Expectations Exceeded

  • 5 of 5

The house features phenomenal views (especially from the top deck) and a fantastic outdoor area by the pool. All of the rooms were clean, and the decor and amenities were appreciated. Beth was incredibly responsive and helpful. The walk to town is only about ten minutes or so and involves a hill, but it's that very hill that gives the house the view others that are more centrally located won't have. Plus, being just out of the intensity of town, yet close enough to get there quickly when you desire it, can be a good thing, especially for those seeking a more tranquil experience.

Peaceful paradise!

  • 5 of 5

Beth was an amazing host, and her rental is just perfect. I was there in the summer, and having the pool was amazing. I can't imagine staying in Sayulita in July without a pool! It was hot, and there was no AC, but the fans were great, and I enjoyed the heat. The space is up on a hill, with great views, and with the peace and quite I was looking for on vacation, away from the downtown nightlife. The kitchen was well equipped, the beds were comfortable, and her dog Ruby was a love to have around. Beth made sure that we had everything we needed. While it was a little ways off from the beach, I loved walking around and did not feel that I needed a car at all. I would highly recommend this rental!

Ok property - expected better

  • 2 of 5

The house is quite nice and the pool is beautiful, but this property has several problems that can affect your vacation if you don't know about them in advance.

AC: the house doesn't have air conditioning and it's really really hot and hard to sleep only with fans. Perhaps it's better during the winter season, but the summer is impossibly hot.

BATHROOM: nicely furnished, but the septic system doesn't allow guests to flush toilet paper - a major inconvenience!

2nd BEDROOM: it's located upstairs from the main area and it's accessible through an outside staircase. The bedroom is nice, but it's completely open and there are lots of insects and small lizards inside the bedroom. Plus, it's really hot.

LOCATION: the house sits on a hill and you would definitely need a car. We were told we wouldn't need a car and thus had not budgeted for a rental. Yet, after the first couple of days, we had to rent a car to move around more easily and be able to carry umbrella and chairs to the beach. So, if you plan on staying here (especially with a family), you definitely need a car.

KITCHEN: the kitchen is not super clean and the stove is old. The fridge didn't work well when we stayed at the house. We had a few items go rotten because the fridge wasn't cold enough. Many times we had to use the freezer instead of the fridge to make sure food would be cold enough. We were promised this problem would be fixed, but it wasn't in the 10 days we spent at the house.

WIFI: the wifi connection is poor and works sporadically. We had to finish some work during our vacation and this was a major problem.

Owner's Response: It is unfortunate that we had unseasonably hot weather during the time of this guests visit. Our property it not advertised as having a/c. Our units have multiple ceiling fans and floor fans when needed. I offered additional fans to the guest but they were refused. Anyone who travels in Mexico knows that you typically cannot flush any paper products down the toilet. Additionally this is clearly stated in our rental agreement which this guest read and agreed to. One of the unique features of staying in Casa Terramar is our 2nd floor ocean view, outdoor living space and bedroom. It is one of the main reasons folks rent the house. So again , I’m confused, why someone would rent a house with an outdoor bedroom, if they didn’t want that experience. It is clearly stated in all of our descriptions, photos etc. I personally discussed via phone and email our location. I suggested that the guest wait until they arrived to decide on transportation. The umbrellas and chairs that are mentioned are offered to our guests as an amenity. If guests do not want to bring them….they can easily rent them at the beach. There was a problem with the refrigerator. When I was alerted to the issue, 2 service companies were called that day. I offered the guest the use of another refrigerator in another unit which was vacant until theirs could be repaired. The offer was refused. And even more groceries were purchased. In the end the fridge needed a part which had to be ordered. It was repaired as soon as the part arrived. It is true that we were without internet for 1 day. I had the opportunity to upgrade the modem but had to turn in the old one to do so. I did this late morning into the afternoon when most guests are out. I take great pride in the property and the guest experience and attention provided. I have hosted hundreds of folks in 5 years and believe the real truth in this case was that Mexico, Sayulita, Casa Terramar was simply not their type of place. To future guests I hope you look for our other reviews readily available on the web. And always if you have any questions or concerns I'm happy to personally address them. Thank you.
