Overview

About the property

Harbour Retreat - a holiday cottage that sleeps 4 guests in 2 bedrooms

Harbour Retreat is a beautifully renovated property; the living area is bright and superbly finished and detailed and, along with the master bedroom, has fabulous views of the quay. If the plan for your holiday is relaxation then try sitting by the open French doors with a glass of wine watching the bustle of a busy village harbour, little blue passenger ferries heading over to Falmouth and the sound of waves lapping against the harbour wall.

St Mawes is one of Cornwall's most desirable holiday destinations and the stunning harbour surrounded by lovely local shops, restaurants, bars and hotels is a constant bustle of vibrancy during the season. There is a never ending variety of boating to keep the view changing - kayaks paddling out of the harbour, regular ferry passenger services to Falmouth and other destinations up the Fal estuary, the constant bustle of sailing boats, both large and small, and shipping movements further out to sea will keep all amused. During the winter it is a quiet, peaceful village that rarely sees frosts or snow.

Accommodation

First Floor: Harbour Retreat is set on one level. On entering the property there is a hallway with doors leading to: second bedroom with twin zip and link beds, hanging rail and chest of drawers. Family bathroom with shower over, WC and hand basin. The hallway opens out into the open plan, double aspect living, kitchen and dining area with views of the harbour. Please note that, since the photographs were taken, the bay window at the side of the property has been removed and has been replaced by a flush window. The kitchen has fully fitted units, there are comfortable sofas, a dining table and French doors that open out onto a small balcony. A further door leads to the master bedroom with 5' bed with wardrobe and views of the harbour. A further door leads to the en-suite shower room with WC and hand basin.

Exterior: Small balcony to the front of the property, walkway to the entrance door to the rear of the property from Bohella Road.

Harbour Retreat Stay

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at Harbour Retreat was great.

The accommodation was clean, tidy, spacious and had lots of extra creature comforts that we did not expect, such as a welcome pack of local produce, Ice packs, cool bag, shopping bag, first aid kit, torch, maps, toaster, microwave, tide clock, Nespresso coffee machine with coffee, games, cleaning equipment, usb charging points, there are really too many little nice touches to mention.

The main bedroom had lots of storage space and the on suite bathroom was furnished to a high standard.

The view from the balcony overlooking the harbour was nice even though impaired slightly by the roof of a building in front of the accommodation. The small balcony catches the sun and it was very nice sitting on the chairs provided watching the boats in the harbour.

The location of the accommodation is great, right in the centre of St. Mawes with everything just minutes’ walk away.

We would defiantly go back and stay at Harbour Retreat,

The apartment certainly exceeded all our expectations

  • 5 of 5

What a beautiful apartment! it certainly exceeded all our expectations. it was spotlessly clean and ready prepared for our stay even with a cream tea ready for us in the refrigerator. Emma made everything ready for us and kept in contact. We were even able to occupy ahead of time on the day we arrived. The apartment is very well fitted out with everything a small party would need and located right in the middle of the village with easy access to local pubs, restaurants and the waterfront.

The superb location and the views from the property alone make this a wonderful choice for a holiday stay and for us the weather was hot, so an added bonus.

Well done Emma!

Review of Harbour Retreat

  • 4 of 5

The apartment would have received excellent for cleanliness and condition but I considered the master bedroom carpet needed cleaning. Everything else was absolutely lovely and very clean. The owners had put love and care into the apartment and it showed. Beautifully decorated and extremely well equipped. Well placed for all village amenities and a sea view. I would stay again.

A lovely Apartment, ideally situated to enjoy the beautiful Roseland Peninsular

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this lovely apartment which was so comfortable and well appointed that we chose not to eat out on any evening. Instead we bought local produce from the excellent Deli, well stocked supermarket, local bakers, and nearby farm-shop and ate in whilst enjoying the view of St Mawes' harbour through the open patio doors.

The king-size bed was one of the most comfortable we have slept in and the provision of a Nespresso coffee machine ensured we enjoyed an excellent capaccino every morning along with fresh pastries fetched from Café Chandlers opposite the Quay.

Harbour Retreat was an excellent base from which my wife and I enjoyed the many beautiful costal walks with our Jack Russell.

Map

St Mawes is one of the finest waterside villages in Cornwall. Situated overlooking an idyllic bay on the eastern side of the famous Falmouth Estuary, St Mawes has one of the mildest climates in Britain due to its proximity to the Gulf Stream. The sea is at the heart of the village and has helped to shape St Mawes from the little fishing village to the fashionable holiday destination that is so popular with visitors. A mecca for boating enthusiasts, St Mawes is a particularly popular sailing centre. Weekly club racing, village regattas and larger events are commonplace on the superb waters of the bay all through the summer.

St Mawes has so much to offer the visitor. St Mawes Castle was built by Henry VIII and is a splendid place to take in the views of the Carrick Roads. There are miles of coastal and countryside walks to take in and some idyllic beaches on which to relax and watch the world go by. The little Place ferry takes visitors to explore St Anthony's Head or there are regular ferries to Falmouth. Being situated on the seafront, the village is also known for the restaurants and pubs that serve superb fish and shellfish dishes all year round. There is a selection of pubs & hotels with restaurants (including the renowned Tresanton Hotel) all within easy walking distance. There is a range of shops all within a few minutes' walk including a Cooperative store, Post Office, chemist, butcher, baker and art & clothes shops. The village also has both a doctor's and a dentist's surgery.

Events on the Roseland reach fever point in August when sailing regattas, carnivals, fayres and fun days take place all over the Roseland and the waters of the Carrick Roads. It is a memorable place for many people who return year after year to enjoy the magic of this beautiful place.
