Hot tub, wood stove, ocean view, need I say more?

  • 5 of 5

Though I agree with all the reviewers on the wondrous nature of this hidden gem, I like to write the kind of reviews that have information about the property that aren't included in the VRBO description. So here goes!: The kitchen is truly well-equipped including garlic press, baking sheet, roasting pan, blender, toaster oven and analog meat thermometer. If you are going to cook meals there, you will need to bring everything to prepare a meal including spices, cooking oils, food storage stuff like foil and plastic wrap, and of course food. If I had the forethought, I would have brought my knife sharpener and my french press, because I am a coffee snob. The nearest grocery store is called Murphy's Market in Trinidad, and has everything you need. The kitchen sink faucet has a filter on it for good tasting filtered water. The sofa is not the most comfortable piece of furniture (if you are a sofa snob. Or old) but it certainly is sufficient. It faces the ocean view, but you can turn it to face the fire and TV if you are so inclined. Washer and dryer in this room are fantastic and new, but I don't recall seeing detergent...? They provide fire starters for the stove, and wood, and there is plenty more wood stacked outside by the shed (go explore why don't you!). One word of caution: if you plan to use the hot tub, don't have a fire going at the same time. Of course it's safest to attend a fire, but mostly it's because the smoke from the fire floats down upon you in the hot tub and gets a bit, well, smokey! THE HOT TUB IS FRICKIN' FANTASTIC! Need I say more? I don't think so. Two white robes are provided by the property. There are lots of good pillows and blankets in the bedroom, and the queen bed is quite comfortable. The whole house is tile (except for most of the bedroom) so if you get cold tootsies, bring some slippers. The bathroom has plenty of towels, but like the consumable kitchen items, shampoo is there if previous renters left some, though the property provides little round bar soaps. The shower is quite good (takes awhile for the hot water) though the shower head was a bit droopy. We didn't mention it at the time we stayed, but if we had the property manager is extremely reachable and responsive, and would have come out to fix it. The property is immaculate and very recently updated with mostly all new everything. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and highly recommend it to couples for a romantic getaway, even as a honeymoon destination!

Everything and more!

  • 5 of 5

The views are breathtaking - better than the pictures. Our 3 sunsets: we arrived 30 minutes before sunset and needed to get to the store to get provisions but we stood and watched the sun descend into the vast ocean and the sky light up with soft orange color. Our 2nd sunset was planned for the hot tub as we enjoyed some of the most spectacular colors God has ever created. The 3rd sunset was on a rainy overcast day and we weren't expecting anything - what we got was a lovely soak in the tub - no sunset visible! The grounds, even though winter, were well tended, had some native flowering plants, primroses and the promise of Spring with iris's poking through the dirt.

We enjoy cooking (especially my husband), and had all our meals there - why would you leave? While a tiny cottage, the kitchen is large and very well equipped - it lacked nothing. Enjoying a morning cup of fresh ground coffee I had packed our own beans, but with no need. We were provided with fresh organic beans that we enjoyed each morning - yes, in the hot tub.

A few other items of note were the "entry" into the bathroom and bedroom which offers a place to store boots and coats. We enjoyed the sound system and there is even capability for watching Netflix (so no need for DVD capability as someone earlier mentioned).

Also, likely listening to feedback, there were a couple of beach towels and fresh, unused (tags still on them), bathrobes. They were great for getting into and out of the tub.

We also enjoyed the wood burning stove and appreciated the generous supply of wood.

Being there in January, and after seeing the comfort and view of this lovely house, we spent 2 full days, just enjoying the hot tub (1 day in the lovely pouring down rain), sitting out on the deck (the day there was some sun and no rain), reading, cooking and just being grateful for the opportunity to enjoy this marvelous little cottage.

Looking forward to staying here again on our treks from California to Oregon to visit my dad. This is a stop we'll relish getting back to!

We really enjoyed the Garage house in Trinidad... booked it for our honeymoon. Breathe taking views. Everything you need is here. Cozy warm fireplace, hot tub over looking the Pacific Ocean. Wonderful local restaurants near by. Can’t wait to come back. We had a wonderful time.

Great rental for relaxing and exploring the area

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I rented The Garage House for 6 nights over the Thanksgiving holiday week. It was a perfect for us - right size for two, very well equipped, quiet location, amazing views. Soaking in the hot tub taking in the sea views after a day's hike in the redwoods was very relaxing and regarding. We had good (not rainy) weather so were out everyday - but could have easily spent a view days just staying at the house reading and looking at the views. Will definitely rent again.

Spectacular ocean-side retreat

  • 5 of 5

This is a very comfortable, very private get-away for two. The view is breath-taking.

The set-up in the living room is somewhat awkward, and there is no provision for viewing DVDs. On those foggy rainy days by the sea shore, a better equipped entertainment center would be an asset.

Best rental ever.

  • 5 of 5

This the best vacation rental I have been to. When you arrive at the "garage" for it looks like a garage from the street, you have no idea how incredible it is going to be once you open the front door. It is a perfectly arranged 1 bedroom with a great room that has everything layed out in such a comfortable manner. The views are incredible from inside and even more incredible from the large decks. The hot tub on the deck is private and has those same incredible views. Even the bedroom has views. The place is decorated nicely and everything you need is there. I am definitely planning on coming back. Note to future travelers: do pay attention to road conditions. Between fires, rock and mud slides and wash outs, all highways in and out of Humboldt county have had their days of closure this past year. When we left, 101 south was closed due to fires, 36 east was closed to road repairs and 299 east was closed intermittently due to damage by winter rains and recent fires. This was the first weekend of Oct. 2017 that I stayed at the Garage House.
