sometimes three, sometimes seven people really enjoyed the location, the lake, the spaciousness of the house, the open kitchen, the extensive amenities that this place had to offer. Some meditated on the dock in the morning at the edge of the lake, some went for morning swims, and we had bar-b-qued dinners eaten al fresco. While we all had our own space; most evenings were spent gathered around the living room coffee table or dining room table playing card games. The house is well outfitted and we certainly appreciated the multiple fridges throughout the house and cabana.

Perfect for our little group get together

  • 5 of 5

Well Done! It was so easy for our group of eight women to settle in and enjoy each other and the area. We really enjoyed the multiple gathering spaces and a dining table that sat all 8 of us! The yard with the little beach and gazebo was just lovely. Clean comfortable and very well equipped.

Scenery, Solitude and Serenity

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful long weekend on Vaseux Lake with our daughter, son in law and two grandchildren. The lakefront home is very well stocked, nicely appointed with plenty of room for all. Because our stay was three nights we only visited a few of the many wineries in the immediate area. The grandkids especially enjoyed the playhouse, toys and the beach. Birders paradise! A peaceful getaway.....as my grandson remarked on our last morning, sitting on the deck, drinking our coffee and surveying fantastic Fall colours across the calm waters, "It's so quiet here, even the lake hasn't woken up yet!" Thanks you!!!

Great location, beautiful property and incredibly well stocked!

  • 5 of 5

Thank you Grant for a wonderful cabin rental right on the water! It's actually more like a house. Incredibly well stocked with everything you could need in the kitchen, lots of games, activities, outdoor fun and lots of items equipped that vacationers could easily have forgotten.

The 6 of us (plus 2 kids) really enjoyed our stay and the property awed us from the moment we stepped inside. Great job on the recent reno! Lots of space indoors and out for multiple families without feeling cramped or intruded on.

Another very important component to our trip was the location and this place was perfectly situated. Right between Penticton and Osoyoos, with tons of golfing, wineries, lakes, fruit stands and small towns to explore within minutes!

Can't think of anything else that could have made it a better rental, so all I will say is that we will definitely be back!

Owner's Response: Sean and family, You hit the nail on the head with your comments. These are the exact reasons we bought on Vaseux lake. The proximity to wineries, hiking, golfing and of course privacy make this a truly special area.

Simply Spectacular Stay!

  • 5 of 5

Our party of 2 children + 7 adults aged 7 to 77 had a simply spectacular stay! Great house + garden oasis, you really can't go wrong. Fully equipped kitchens with multiple fridges & coffee machines, incredibly comfortable beds, brand new bathrooms, expandable dinner table perfect for our party of 9, and LOTS of comfortable & enticing indoor & outdoor seating. The adults enjoyed their morning coffee in the gazebo, their afternoon beer on the double swing & zero gravity chairs, and their evening wine on the bench underneath the vine-covered trellis. The zero gravity chairs came out again at night as we stared in awe at the Milky Way. I swear there were more stars than sky! Vaseux Lake is non-motorized, a true oasis for kayakers and stand-up paddleboarders. We brought ours with us and enjoyed touring north to the bird sanctuary and south to the island and lagoons where we saw deer, bald eagles, osprey, heron, ducks, beavers, and LOTS of turtles & carp! Also ventured out on our mountain bikes and tackled "Rock Oven", a rather epic and extreme single track trail on the east side of Skaha Lake. Be sure to reward yourself afterwards with a stop at Matheson Creek Farm (East side of Skaha Lake), a charming family run farm and fruit stand that serves great ice cream cones! Ofcourse there's Tickleberry's too, the Okanagan's ice cream institution just minutes away! Lots of great hiking nearby as well. Ellis Ridge Trail in Penticton offers breathtaking views of the canyon and wildlife sightings. No mountain goats on this visit but we did encounter a family of 10 or 12 bighorn sheep! Also hiked McIntyre Bluff, the big steep cliff at the south end of the lake accessible from Covert Farms. Be sure to reward yourself with wine and fresh organic fruits and vegetables afterwards while the kids jump high in the sky on their giant trampoline! Highly recommend Covert Farms u-pick - we had a blast picking the most amazing strawberries and blackberries money can buy! And where there's food, there's wine...so many wineries so close! We visited Hester Creek, Road 13, Burrowing Owl, Covert Farms, & Wild Goose....pick a few, you really can't go wrong!

