The 10th floor Studio was better than the Sand Dunes resort

  • 4 of 5

The view from the balcony was all we could have wished for. Facing the southeast it provided views of the beach front and to the south, and good sunlight from dawn through lunch. The beach location in the middle of April was excellent. Great beach walking north and south. Lots of spring vacation kids and teens. The furnishings were good, the kitchen a bit sparse. The worse part was the arrival and departure from this large complex. The few carts available for transporting baggage, cooler & goods from car had been grabbed earlier and kept fully hidden from use by anyone else. Front desk said carts could not be found for many hours (she was correct.) & no parking available near entrance. Only choice was to lug our own baggage (3 trips) the full distance from the garage (which was not near and totally full) - and at the end of the week back to the car.

You get what you pay for

  • 2 of 5

We booked our reservation in hopes that the previous reviews were just picky, but this is not the case. The room looked and smelled like it hadn't been truly cleaned in many years. The beds are small and old. It appears the walls and ceiling hadn't been painted in years. Within 5 minutes of being in the room I saw 2 different bugs. First when I lifted the covers on the bed to check for bed bugs, which thankfully, there were none. There was a spider on the pillow. Next I went to put some towels away inside the dresser, and there was a silver moth. Not something I want to take home.

But the part the truly had us regretting booking here was the amenities. Online they list many things, pools, Jacuzzi, laundry rooms, etc. When we first arrived, there was a posting in the elevator about the indoor pool and jacuzzi being closed. We thought, okay well it's August, we'll use the outdoor unit. Wrong. There ONLY Jacuzzi at this resort is inside. When we asked about it, they told us we could go next door to the gym and use it as long as it's before 8pm.

We also experienced two different times where the booking agent for this unit was plain rude. I called early in June to book our stay and when I called I was rudely greeted by someone saying "Hello" over and over loudly and with attitude. I responded and she asked me what I wanted. It may not seem too bad but if you had heard this response in her tone of voice, it was clear she did not want to speak or help me. I didn't go any further with booking as I wanted to give her another chance, so I had my husband call. He said she seemed okay when he called so we went ahead and booked. Then in another case of calling once we were at the beach regarding the Jacuzzi not being in service, she tried to argue with my husband and spoke over him the whole time and finally just saying I'll have the manager call you and hung up on him. Not how rental agencies should treat their guests.

The redeeming qualities about this unit are the amazing view you get from the balcony and the price. Like the title states, you get what you pay for in room quality. We expected mediocre but we didn't expect to be misled to about available amenities and treated rudely by the agency. We will never book with Oceanfront Guru again and will advise our friends and family against them as well.

Cherry Valley, AR

Exactly as listed!

We stayed at this property for a week over the 4th of July. The property looks just like the listing. It is set up like a hotel room with a kitchenette. It was perfect for us. We'd fix coffee in the morning and sit out on the balcony. The pools and lazy river are nice, but there is so many other things to see and do in Myrtle Beach, we only went to the pool one time. I'm not sure if it's just because it was around the 4th, but there were people setting off fireworks every night on the beach. It didn't bother us, actually we'd sit out and watch them most nights.

I'd like to say Thank You to the property management. We ended up driving all day and had decided we were going to go on to Myrtle Beach that night. We were able to call them and actually pay for another night as it wasn't rented that night. We got in late, but that saved us from staying somewhere. One extra morning on the beach was great!

The only thing I would say about the property itself is, the parking garages do fill up. Just know if you are going to be out late, you'll spend a few minutes trying to find a parking spot.

Overall, great week at Myrtle Beach. We loved the boardwalk, Broadway at the Beach, seafood buffets, and fishing charters. And the view from the balcony was wonderful!
