Maryellen & Craig Nelson
About Maryellen & Craig Nelson
Hi! We are Craig and Maryellen Nelson and we are splitting our time between Indiana and New Jersey. In August of 2014 we purchased this beautiful home on Lake Syracuse so we could be closer to our youngest son who was fortunate enough to have been given the opportunity to play football at Notre Dame. We needed a place large enough to accommodate our very large family as well as our many friends back east who wanted to come and watch him play. We quickly fell in love with the lake, its surrounding area, as well as the wonderful people of the midwest and decided to call this magical place our home. With Craig's business and both of our families back east, we still return to New Jersey, but we are here have for the beginning of the football season and through most of the Spring enjoying all of the pleasures that Syracuse Lake life has to offer. Rather than have our beautiful home sit empty during the prime summer months, we decided to share it with others who might appreciate the lake life and would enjoy all of the wonderful benefits of being on the water as much as we do. Make no mistake about it, we did not purchase or decorate this home to be "a rental". We selected the most comfortable beds and the finest furnishings since we knew we would be living here ourselves and entertaining all of our friends, and family. We leave this home exactly the way we enjoy it, and trust that the people we share it with will treat it like their very own. You will find the kitchen is well stocked with all the staple items and condiments you will need. Beer is in the garage fridge and a good supply of liquor is on the bar. We only ask that you PLEASE REPLACE what you use and leave our home in as nice a condition and as fully stocked as when you arrived so the next guests can enjoy the very same benefits as we provided you with If there is anything that is in need of repair, please notify Maryellen or our property manager as soon as possible so we can get it taken care of. ENJOY

Why Maryellen & Craig Nelson chose Syracuse
Our dream had always been to live on a lake and after looking at over 60 lake homes throughout Indiana and Michigan, we decided on Syracuse Lake for all of the wonderful amenities this home and community has to offer. It's location on the lake, as well as it's ideal access to many activities, restaurants and shopping were second to none. Both Craig and I are the youngest of 6 children, have 39 nieces and nephews and 4 children of our own. The fondest memories of our lives have been the many family vacations, holidays and special events we have celebrated over the years with the people we love. We call this home "Lake Escape" and our biggest objective has been to create THE PERFECT PLACE for families to escape the hectic pace of their everyday lives and come together to make special memories of their very own. There are no video games here, rather you will find everything you can imagine to play, relax and enjoy your "escape to the lake". In addition to the 1200 sq. ft. game room, you will find all the sports equipment you will need to enjoy outdoor family games on the front lawn, the nearby park or down by the lake. If you like to fish, the fishing is great right off the end of our pier. For boating enthusiasts, Main Channel Marina will deliver the boat of your choice right to our pier for tubing, water skiing or just tooling around the coastline. Our favorite thing to do is to rent a pontoon boat on Wawasee and journey to the sandbar on the southern part of the lake. We cast anchor, eat, drink and swim the day away. Syracuse Lake has a 5-star rating from the Hookandbullet.com for it's wide variety of fish. Nature lovers may spot the bey of swans and herons that have adopted Lake Syracuse as their home. There are 3 public golf courses and Maxwelton Golf Club is right up the block. Syracuse and the surrounding towns have a wide variety of fabulous restaurants, arts, crafts and antique shops with Amish Acres, Essenhaus, and Shipshewanna just a short drive away.
