About Bill Briggs
My wife and I grew up near the Great Lakes and really enjoy being around water. Shortly after moving to Georgia, we found ourselves missing home and the beauty and peace of the water. After looking high and low for several years, we found what we feel is the best lake situation on what is a true hidden gem in the southeast, Lake Hartwell. We have raised two boys, now approaching their teens, and hosted dozens of our friends at this home. We have enjoyed holidays, special occasions, vacations, and mostly just time on the weekends escaping the busy and fast pace of our lives in the Atlanta Area. Having grown up on the water, we enjoy all that it has to offer: boating, water sports, and fishing. The lake has great fishing and is home to the Bass Master Classic and over 21 species of fish. Below the Hartwell Dam, Lake Hartwell provides the main headwaters to the Savanah River. We have enjoyed fly-fishing for trout in this area, as well as walks across the dam and surrounding parks.

Why Bill Briggs chose Reed Creek
What we love most about this property is where we are located. We are have the serenity and seclusion of the lake surrounded by a farming community just 15 minutes outside of the small historic town of Hartwell. We have convenience both on and off the water with access to all of the surrounding amenities from the nearby boat ramp, marina, state park, and small town contrasted with the serene views and quite of the lake. Our property is situated on a cul-de-sak with woods and gardens creating a private setting. The cove opens to a larger part of the lake with beautiful views and great water. In the mornings you can enjoy watching the sunrise while sipping on a cup of coffee from the boat dock, or beautiful screened in porch. We enjoy taking walks down to the boat ramp where there is a public boat dock and access to the lake for pulling boats in and out of the water. The boat ramp is convenitently close within minutes, and once you are on the water our dock sits around the point which keeps it quite and free from traffic. Nearby Hartwell Marina has a boat store, grill, and is open for public refueling on the water. During the summer months, the Marina is also home to local bands and weekend shows accessible by boat, or car. Lake Hartwell covers a land area of 56,000 acres and has a shoreline of 962 miles. Unlike some of the smaller lakes nearer Atlanta, Lake Hartwell is neither crowded nor contaminated. On most days, including holidays we find ourselves alone on the lake secluded, visiting islands and treasure hunting as our boys have come to know it. We are located in some of the best water on the lake with depths of 65 feet in the channel as you leave the cove into the main body of water with depths of over 200 feet as you approach the Hartwell Dam just minutes away by boat.
What makes this House unique
A few things that make our lake home unique is the beautiful screened in porch and adjoing sunroom with bar, fireplace, and oversized table that sits 8-10 people with plenty of room for others in the kitchen and on the patio. We built the home with access to the lake and enjoyment of the outdoors top of mind. The floor plan is open with serene views and access to the outside from nearly every room. The kitchen, sunroom, and screened porch all have doorways that lead onto the open patio area in the back of the home nearest the lake. The patio is fully equipped with umbrella table, chairs, and grills; a children's playground complete with a sand pile, slide, fort, and swings; and, a rustic fire pit for making smores, or enjoying a late night fire and glass of wine. The dock can fit a boat up to 26' and has a large swim platform complete with table, chairs, and plenty of room to spread out and enjoy the sun and swimming in the lake. There is a kayak / paddle board on the dock along with life jackets available for your use along with many other toys and necessities for your enjoyment on the lake.

Property was nicer than the pictures give it credit for.
We had a great time at the house. House was very kid friendly and clean, great outdoor play area. Kids had a great time playing in the lake and was very easy to rent a boat and find the dock.
Fantastic lake home for families
Loved our stay! The home was clean and had everything we could ask for. The giant sand pit for the kids was a huge hit and of course the lake was fantastic. Would happily stay here again!
So glad you enjoyed your stay. The sand pit, fire pit, and screened porch are favorites of ours too.
The home and property are gorgeous and the kitchen had way more than we needed in every respect. The screened porch was a favorite coffee spot.
The only needed improvements would be new mattresses (they sagged a bit) and get a second kayak paddle so that guests can take out the two kayaks at one time. It was a bummer to go around alone each time.
The only other issue was the distance and slant to the lake from the house. It's not extremely steep but has 4x4 logs along the way to keep it from being too steep in areas. I read other reviews that elderly and toddlers had no problems getting down to the water so I assumed my husband could. He uses a cane and more frequently a walker and was not able to get down there. But that's my bad because of my assumption. I should have called ahead to get the details. But overall everyone had a great time.
Beautiful and Peaceful
My family and I love this home. Would stay here again, soon hopefully!!
Extremely clean and well kept, as well as fully stocked with everything you might need!
We had a terrific stay at Blue Bottom Cove! Pictures do not do justice to this beautiful property. We felt very at home during our stay, and the home and surrounding property is clean and tidy. We enjoyed putting our boat in at the ramp just around the corner and being able to keep it in the water at the dock. The house is convenient to downtown Hartwell and surrounding state parks, as well as Clemson University! We will visit again!
Love this beautiful home!
Wow! What a lovely, spacious and fun place to spend a vacation! Our family spent four nights at this VRBO and we thoroughly enjoyed the accommodations. The kitchen was well stocked with backup supplies and the bedrooms worked well for our group of three couples plus our infant grandson. The dining room and sitting area is huge and is adjacent to the lanai which was the perfect place to watch the rain fall after a sunny day on the dock. The cove is very private with great water for easy boat access. We had a blast and hope to come back again when our grandson is old enough to use the kiddie play area. Thanks Bill!
Lake Hartwell — is without a doubt one of the most beautiful lakes in the Southeastern United States. Being fed by two rivers that come right out of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the water in Lake Hartwell is reported to be more pure than in many municipal water systems. Standing on our boat dock you can look down through 10-12 feet of crystal clear water at small pebbles and fish on the bottom of the lake.
Lake Hartwell covers a land area of 56,000 acres and has a shoreline of 962 miles. Stretched out in one straight line, this would span the distance from Atlanta, Georgia to Buffalo, New York.
Unlike some of the smaller lakes nearer Atlanta, Lake Hartwell is neither crowded nor contaminated.
Having a depth of up to 202 feet, the 21 species of edible fish in Lake Hartwell have plenty of room to navigate – and yet they seem readily available to latch onto minnows, artificial lures and other fish bait.
