Many grandparents have booked the house for a complete family gathering of their children and grandchildren to share lasting memories in the house and on the lake. Main Channel Marina will even deliver a boat to our dock for your use for the week. A few families have even hired professional photographers to take professional family pictures. Other renters have used the house to celebrate a 60th Birthday Party or a Girl's Getaway. Eight professional guys rented the house to enter a local fishing tournament and share some laughs together.
No fighting over bedrooms here! Nearly new, spacious, lakefront home features 3 MASTER SUITES with King Size Beds… one on each level…2 with 180 degree views of the lake from your own private turret. 6 King size beds, 1 Queen bed, two queen size futons and 4 bunks. The spacious top porch, private mid-level deck, as well as the massive 65’ wide x 30’ deep lakeside patio.
Brand new kitchen on the main level with seating for everyone, and additional kitchen is located in the lower level and a third one is located in the finished garage. Two brand new grills (one propane grill on upper level and one extra large grill with a gas connection to the house outside of lower level balcony) and tons of outdoor furniture will make certain that no one goes hungry and everyone has a seat. Three steps down from the patio you’ll find crystal clear water and a firm sandy beach bottom ideal for those who like to get wet gradually, or for small children to play. For those that prefer the “quick way in” the water is 6’ deep at the end of the pier, perfect for the adult plunge on a hot day. I would suggest water shoes if you have small children playing in low water because there are a few little shells along the sandy bottom.
If exercise is your thing, take a scenic walk, jog or ride around the 5 mile lakeside bike path. There’s badmitton or bocce ball on the front lawn or simply use the fully equipped home gym, featuring a Pilates machine, Total Gym, free weights, step, balance balls and heavy bag… all of which have been strategically placed in front of a 52” flat screen TV.
After a tough day in paradise, relax and recline. Both the main and lower levels feature full kitchens, dining tables, fireplaces, big screen TV’s, and 10 seat conversation areas, each with six very comfortable recliners. Besides the master suite, the upper level has 3 additional bedrooms PLUS a 1200 sq ft BONUS room with yet another king size bed and two Queen size futons. Four full bathrooms, 1 with a jetted tub and 1 with a Steam Shower for two, means there’s no waiting time if you and your guests are getting ready to head out on the town.
Open floor plan with high cathedral ceilings and walls of windows are ideal for spectacular views of the sunrise to your left and sunsets to your right. Catch a rainbow if you can. This is the house where summer dreams come true and family memories are made.

About Maryellen & Craig Nelson
Hi! We are newly empty nesters, Maryellen & Craig Nelson, and are splitting our time between Indiana and New Jersey. In August of 2014 we purchased this beatiful home on Lake Syracuse and have decided to rent it for the months of April, May, June, July, August, and other dates through September and October.
Maryellen & Craig Nelson purchased this House in 2014
Why Maryellen & Craig Nelson chose Syracuse
Our dream had been to live on a lake and after looking at over 60 homes on lakes throughout Indiana, we decided on Lake Syracuse for the wonderful amenities of this home, plus it's location on the lake, as well as it's ideal access to many activities, restaurants and shopping. Also, the house was built in 2007, has a 3 car garage, and a geo-thermal system which makes it very energy-efficient. Craig and I selected the most comfortable furniture and beds for this home since we knew while we were there we would be entertaining many friends, family and football players. We have two gas grills, one on each deck, two kitchens and many fun toys to enjoy the lake experience. If you like to fish, the fishing is great right off the end of our dock. The lake has a 5-star rating from the Hookandbullet.com for it's wide variety of fish, including Northern Pike, Crappie Largemouth Bass, Redear Sunfish, Bream, Blugill, Perch, and Smallmouth Bass. Nature lovers may spot the bey of swans (over 20 in 2012) and scaytering of herons that have adopted Lake Syracuse as their home. In the immediate lake area, there are 3 public golf courses and free tennis at the local high school. Maxwelton Golf Club is right up the block, known as one of the best public courses in Northern Indiana. Other local activities include a movie theatre and bowling alley. Syracuse has a variety of local shops for art, crafts and fashions. For the more adventurous shoppers, Amish Acres, Essenhaus, and Shipshewanna are just a short drive away. Lastly, there are other great restaurants in town like the Down Under, you enter a gazebo and follow the circular staircase underground to the restaurant bar. Great family meals and pizza. If your an ND fan the owner will likely toast the Irish with you. Another great restaurant is the Sleepy Owl, known for their steaks and seafood. Friday & Saturday night is Prime Rib and Baby Back Ribs night, try the app. Lobster Mac & Cheese.
What makes this House unique
This home features great views from each level. There is plenty of room to host many people comfortably (14). The lake itself is 564 acres and if you want to go for a run or bike ride it is 5 miles around the lake. Up the street from the house is Lakeside Park, which features a public swimming area, park and picnic area. It hosts the 'Music in the Park' series on six evenings in the summer. Lake Syracuse also has a fireworks display over the fourth of July holiday period. A unique thing about Lake Syracuse is that it connects to Lake Wawasee through a channel. Lake Wawasee is the largest lake in Indiana and is over 3000 acreas. If you were to drive around it I believe it is 25 miles. In between the lakes there is a great restaurant called the Channel Marker and you can pull your boat up to their dock and stop for lunch or dinner, or you can drive there by car and it's less than a mile from the house. On Lake Wawasee sunbathers and swimmers often visit the 'sand bar', which is located about 500 yards off the south shore. The sand bar is a portion of the lake (about 2 acres) where the water is only 3-4 feet deep. Since the sand bar is completely surrounded by deeper water, it is only accessible by boat. With it's sandy bottom, shallow water and centralized location, it's the perfect place to take a refreshing swim, have a picnic in your boat, or chat with the other boaters. .

