About Owner/Property Manager

Luke and Catherine Fleischman have been living the dream for 15 years in Cumberland County. We enjoy skiing, gardening, riding, and running. Luke is an artist who paints and welds. Catherine is a special education teacher. We are active Virginia Master Naturalists. We generate 75% of the energy we consume by using solar power.

Why Owner/Property Manager chose Virginia

Cumberland County has approximately 11,000 residents. In 1790 there were 16,000. It is a very rural county with private farms and 16,000 acres of public land. We live here because we can run for two miles on a dirt road before we reach the paper box.

What makes this cabin unique

Solitude, bird and wildlife habitat, very little traffic, these are gifts. The cabin and main house are apart of our nation's history. Hand hewed logs and beams, stone foundations, metal artifacts from the revolution and a library of books from previous owners dating to 1810 offer a unique opportunity to understand our past.

Charming, rustic cabin in a beautiful setting.

  • 5 of 5

Though the cabin and facilities are very basic this only added to the overall experience. The screened porch was great for our morning coffee and for a glass of wine to end the day. The stairs are steep and may not be suitable for everyone, but they led to cozy bedrooms with comfy beds and pillows and I loved the fresh flowers that Catherine had put in all the rooms. Do take everything you think you might need it's a long way on country roads to get forgotten items.

A wonderful place to celebrate our anniversary.

Tranquility

  • 5 of 5

We we're looking for somewhere to stay off the beaten path. And we found it! It truly is a little piece of heaven if you love quiet and history. Great accomadtions and Luke and Catherine were great host gave us a tour and checked to make sure we were ok and if we needed anything that we might have forgotten. Loved watching the horses in the morning while enjoying my coffee.

If you ever need a change of pace and to unplug this is the perfect place. Loved it we will definitely be back.

Rustic does Right by Us

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed the rustic cabin. We had to laugh that the stairs were a little too steep for our agility dogs to climb- I guess b/c the stairs weren't carpeted the dogs were a little unsteady on their feet. We loved the quiet! Nature was our only distraction. Luke and Catherine were super friendly, accommodating, and helpful. Fresh flowers were all around the cabin. Perfect long weekend getaway- we wished we had more time to spend at this quiet retreat from almost everything! If you visit in the spring- fall bring bug spray for battling the ticks and mosquitoes. Super enjoyable respite from our daily routine.

Little Cabin In The Woods Where One Can View The Beautiful Virginia Blue Sky By Day & Stars By Night

  • 5 of 5

On Friday April 7, my husband and I, as well as our dog, were welcomed to VueMont warmly by Catherine & Luke with a friendly tour of their cabin and around the farm. They also had the fireplace ready with wood to light on a cool, windy Spring night. Saturday morning we enjoyed the screened porch with our coffee looking out at the horses grazing in their paddock. While my husband spoke at a church nearby I stayed at the cabin & worked on my granddaughter's quilt. Both Luke & Catherine checked to make sure our stay was going well & to see if we had any needs. They also shared more details about the history of the cabin & their home VueMont. While there we enjoyed walks around the farm, bird watching from both porches, but mostly we loved the peace & quiet away from any signs or sounds of the daily city life we live. Our dog enjoyed getting to run free without a lease and getting to meet their 3 dogs who were friendly just like their owners!!! 😊?

Thank you Catherine & Luke!

A wonderful experience

  • 5 of 5

My wife, our dog, and I thoroughly enjoyed our long weekend at this cabin. It's rustic nature was exactly what we needed to get away from our jobs and the distractions of our phones. The property is beautifully maintained and the hosts were very gracious and accommodating. If you are looking for a place to simplify daily life and "put things in perspective", I highly recommend this cottage!

The most quaint cabin!

  • 5 of 5

We booked this cabin as it was close to a brewery and wineries that we wanted to visit. This is the the loveliest rustic cabin for a peaceful and romantic vacation. The fireplace was awesome and Luke kept the porch stocked with wood. The cabin is supplied with games and has a nice size kitchen and bathroom. Luke and Catherine are very accommodating and friendly. They brought us tea when they found out that we forgot to bring our tea from home! The cabin has many nice historic touches and is very cozy. We plan to try the cabin in the summer to take advantage of the screened in porch on the back that overlooks the horses.
