About the property

Quiet and peaceful getaway with your own private waterfront

We provide a traditional Muskoka cottaging experience. It is the perfect place to gain some solitude away from the noise and bustle of the city. Therefore we do not provide WIFI or cable TV. We hope you will get outside and explore; rain or shine, wintery cold or damp spring days - Muskoka is a beautiful place.

In winter enjoy snowshoeing and skiing at local conservation areas, or zip up to Algonquin Park for dog sledding or Huntsville for downhill skiing at Hidden Valley.

In the summer sip your favourite beverage on the porch, watch the kids play in the quiet super clean Muskoka River.

If indoor activities are more your style: Our woodstove is a cozy place to curl up in front of or take advantage of the big kitchen area to make a gourmet meal.

Lovely Christmas break

  • 5 of 5

Thank you Colin and Lydia for accepting a short term booking over the Christmas period, finding somewhere to stay for 3 nights over Christmas can prove problematic in itself especially when you are looking for somewhere that you would want to stay!

The whole cottage is described accurately online and we were in no way disappointed when we arrived! The picture window is awesome and provides a fantastic level of light as well as fantastic views out to the river.

As a party of 4 we occupied all the bedrooms and nobody had any trouble sleeping through.

The extra touches like the shower gel shampoo and conditioner, towels and bedding (which not many people include) really makes a difference especially travelling from the UK.

Overall we look forward to returning and exploring the area more probably in late summer or fall, and would recommend this property to anyone looking to stay on the Muskoka river.

The only cautionary note would be that the pathway is quite steep and would probably be tough going in the snow and ice if you are physically impaired, but the description and pictures tell you this anyway.

Great place to stay as expected

  • 5 of 5

Thank you Colin and Lydia.

I did lots and lots of research regarding where to stay in Muskoka and finally I found Colin and Lydia's cottage. The place is as it was described online and its lounge is BIG and BRIGHT. The master room on main floor is the most comfortable one, the other two rooms which are upstairs and at basement are good too (I have no problem sleeping there). The paddle boat outside is just enough for us to have some water fun. Kitchen is awesome, everything is provided except for a professional chef cooking for us. Two and half washrooms are very comfortable. For guys i don't think you need to bring anything except for toothbrush and paste cuz everything is there. And by the way, there were 5 of us and everyone was "wow'ed" by this house when we enter.

Definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants to have a quiet and peaceful stay in Muskoka/Bracebridge. If I really need to point out a downside from this house, I would tell you to drive in slowly when you enter their property from driveway, the ramp is very steep!

Beautiful cottage but definitely needs seatijg and outdoor table

  • 3 of 5

We had a great weekend! Cottage was beautiful, clean an well equipped. The drive way is horrendous very steep you need a truck to get in and out also 4 wheel drive. We were told about driveway. Beautiful scenery with large deck. I wished it ha a table to go with the 4 chairs. The dock Is peaceful but no chairs down there to relax, seating area is very important if going to advertise dock area. I would have gladly brought chairs if knew as spent all of time down there. Overall a great place to stay with small issues.

Beautiful and very spacious River Chalet

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at Colin and Lydia's river chalet was very enjoyable. It is probably the nicest chalet I have ever been in, and it was very clean and extremely spacious. The large windows on the main floor overlooking the river are very stunning. We also made good use of the paddle boat provided by Colin and Lydia. To sum it up, our stay here was very enjoyable and I highly recommend this to any other guests.

Lovely setting

  • 4 of 5

We returned to this area after 14 years & it's still as wonderful as we remembered.

The property is really lovely, with a beautiful big expanse of a window from the lounge/diner/kitchen. It felt really spacious for our family of 5. It was a great base to explore the area. The property was clean, comfortable & the kitchen was well equipped. The driveway is quite steep but we managed it ok in our hire car which was a dodge caravan. Although you can swim in the river at the bottom of the garden, it wasn't really appropriate for younger children as it dropped quite deep. It really wasn't an issue though as there are beautiful areas to do this such as Kirby beach.

It may be worthy of noting that the 3 bedrooms are on 3 different floors. Having relooked at the website we have noticed it does mention it, but we missed it so that's totally our fault. Again probably not a problem for most people but we had 3 children aged 13, 10 & 5. We wouldn't have been happy having our 5 year old so far from us. She slept on a airbed in our room which worked great. Although it would've been lovely to have bedding as were staying in a few locations and not having to worry about bringing bedding from the UK just for this stay would have really helped.

The ground floor bedroom is at the back of the laundry room which is quite far away from the rest of the house. It took some convincing for my teenager to stay down there on her own, but once she got used to the noise of the boiler & more familiar with her surroundings she was quite settled.

We had a lovely holiday & we loved the area. The house was lovely too and after getting over the first night bed debate, it suited our needs. Thanks for letting us stay.