Beautiful home. Owners were wonderful to work with.
Everything you need to make wonderful family memories at the lake.
Finding vacation accommodations for our three generations of family of eight adults and 10 grandchildren has been a challenge until we found Craig and Maryellen Nelson's home. This was our second summer to rent this beautiful home. Everything from the lake to the garage full of games is set up to maximize fun time together. The accommodations are beautiful and fully equipped for 18 people. It was obvious that Maryellen and Craig wanted us to have a good time as well. We have many happy memories from our two summers at Lake Syracuse.
Welcome to the WOW house!
When my sister-in-law saw the listing for this house late last summer, she forwarded it to me and my siblings and mother with the subject line: "A Wow!!! House." Four generations, with ages ranging from 3 to 87, had a terrific week here in mid June 2017, and all concur: WOW! The capacious house, with decks and patio and dock, is abundant with accommodation and inviting places to visit, read, doze (in or out of the sun) and play games. Although we weren't all present every night, all twenty of us would easily have found a bed every night. The 3 year old Generation 4 representative enjoyed touching the sandy lake bottom with his feet just off the dock. Generations 2 and 3 enjoyed our paddle boards and kayaks and cruising around the lake in a rented pontoon boat -- which also pulled many Generation 3 and one Generation 2 representatives in floaters provided by our hosts. Our hosts' canoe also got a good row or two. Generation 1 Mom, with an 87 year old knee and another relatively new one, was inspired to tackle all those steps from the comfort of the Great Room to the dock, to join the boating party cruise (our back up plan was to pick her up at the Marina). With the beautiful lake, the golf course just down the road, and appealing restaurants and farmers markets nearby -- and with a great grilling set up and well equipped kitchen at the house -- we got plenty of fresh air and exercise and delicious family meals. And more than a few of us wish it rained more than it did so we'd have a better excuse for spending time in the remarkable garage, with its pool table, ping pong table, weights and other diversions. Thanks to the Nelsons for a splendid Lake Escape, and a house that surpassed our high expectations. Wow!
Wonderful Stay; Wonderful Place
Our family of 14 adults gathered together for an extended holiday weekend and had a wonderful stay. We loved this spacious, modern lake side home and appreciated all the amenities and comfort. Well thought out design with sufficient gathering spaces for eating and visiting together; great kitchen area, comfortable beds and a grand recreation area in the "garage" of the home with pool table, foosball and air hockey.
Owners provided good communication in advance of our reservation and helpful guide materials as none of us were from immediate area so made our "things to do list" easier to make.
We prepped and ate all of our meals at the house and found the kitchen very functional, adequately stocked with supplies & "tools" to cook with. The two grills, large stove and dishwasher a plus! We especially loved the deck overlooking the lake and ate out as much as possible.
Suggestions - label the drawers in the kitchen to make it easier to find things and put away; leave directions on how to use the "high tech" dishwasher. Internet was spotty at times but owners did warn us of that in advance.
Overall we loved the place - especially their personal touches like the Notre Dame room - we all agreed as a family - this place rates a Five Star Stay indeed! Go Irish!
Beautiful Vacation Getaway!
We were lucky enough to spend Christmas with our multiple families at this gorgeous home. It was perfect for the occasion with lots of room for cooking together and sharing our holiday meals! Afterwards, in the well-appointed family room with lots of comfortable seating, we watched football, played games and talked for hours around the fireplace! Both areas had fantastic views of the lake, where we watched ice skaters, fishermen and swans circling. We couldn't have asked for a more wonderful holiday together, thanks to the comfort and entertaining ease of this home.
I believe the one difference between this home and others of the same quality (which there are few), is the care the owners have taken to make their guests' stay so enjoyable. They took the time decorate the home for OUR Christmas. From the beautiful and functional common areas to the wonderful bedrooms and baths, everything exceeded our hopes, including the linens, cookware and dinnerware. They have planned well for guests and you truly feel their desire for you to have a wonderful time. Thank you, YOU make the difference. And last but far from least, was the cleanliness of the home. It mirrors the care the owners have taken of this home. I believe my father said it best when he said "this is the most beautiful I have ever been in."
Thank you for the wonderful write-up!
Craig and I are both so happy you and your family had a memorable Christmas at our Lake House. We love Christmas and we enjoyed decorating the house for your holiday.
Thanks again, and we hope you have the opportunity to come back in the future.

Spectacular view, spacious accomadations, ease in entertaining!
We had the pleasure of staying at this lovely home during Christmas. The home was more than we had hoped for. The beautiful kitchen and dining area made it fun to cook together and provided plenty of room for our family to share holiday meals together and evenings of conversation. The owners graciously took time to decorate their home for OUR holiday. It was beautiful! As an event planner, you quickly take in the overall appearance, but are very mindful of the details. The house is lovely and alone would have made a wonderful holiday vacation. However the owners' supply of cookware, bakeware and dinnerware was very helpful. The home is set up for you to walk in and enjoy yourself and your days there.
The view out the windows allowed us to watch a flock of swans circle the lake, ice skaters and fishermen. The large fireplace kept us cozy while our family played games and watched football. Bedrooms and bathrooms were situated to allow privacy for a multiple families.
I would have to say what made this home stand out from other similar rentals, is the owners' desire to make the stay excellent for their guests. From the towels, bedding, cleanliness of the home, cooking features, this home is first rate.
Thank you! You helped make a memorable holiday for us.
