Our quiet comfortable home provides a perfect getaway to the popular Pacific Coast region of Costa Rica. Use this as your base for sightseeing, adventure trips, surfing expeditions, or just enjoy some rest and relaxation around the pool and the house. We have created a 3 bedroom, 3 bath destination that is perfect for family and friends to share and enjoy.
The house is located in the Hills of Esterillos development and offers wireless internet, satellite TV, a local cell phone, and a full-size washer and dryer. Our private backyard pool has a concrete deck for sunning and there are two outside showers for rinsing off sand, salt, or pool water. To ensure your comfort and convenience, there is a back-up water tank for times when municipal water is in high demand and affects availability. With a large dining room table, a screened porch for enjoying the evenings and a well-furnished veranda off the master bedroom for morning coffee, you’ll find plenty of places to enjoy the gentle breezes, the mountain views, and the rainforest wildlife directly in the backyard. There are several onsite parking spaces at the front of the property which is situated on a hill.
Our partner in the house is a local Tico (Costa Rican) contractor who finished the house and arranges all the maintenance. He will arrange for someone to meet you at the house when you arrive and answer any questions during your stay or before your arrival. He can also help with tours and other arrangements and locations of things you would like to do and see.
Best of all is our local beach, Playa Esterillos. This gem of untouched natural beauty offers miles of undeveloped beach for walking, surfing and local fishing with surprisingly few visitors. When the tide goes out, it leaves perfect tidal pools for exploring and safe swimming. The La Sirena mermaid statue stands proudly in the ocean while the scarlet macaws make their daily visit to the jungle along the shore. The town of Esterillos Oeste offers a small, fully-stocked grocery, several restaurants and a really nice laid-back friendly atmosphere.
Costa Rica offers biodiversity that is fascinating. Our location provides easy access to two of the National Parks, Carara and Manuel Antonio. Just north of Carara is the Tarcoles River where visitors often line the bridge to see the crocodiles sunning on the riverbank. South of us is Quepos and the marina which provides world-class deep sea fishing. Manuel Antonio, with its beautiful beaches and amazing wildlife is close by and is a must-see in the area.
My husband and I live in West Chester in the western suburbs of Philadelphia. Costa Rica is our favorite winter getaway. We have two adult sons who also enjoy it as much as we do. I first visited Costa Rica on a school trip with my younger son in 2007. I fell in love with the people, the culture, and the fascinating wildlife, birds, and diverse climates in this amazing country. We returned several times exploring developments and eventually purchased land here.
Cindy Heck purchased this house in 2011
Our house meets all our criteria for the perfect place to go and relax: a small community, a semi-gated development for security, close proximity to a beach, the ability to finish it the way we wanted, adequate room to invite friends and family, and a modern kitchen. We then added a pool and a screened porch which we have loved using. We purchased our house as a concrete block structure in 2011 and it was finished by our partner, a Tico (Costa Rican) contractor who we met during our prior trips here. His extensive knowledge about building and maintaining structures in a tropical environment has been invaluable so the house is well built and maintained through his diligent efforts. He will arrange for someone to meet you at the house upon your arrival to be sure you are situated comfortably. He can answer any questions before you come or when you are here.
There are lovely breezes almost constantly which makes it so nice to sit on the veranda or by the pool or on the screened porch. The views of the mountains on one side and the tropical jungle literally in the backyard are so fascinating.
While we are perfectly located to take advantage of all there is to see and do in Costa Rica, you may find you are just tempted to stay at the house or wander down to Playa Esterillos and stroll your days away on the beach!
My family of 4 including 2 19 year old daughters spent a lovely 5 nights at the property. It was perfectly located between Jaco and Manuel Antonio so depending on what you wanted to do, there were many choices within 45 min.
As others have mentioned, the pics are an accurate depiction of the house and it offered all of us privacy when needed and space to share such as the pool. After the initial arrangements were made with the owners, Cindy and Paul, Mario, the local property manager was attentive and timely in his responsiveness. Every room had a ceili fan wig the bedrooms having a/c making it very comfortable to sleep and relax when the urge arose. Here is a local grocery store down the road for staple items etc and a large grocery store about a 20 min drive down by Jaco. This made it easy to make our own meals when he urge arose, and with the number of restaurants rough out the area, eating was not an issue.
