About the property

3 Story House in Historic Montford across the bridge from Downtown Asheville

This tall, thin beauty of a house provides the convenience of downtown Asheville’s many offerings, the privacy of a stand alone structure, and the novelty of trying out the tiny house trend without the commitment! Located in the Historic Montford District and a mere block from downtown, across from the Chamber of Commerce, this house is the perfect retreat for guests wishing to experience the best of Asheville. Take a stroll through historic neighborhoods, walk over the bridge to downtown for a pub crawl, shopping, fine dining, a massage, or people watching at any of the many festivals that occur virtually every weekend. The home itself has three levels; an eat-in kitchen with everything you need to express your inner-chef, a second floor with a chic yet cozy seating area and bathroom, and a top floor bedroom with gorgeous night-time views of the city, a flat screen TV with a built-in DVD player, and a washer/dryer unit. The second level also leads to the front yard with an additional table and chairs nestled between high privacy hedges for outdoor dining and cocktails. This home was designed by Asheville’s number one Interior Design firm, Greeson & Fast Design. No other short-term rental can boast of this or offer such a powerful punch of style in an amuse bouche sized package.

About Dana Dollar-Raynolds

I grew up in Atlanta and moved to New York after graduating from college. After many years in the city, my husband and I decided to make a big change and move to a place that was a little less hectic. We have a young child and wanted her childhood to be more like our own with fresh air and nature all around us. Asheville has been a lovely choice that we don't regret. Our daughter is flourishing here and in just a few short years, we have made amazing friends and feel truly a part of the community. I look forward to sharing all of the fun options we have discovered with you!

Dana Dollar-Raynolds purchased this house in 2012

Why Dana Dollar-Raynolds chose Asheville

This property was purchased along with the large house of the same colors for business purposes. The main house is used as an office for Greeson & Fast Design and several therapists. The vacation rental was originally rented unfurnished for longer periods of time but over the last few years we have received so many inquiries about it that we decided a vacation rental would be a perfect use for it.

What makes this house unique

The previous owner had a business in the main building but his permanent residence was is Charlotte. He decided to use the garage's original footprint to create a 3 story home. He would work in Asheville part-time and while here, live in the "Birdhouse". After we purchased the property, we completely remodeled the interior to make it more user friendly, using every square inch. Where the vanity now stands was a kitchen sink with two burners along side for cooking and a small refrigerator below. We removed all of these items and designated the sink on the main floor for bathroom use and created a real kitchen on the lower level. We also installed retractable screen doors on the lower level to flood the kitchen and dining area with fresh air and street views as an option for renters. All walls are freshly painted, designer light fixtures have been installed, and the yard was professionally landscaped for privacy.

Can't wait to come back!

  • 5 of 5

This was our 2nd stay in the birdhouse & it was as good or better than the 1st! We explored some of the street the house is on this time & ate a Tod's Tasties & Nine Mile. It's such a great location. We enjoy being able to walk to downtown easily. We also love cooking breakfast in the kitchen with the doors open to let the cool mountain air in. I hope we get to come back again soon!

Cute, compact, yet airy and comfortable

  • 5 of 5

The tiny house is more like a tiny mansion. On three floors you get a bunch of amentities, such as a kitchen, a dining space (indoors and out!), a seating area next to the bathroom on the main floor, and a comfortable bed on the top floor with a washer/dryer combo, tv, noise machine and space for your suitcases. Close to downtown, I could have walked there if it wasnt 28 degrees my entire stay! Hopefully we will be able to visit in the Summer :) 5 out of 5, goregous property in downtown Asheville

Sweet little house in a sweet town

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Birdhouse over a weekend for the Christmas Jam concert. The house is conveniently located in an historic neighborhood and is an easy walk to downtown. Its charm is undeniable and the cozy factor excels. This is really a fun place to stay. We did not want to leave, in fact, we want to buy it.

Small but perfect

  • 5 of 5

I've been curious about tiny houses, so it was fun to stay in this one! Perfect location just over the bridge from downtown, and on the edge of the Montford Historic District. We walked to downtown and Ubered to the River Arts District easily. The house has everything you need. Comfy bed, small sitting area, and full kitchen. Dana was easy to deal with and responsive. Steps inside are super steep so wouldn't work for elderly or small children, but perfect getaway for a couple.

Tiny House, Big on Convenience

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I came to Asheville for an anniversary getaway and loved our stay! We love the look of tiny houses and wanted to experience what it was like to live in one. It's a great place for two. The house was beautiful and so nicely done. There is some vehicle noise from the road nearby, but the incredible location within walking distance to downtown made it worth it. It was easy to "roll" myself home after some incredible meals downtown.

Owner's Response: We're so glad that you had a wonderful trip! I'm sorry that you did not see the sound machine in the bedroom. Please give it a try next time you visit! Thanks, again.
