Selinunte (in ancient greek: Σελινοῦς, SELINUS; Latin: Selinus) was an ancient Greek city located on the southwest coast of Sicily; today constitutes the largest archaeological park in Europe. The ruins of the city are located on the territory of the town of Castelvetrano, in the southern part of the province of Trapani. In the archaeological site, there are some temples on the Acropolis along with other secondary buildings, while other temples are located on a hill not far .
Many buildings are ruined as a result of earthquakes that occurred in medieval times; However, some interventions anastylosis allowed to almost completely rebuild the Temple E (the so-called temple of Hera), and to make up for the most part one of the long sides of the Temple C.
The sculptures found in excavations of Selinunte are mainly located in the National Archaeological Museum in Palermo. An exception is the most famous work, the Ephebe of Selinunte, which is now exhibited at the House of the Traveller, inside the archaeological park, near the Acropolis.
