We had a great time at this property and would rent it again. Check in was a nightmare an took way too long. The pool area was very nice although there are sign everywhere that says not to save seats. Since we were on the 2nd floor overlooking the pools, we could see people at 8:30 every morning saving chairs for the day. Between 8 and 9, 60 of the 100 chairs were staked out. Even though there were pool attendants, nothing was ever moved. People that came down after that were out of luck. I spoke to a couple of young ladies who worked there and shared my concerns. They said they were in marketing and it wasn't their issue. Apparently they don' know what marketing does. Other than that, the stay was great. I wouldn't go in high season again however. The front desk was not helpful with anything. In fact, they didn't even have us on their records because apparently it is in the name of the owner. Pleasant and nice unit...the issues seem to be in the resort itself.
We have been coming to Avista for years and it was getting a little worn. I was pleasantly surprised that some updating has been done.
Our 3 bed 3 bath unit was very nice and reasonably priced. The only minor flaw was the ice maker wasn't working. I would recommend this unit to anyone looking for a great vacation!
THE PROCESS: We had to pick up our key at the rental place (who initially didn't know who we were) and then drive to the resort-only to find that our keys didn't work and the resort couldn't find our name anywhere. An hour later, we were finally in.
THE UNIT: The overall space was outdated but fairly clean (did find a cough drop wrapper from someone other than us and place smelled stale). The master toilet ran/dripped nonstop and was annoying to sleep next to. The master shower squealed, knobs were loose on the tub and bottom edge of the door was rusted/rotted out. Table and chairs on balcony were dirty & curtain pole was broke off on the high curtain so we couldn't close the curtain completely. The balcony was big, however, and and allowed a nice view from the 2nd floor. There were absolutely NO supplies to start with. I've been at other VRBOs and there are usually at least a few necessities to start with. Just know going into this one, that you get NOTHING but linens-which are chintzy to say the least. Washer ran hot water no matter what setting (surprise!) and ruined my daughters shirt. Dryer ran for over an hour and barely dried the clothes no matter what setting I tried.
THE VIEW: Very nice view of the pool area, beach and ocean. Loved being able to see and listen to the ocean.
THE RESORT: Looked like there were employees out cleaning/maintaining the areas but my teenagers said there was food in the hot tub, the pools were cold (and stunk) & they found a band-aid in it. When we first arrived, the garage elevator was broke. Later, the turnstile stopped working and one of the inside elevators left a family stuck in it. We learned to use the stairway quickly.
THE SURROUNDING AREA (North Myrtle Beach): There are nearby places to shop and eat at. We went down the road about a mile to buy our groceries and supplies. Lots of places to walk to.
OVERALL: If we would have paid less, I wouldn't have expected so much. The high rate lead to disappointment, which the rental company didn't adjust.
My overall review of this property is very positive. There was plenty of room in the condo.
The condo was very clean.
Views of the ocean were breathtaking.
Plenty of room on the balcony for many to sit.
The only negative comment I can make about our vacation was the rental management company
that handled the rental was not very good. After getting our keys and going to the condo the key
did not work. We had to wait for the rental manager to come to the Avista Resort and try to get us access to the condo.
This was not an easy process. (it should have been easier to get into our condo)
This whole process took over 1 hour. That was a drag!!!
I would look into this process.
Great facility! The pools and lazy rivers were great. Elevators were fast. Beach area was never too crowded, even during a busy week. The room itself was cozy and well-stocked. Could use a few more kitchen supplies (another pan, more forks), but nothing that we couldn't live without. We accidentally locked ourselves out of our room, and the front desk was unable to help us because we went through a rental agency. No big deal though--we called Ocean Drive Beach Rentals and had a new key in about 5 minutes.