The kids had a blast too! Swimming/fishing around the dock and raft, playing bocce ball, foosball, even croquet. And they LOVED the BIG pancake grill and flipper!

Thanks, G & M for all the wonderful memories!

Fantastic house and environment

  • 5 of 5

The 8 of us (7 adults and 1 child) had a wonderful week in this delightful, comfortable and fully equipped home right on Vaseux Lake. Some of us have visited the Okanagan Valley on 4 previous occasions and this was without a doubt the best in every respect. The absence of motorized craft on the lake was a real plus for us, which allowed relaxed and enjoyable swimming, fishing and paddleboarding right from our own jetty. The cycling in the area was also very good and, of course, the presence of numerous wineries was a bonus. We discovered a particularly good winery that we were not previously familiar with: Covert Farms. Well worth a visit. Our previous positive experiences with Le Vieux Pin and Lastella, as well as Liquidity, were confirmed. Everyone in the party said it was the best vacation they have had in years, if not ever! The house is spacious, exceptionally well equipped, very comfortable and ideally located in relation to the lake, Okanagan Falls, Penticton and the Penticton Airport. Grant and Michelle, it was a pleasure to meet you, and thank you for making the process of renting your home so easy and smooth, and indeed for giving us the opportunity to spend real quality time in your lovely home in Paradise. We hope to return again!

Owner's Response: Mike, Mary and family, Thank you for your very kind and informative review, especially the details about the wineries. Covert Farms is not one of the wineries we have visited but it will indeed be on our to do list now! We are happy that you found everything you needed to make your trip memorable and we are pleased you found our home as enjoyable as we do.

The front and back yard are beautifully landscaped with ample room for a large family gathering or a fun competitive game of Bocce or croquet both activities are provided.

Several Federal and Provincial bird and animal sanctuaries border Vaseux Lake. This makes not only makes bird watching or wildlife viewing easy but incredibly memorable as well. A local heard of big horned sheep can be seen regularly in the hills behind the cottage and the wild bird sanctuary boasts 63 different species. Over 50 wintering Trumpeter swans are a common site from November - March.

Lake use is restricted to NON-MOTORIZED boats. Have no fear! The Skaha Lake (motor accessible) launch is just 5 minutes away in Okanagan Falls for vacationers with ski boats. There is also a large beach on Skaha for those that want to hang out and play beach volleyball or entertain those little tykes while they have fun on the massive playground.

We are within 5 minutes to 6 wineries (Stags Hallow, Liquidity, Wild Goose, Blue Mountain, Noble Ridge and Tangled Vines) 10 minutes. to 20 wineries (See Ya Later, Blasted Church, Jackson Triggs, etc) and 15 minutes to 30+ wineries (Le Vieux Pin, Hester Creek, Burrowing Owl, La Stella, Oliver Twist, Silver Sage, Stoneboat, Black Sage etc.). Several wineries have restaurants attached to them and all have tasting rooms (seasonal). My mouth is watering just thinking about these amazing places.

If you are into hiking, the KVR trail is just minutes away. Your first Geocaching location is within a few minutes walk, as are 1500 year old petroglyphs. Just to touch these spectacular drawings sends shivers down your back.

If fishing is your hobby look no further! Vaseux Lake is rated as one of the best large and small mouth bass locations in the country!

We even have an extra self contained Cabana for larger groups that need the space. The Cabana can be rented for an additional $200. Just let us know that you need it and it's all yours!

For our RV friends a 220-volt RV electrical outlet is also available for a nominal fee ($10/day).

HOW TO PROTECT YOUR BOOKING

The big problem with booking holiday cottages over the web is that you never can be entirely sure you are talking to (and paying) the real owner. Look for those who accept Paypal – we do – which is one way to protect your payment against fraud. We also accept personal cheques and e-transfers. What ever you feel comfortable with.

Be wary of homes that look too cheap. Before handing over any money, speak to a real person. Always call, don't just email. Grant Temple is a teacher at Hazelgrove Elementary in Surrey, BC and Michelle McReavy is also a teacher at Katzie Elementary in Surrey BC. Please Google their phone numbers (to insure it is an authentic number) and take a few minutes to confirm we exist. The secretaries know we have a rental cottage and can confirm it is a legitimate enterprise.

Thanks for your interest.