I would recommend this property to anyone looking not to stay in one of the large condo developments and still be close to a lovely beach, right down he road, close by Jaco which is a vibrant Central American town with a beautiful and quite well known beach, at least 2 wonderful national parks complete wi a host of excursions, outdoor activities or to just sit at the pool enjoying a drink or two.
I hope is helps in your decision.
The pictures on the web reflect the reality of the house, for us that is one of the most important things. Everything was very good, the comunication with the owner ,prior to the rental agreement, was very helpful and nice. The only thing I would recommend is that the locks are changed in general. They are rusty and difficult to open and close, also, the dish washer did not work and a few other details that we reported to the manager and he was very receptive. I would recommend it to anyone!
We arrived late, about 5:30 pm, getting dark. Waited about ten minutes for the local representative. He was friendly. We got a really quick overview of the house amenities. Ok, we were tired from traveling all day and just wanted to chill out. That we did. AC worked great in the bedrooms. We did have to call the local rep several times over the next couple days, a little communication problem. Cindy the co-owner made it all better.
We did see white faced monkeys in the morning at the house. We saw a three-toed sloth crossing the road in the subdivision. Frequented the local expat bar at the beach. Scarlett Macaws were roosting in the trees overhead. Took a surfing lesson at Esterillo Este with Bret from the surf shop next door to the bar, and practiced yoga at a boutique hotel on the beach at Esterillo Este. Esterillo Este is a much prettier beach than Oeste. Did a little souvenir shopping in Jaco, 15 minutes away. Went to Manuel Antonio, only 45 minutes away.
We stayed at this house for 8 nights and we were very pleased by it. We were 8: a mom with her 6 children aged from 16 to 27 and her step-daughter and everybody found a confortable place to sleep and hang out.
When we arrived, a friendly man was there to greet us and show us the house. It was as expected, as shown on pictures displayed on this website. For 8 persons, it is a great size. The kitchen is great, although the cooking tools could be updated. During our stay, we got in contact with the man that greated us and he was disponible and very still friendly. He answered all of our questions.
The house is in a gated community watched by friendly guards 24/7. The walk to the beach is a little long, so pack for a few hours. Otherwise, you can go by car and park right on the beach. The house is close to the main road, good restaurants (Surf Mi and Los Almendros) and there is a little grocery store for your everyday needs. It is 3 hours from Monteverde, 15 minutes from Jaco and 45 min to Manuel Antonio National Park.
The contact with the owner was fast and friendly. We loved our stay at this house, would recommend it and go back anytime.
Costa Rica is a wonderful country and this home was perfect for us to enjoy it all. We were happy to come back from day activities and enjoy the Pura Vida in the pool at the house !
Our house is located in a small development just off Hwy 34, the Pacific Highway that runs along the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica. Nearest airports are San Jose, about an hour and a half, and Quepos, about 45 minutes. Less than an hour from the house are two of CR's amazing National Parks, Carara and Manuel Antonio, both of which hold an abundance of wildlife and plant varieties. Birdwatching with a guide at Carara will help you discover some of the 420 species in the region. Manuel Antonio is home to 3 of the 4 monkey species in CR and sloths and they can often be seen there. We would highly recommend a guide in each park as they provide high-powered telescopes and a wealth of knowledge they are happy to share with you. Manuel Antonio also provides great beaches for swimming and sunning.
Another fun trip in the Quepos/Manuel Antonio area is a sustainable organic rainforest spice farm, Villa Vanilla. From vanilla beans to peppercorns, they have an abundance of interesting plants growing along their beautifully landscaped trail. The Spices of the World tour and refreshments, made from their spices, are very unique.
Adventure tours abound in the area with ziplines, deep sea and inland fishing, parasailing, surfing, ATM trails and kayaking. These can be booked online before you arrive or in Jaco and Quepos. Our partner in Costa Rica can help you with this before you arrive or after you are at the house.