What makes this House unique
The best way to get a feel for the unique nature of this home is to read the reviews of the people who have been here and discover exactly what made their stay so special to them. That having been said, our "Lake Escape" home features multiple levels of living space, each with their own magnificent views of the lake. There is plenty of room to all be together, while also providing you and your guests with some much desired, but seldom found, privacy for alone time, quiet time or perhaps a nap. We have tried to scrutinize every detail from the cookware and place settings down to the pillows and the linens. We have even built a contingency plan for rainy days and evenings by creating a 1200 sq. ft. game room complete with air hockey, pool, ping pong and foosball tables, an exercise area, a large flat screen TV and plenty of tables and seating for players and spectators alike. We even stocked the bunk room with every popular board game ever created. For sunny days, in the game room, you will find a "Sports Cabinet" located in the exercise area. Inside you will find footballs, soccer balls, basketballs, frisbees, wiffle balls, bats, bocce, badminton, volleyball, and croquet to enjoy on the front lawn. For a larger playing field, Lakeside Park is two minutes away and features a public beach, volleyball, and shaded picnic areas. Our kids love to play basketball at the rec center across the street. Back at home, down by the lake and under the stairs, there is more equipment and games for outdoor fun including corn hole, cam jam, life jackets, noodles, floats, boggy boards, a kayak and a canoe. Every outdoor space has been generously furnished with over $6,000 of Polywood furniture to provide plenty of seating, tables and chairs for everyone to simply relax and enjoy. If walking, running, or biking is more your thing, there is a wonderful bike path that circles the lake that is 5 mostly flat miles. Rain or shine, we want your Lake Escape experience to be chock full of FUN

The home was very well done and thought out. Anything and everything you could possibly need is there as well as tremendous contact with property manager
First of all this house is huge!! Area was amazing, my husband spent the weekend looking for houses for sale on this lake!! haha I can't say enough good things! We had children ranging in ages from 1 to 15 and they all had a great time. Thanks for sharing your home with us!
Spectacular lake home
Grateful for wonderful family memories in this beautiful & spacious home!
Perfect Family Vacation!
This home provided the perfect getaway for our extended family of 20! We had plenty of room and got to enjoy all that lake Syracuse had to offer! This is our 28th year vacationing together and this was one of our top favorite places! We look forward to returning again!
Great family lake experience.
Four families, a total 15 people, enjoyed Syracuse lake for the first time. Great home and amenities. Would definitely stay again.
Perfect for a grown family of 8
We are always looking for the perfect place for my husband’s family of 8 siblings to vacation together. This house was the best. We could not have asked for more. The house was immaculate when we arrived. The pictures were true to life. 3 kitchens allowed for easy cooking and storing of food for this large group. Although the weather held out for us, if it hadn’t, the “garage” would have kept this group occupied all day and night. Tish was quick to answer/respond to our questions.
I have never stayed in a house that has EVERYTHING you could want or need but the kitchen had every appliance and utensil you could need. There are plenty of bath and kitchen towels and even beach towels for the lake.
One issue we ran into was renting a pontoon. The Main Channel Marina did not have a boat for the entire week available. The best I could do was rent from Tuesday-Friday. No one asked where I was staying and when I went to pick up my boat I was informed that I could not get it thru the channel to Syracuse and they don’t deliver for less than a 5 day rental. They finally agreed to deliver the boat to us. Moral of this story is rent your boats early. I rented ours in March. Also, know that you cannot access Wawasee by pontoon from Syracuse.
Even the boat snafu didn’t slow us down from having fun! hope to make it back soon.
We are so happy to hear you enjoyed your stay at our lake house and all the amenities were appreciated by all. It's not just a rental to us, it's our second home during the Colts Football Season, that's why you will find all the conveniences and comforts of a lived in home. We don't put stuff away when we have renters, we just ask that they take care of it like their own while they are there.
Regarding the Main Channel Marina they do have the 5 day rental policy if you want to have it delivered to our Pier. The Pontoon Boats are brand new every season so they do not want inexperienced boaters taking their brand new boats through the Channel to get to Lake Wawasee because it is a very narrow passage and they don't want them to get damaged. If you own your own boat and they are smaller than 24' they can fit through the channel.
Pristine location on Syracuse Lake. Beautiful sandy bottom for you to walk or wade in. Long dock with great fishing at the end of it. Great restaurants nearby and golf and a free fitness center up the block. Centrally located in Indiana with fun day trips to Village of Winona - shopping, crafts, gifts, rest., Shipshewana - Auction & Flee Market, Antique Gallery, Goshen - Amish furniture & crafts, South Bend - visit the University of Notre Dame Elkhart Country - 4-H Fairgrounds late July (it's the 2nd largest in the country)
