Why Jan M. Iversen chose Washington State

After traveling the world in the military and corporate environment, we found there was no place as beautiful, peaceful and enchanting as our home on Guemes Island.

What makes this cottage unique

Four acres of waterfront property on a no-bank sandy beach directly at your front door. South facing cottage brings all day sun, beautiful sunrise over Mt. Baker and sunsets over the San Juan Islands. Walk to the nearby store, rent a bicycle to take you to Mt. Guemes and a 1.5 mile hike to the summit where you will enjoy a 360 degree view of the San Juan Islands. During Spring and Summer the property comes alive with beautiful flowers, blossoming trees, the sounds of birds and other wildlife. Perfect time for sunbathing and beach-combing. Enjoy afternoon wine in the Secret Garden. A mooring buoy is available at your front door and you can cook your Dungeness crab catch and steamer clams in your own private outdoor kitchen. Fall and Winter can bring stormy weather, dynamic ferry rides and perfect days for beach-combing or reading by a cozy fire.

Enjoy a peaceful, quiet day watching boats go by, the tides ebbing and flooding and seagulls, osprey, and other sea birds from your private cottage. Or, you can walk down the beach and enjoy an 8 minute ferry ride to Anacortes and experience music, theater, restaurants, spas, shopping, antiquing and the many marinas. If you bring your own power boat, there is a (Free) boat launch and you can keep your vessel (up to 25') on a buoy in front of the cottage. There is also a dinghy to row to and from your boat on the buoy. Great opportunity to cruise the inlet water ways in your boat and go crabbing or fishing then bring your catch home and cook it all in your private outdoor cooking kitchen.

Too short of stay but sweet

  • 5 of 5

The Beach cottage was awesome! After a long day of traveling the cottage was exactly what we wanted and needed. The cottage is so well stocked, everything thought of, from the robes and slippers, fresh herbs from their very own garden(wish I was planning on cooking more) sweetest welcome gift & yummy cookies that didn't last very long. It was like we were walking into our own home. The outdoor porch was our favorite place! The pictures don't do it justice. The gardens around the cottage were so beautiful . We have stayed in many VRBO homes and Jan and Dick are the most loveliest host we have ever encountered. So very helpful, we had a lot of questions as this was our first time to the Islands and using the ferry system. We loved, loved, Dick's stories and his life history. They give you privacy but yet right there if any help is needed. Definitely and hope to stay again.

Owner's Response: These wonderful guests were the reason we are so happy we decided to rent our cottage through VRBO. So many interesting and thoughtful guests, like Laurie and Brad, make everything we do worth while! The cottage was as pristene when they left as it was when they arrived! We want to be sure your vacation with us is exactly the kind of vacation we would want to enjoy ourselves. Looking forward to our next guests...... Sincerely, Jan & Dick

Wonderful, Relaxing, Beautiful

  • 5 of 5

My husband and two grown boys loved this spot. The cottage was immaculate and so nicely appointed. They thought of everything to make our stay extra special. The view and proximity to the beach were a highlight. We loved walking on the beach, biking, and just chilling on the patio. Jan and Dick were wonderful owners, so helpful and friendly. The first night we stayed, there was a great band playing outside by the Anderson's General Store and restaurant. A highlight was that we were there for opening crab season and got to enjoy some fresh crab via Dick's hard work. We would definitely go back. Kristen

Paradise beach cottage exceeds expectations

  • 5 of 5

We spent 3 nights at this amazing cottage and couldn't have been more pleased. Jan and Dick greeted us like old friends and showed us their darling cottage next door to their home. Their abundance of beach décor and personal touches far exceeded our expectations.... and then there is the sandy beach and salt water steps from the deck. Ah-the deck. A perfect place to relax and read(did I mention the hundred or more books available throughout the cottage and even a small private upstairs library?) and to watch all the boats, kayaks and ferry sailing right by.

We ate breakfast beachside at the spacious table with cushioned chairs and used the grill to bbq some steaks for dinner one night. Be sure to bring your groceries-the cute little store nearby has limited offerings, but great cookies!

Walking the beach and the nature preserve nearby we discovered on island time, everyone is friendly and waves as you pass.

Didn't get to the sport court-but it is all there, just waiting to be enjoyed....

Jan and Dick are superlative hosts-their cottage easily deserves 10 stars and so do they!

Owner's Response: By any measure Laurie and Brad were perfect guests.....spending time enjoying almost everything our cottage has to offer! We love it when our guests find more than they expected when staying with us. Thank you, Laurie and Brad, for leaving our cottage as pristine as you found it . We're so happy you enjoyed our gift of the very special cookies from our island bakery and custom blends of oil and vinegar from our wonderful shop in town. We hope to see you again soon. Cheers, Jan & Dick

This place is absolutely spectacular! My husband and I spent the weekend there and it could not have been more perfect. It is such a cute, clean and cozy house that sits right on the beach. You cannot beat the view. It's also conveniently located as the ferry is merely a 5 minute walk away, so if you want to venture out into Anacortes, it's really easy. In addition to the house being absolutely wonderful, the owners, Jan and Dick, are two of the loviest people you will ever meet. They are so warm, welcoming and just all around genuinely good people. What a fabulous find. I truly can't wait to go back.

Beautiful home with amazing amenities!

  • 5 of 5

For the years we have travel to Guemes this property far exceeded our expectations! The proximity to the beach, ferry and store is wonderful - not to mention the beautiful mornings and evening sitting on the deck enjoying the boats, mountains and the ocean which is right in front on the deck. The homeowners have taken great care inside and out! Every room is well appropriated - you will be pleasantly surprised and everything you need is in each beautifully decorated room. The owners are wonderful and we really were disappointed to leave this amazing property! You will not be disappointed!

Wonderfully relaxing get-away

  • 5 of 5

Jan and Dick have done an amazing job of providing for every need and want for a relaxing retreat. They are welcoming and accommodating when you need them and invisible when you don't. The beach cottage itself is lovingly appointed, appropriately stocked and perfectly situated for beach-front fun, from beach combing, to reading on the deck, to building sandcastles to just watching the world float by. The nearby store (2 blocks away) has the basic things you might forget and the attached restaurant has a delicious local and seafood menu. I can't imagine a better spot and can't wait to return.
