About the property

Bird Watchers & Artists Paradise

The cottage is situated in the centre of the village. On the ground floor it has a large lounge/dining room with French windows leading out to a very pretty cottage garden. Kitchen which leads to a courtyard and garage/utility room. The bathroom is situated on the ground floor.

The staircase leads from the lounge up to two double bedrooms. One looking down towards the river and the other looking up towards Basin Road.

The cottage lounge and dining area is beamed. There is a dual fuel burner in the lounge and the cottage is fully centrally heated.

The kitchen is fully fitted with dishwasher, hob and oven, microwave, fridge freezer.

The washing machine and dryer is situated in the garage/utility room.

The cottage is very bright and airy and has a nautical feel to it.

There is parking facilities for 2/3 cars at the side of the cottages, situated in Maritime Avenue. The space nearest the brick wall is the one belonging to this cottage. It is important that you use this space as parking is not allowed at weekends in Basin Road.

The cottage has a large TV with Freeview installed, DVD player, HiFi player.

The main bedroom has a wall TV with Freeview.

There are three cottages in a row and 59 is semi detached and is the first cottage through the picket fence gate. The cottages were probably the first buildings to be built in the village so are quite unique in their appearance.

The surrounding area offers wonderful amenities for holidaymakers. This village is one of the main boating centers in Essex and whilst eating or drinking in the pub you can watch the boats sail by. The historic town of Maldon is three miles away and can be reached by walking along the canal banks or around the sea wall, where you will find an abundance of shops, restaurants, pubs and activity facilities to suit all tastes.

About Peggy & Dave Howard

Retired Couple who have an interest in boating. Now living in Sussex. Still enjoying the village life with the fabulous people who live here. Been coming to this village for over 50 years, enjoying the boating and village life on a part time basis. Will continue forever.

Peggy & Dave Howard purchased this cottage in 1991

Why Peggy & Dave Howard chose Essex

This is one if the oldest properties in the village. Centrally placed and very convenient for buses and the sea.

It is very comfortable inside with all modern amenities.

This is a cottage for people who enjoy village life, walking, bird watching and just watching boats sailing up and down the tidal river. There is also a lock attached to the canal which gives the adventurer lovely walks along its banks.

Two very welcoming pubs situated at the waters edge together with beautifully appointed tea room run by Wilkins of Tiptree Jams. This is where my family have spent their holidays.

What makes this cottage unique

A lovely cottage set in an idyllic unspoilt village with hidden treasures to explore. Once you visit, you will want to come back. This part of the country has the least rainfall annually.

A homely confortable holiday cottage.

  • 5 of 5

A comfy homely cottage with lots of character. The owners have made us feel extremely welcome and accommodated our lengthy stay with no stress. We are moving home and have used the cottage as a stop gap, it has made a house move far less stressful.

Thank you for everything.

Very nice country cottage in a great village.

  • 5 of 5

Very cozy cottage in a very walkable village, 5 minutes from the wonderful water views. The village itself was pretty quiet even at this time of year, with weekends being understandably busier. But once it was evening it was back to being very quiet.

The cottage is on the main road, so you do get some annoying road noise during the day. Inside it is small and typically sized for that period. Improvements to the bathroom and kitchen make the cottage very useful. For two it's comfortable and romantic, the stairs aren't designed for heavy packers though!

Great place to great off the grid, the mobile phone companies seem to have bypassed the whole village and it hard to get a good signal anywhere.

All around though, good cottage to get away in a great little village!

Homely well supplied.

  • 4 of 5

Ideally placed for walks along the very beautiful estuary of the blackwater river. Handy for Maldon. Great for artists walkers and birdwatchers. Excellent tea shop and two pubs on the riverside. The house was not furnished to our taste but we knew that before we arrived and it was perfectly comfortable and the kitchen was very well supplied for actual cooking! Enforced digital detox owing to lack of any phone signal or wifi was good for us.

Heybridge is close to Maldon. Maldon is an historic town with lovely quaint shops and restaurants. It was given its royal charter in the 11th hundreds. Thames barges are moored on the hythe waterfront and serve afternoon teas. Hi

This cottage has been in our family for 25 years and is a second home to us. We are not able to use it as much as we would like due to work commitments etc., but would like it to be enjoyed by others wishing to have a nice holiday break in a lovely peaceful part of Essex.
Please treat it well. Thank you.
