Our cottage is great for families or a couple couples, or the girls shopping and wine getaways. Golfers, Skiers as well as hikers and bikers will enjoy the options that are all close by.

We are secluded with a 1.25 acre lot and just over 200 feet of lake frontage with a sandy beach for the kids and grandkids to play in. But also close to all the fun stuff like Torch lake, Golf, lots of shopping, skiing, hiking, biking and so much more.

Families will love the large lot and quiet safe area that has very little traffic. Apple and Cherry orchards are right next door. The boating and water sports are incredible. There are 5 lakes all connected together with the Grass and Torch Rivers, so you have over 100 miles of shoreline and over 31,000 acres of lakes to explore including Torch Lake which is just a few minutes away and has been voted one of the most beautiful lakes in the world.

Hikers, bikers, runners, walkers and site seers will enjoy the quiet rolling hills and roads in our part of the area. You will see deer, wild turkey, swans, and our favorite, the Loons. The spring with the smells from blossoms from all the orchards and the morels in the woods is a quiet but nice time to visit. The fall with the incredible colors is worth a trip. Stop in at one of the maple syrup shacks along your way and enjoy true maple syrup.

Foodies will savor the Up North restaurant choices. Northern Michigan has become a vacation destination for food and wine lovers. There are so many choices you will need to come back again. Whether it be Cajun inspired food at Pearl's, Polish cuisine at Leg's Inn, or perhaps one of the farm to table restaurants or a cherry pie from one of the road side stands, you can't go wrong.

Shoppers will enjoy the many small towns all within a short drive. Traverse City, Sleeping Bear Dunes, Leelanau wine country, Elk Rapids, Petosky, Charlevoix, Gaylord and Boyne City, Harbor Springs all make for a nice day trip.

Golfers will love that there are 7 courses within 12 miles of the cottage including highly ranked ( #12 ) Hawks Eye, ( #16 ) Cedar River, and Arnold Palmer's Legend course at Schuss mountain. Within an hour's drive you will find courses from Jack Nicklause, ( The Bear ). Gaylord area has 17 courses from designers such as Robert Trent Jones, Tom Fazio, Rick Smith, Jerry Matthews to name a few. There are over 40 courses within an hours drive of the cottage.

Hunters can expect to find plenty of deer, wild turkey, as well as other small game. Fisherman will be in heaven as Clam Lake and the other 4 lakes are full of Bass, Perch, Blue Gill, Pike, Muskie and Atlantic Salmon. There is even a couple of winter Ice Fishing tournaments.

Why Mark and Erin Tepe chose Bellaire

We had been vacationing in the are for a number of years and saw this house that had room for our family of 6 as well as room for friends and relatives to come visit. It needed some love and attention to bring it up to date. With 4 bedrooms and 3 full baths and a large kitchen and family room, it has the perfect amount of space for family gatherings. 2 bedrooms are on the main floor and the other 2 are upstairs.

The lot is 1 1/4 acres with over 200 feet of lake frontage. We have neighbors on one side and a small public access on the west side. Bring your boat / pontoon / water craft. DeWitt's marine and Butch's marine both offer pull up filling for all your water toys as well as beer, pop food and munchies for the day on the lake.

Clam Lake is normally much calmer than Torch Lake because of it's size.

What makes this cottage unique

You will love the location, the quiet setting that is close to so many things Northern Michigan has to offer. When we found this place, it needed some love and lots of hard work and now we are sharing it with our family, friends and new friends we meet thru VRBO. You just can't beat waking up to a calm as glass lake, with the sounds of Loon's calling nearby.

If its a rainy day, sitting on the porch as the rain hits the steel roof has it's own hypnotic melody that somehow makes a rainy day at the lake a good day to put your feet up and kick back with a book you've been wanting to read but haven't been able to find the time.

Beautiful home, great location

  • 5 of 5

Mark and Erin were lovely to work with. Their home is absolutely beautiful and it was a privilege to stay there. The kids enjoyed playing in the sand. We all enjoyed watching boats play in the lake from the beautiful porch. We also loved the ease and convenience of having the public access right next door as well as the dock to tie up a boat.. The interior of the home is large and spacious and has everything you'd need for a week. There isn't air conditioning, which isn't normally needed in northern Michigan but it did challenge our arrival a bit as the cleaning crew had closed up all the windows and turned off all the fans, apparently thinking there was AC, which got us off to a bad start when we started cooking dinner in a sealed up house and just kept getting hotter. With fans on and windows wide open it stayed very comfortable after we figured out the thermostat is for heat, not cool. But for those with severe allergies, something you should know. It's not advertised as having AC but it was an assumption we made we wouldn't want someone else to repeat.

Amazing House, Yard and Owner!!!

  • 5 of 5

Mark is great to work with. House is beautiful and big! Lots of space and wonderful yard. The neighbor is not a nice lady. Her dogs ran into our yard every day and took our baby toys - then she was crazy upset with us. Odd. As we left she screamed at us the entire time. However, we will stay here again and pray she can be a happy person.

Clam Lake Cottage treats families to the good life on Torch, Elk Lake and beyond!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of four and friend's family of five arrived to a clean, well stocked house with loads of space, great views. We soon found it was close to everything for a blue lake vacation in Northern MI. Huge yard with lots of space for kids to roam both front and back, nice dock for the boat (watch the shallow water though), and fire pit stacked, set, and ready-to light for an evening campfire. Saw great view of the Milky Way and we were treated to a wonderful meteor shower as well. Clam Lake is right out the back door and great center of operations for fishing, kayaking, paddle boarding and swimming. Also a nice sheltered place for water skiing and tubing. Torch Lake is a jewel with beautiful blue and turquoise water; we could opt for boat cruising out on the crystal waters, or heading to the sand bar to enjoy cold drinks in calf-deep water while the older kids explored the "drop off" into the darker blue depths. Grand Traverse Bay is a 30 min trailer trip away for boaters or fishermen and was a treat for us to explore - we snorkeled around the "Metropolis" ship wreck across the bay from Elk Rapids Marina and enjoyed lunch at "Knot just a Bar". Would recommend many of the obvious choices for dining including Dockside (5 min away), Shorts Brewery (10 min) and the ice cream shop in Alden. Just stay away from Alden boat slips if you draft more than 2' of water...better approached by land. Sleeping Bear Dunes is a quick trip from the cottage and worth the drive - 500' tall sand "mountains" right next to the lake make for unique scenery and a challenge for climbers who have the desire and energy. This cottage really made us feel like a home away from home for a week in early August - way too short! The owner Mark Tepe is a pleasure to work with, speak to, and provide pointers - we had good knowledge of the house and local area coming in. We look forward to coming back!

Beautiful property!

  • 5 of 5

The house is spacious and fit 7 adults and 3 children very comfortably. We loved spending time on the wrap-around porch and near the fire circle. The kids loved playing in the big 'sand box!'

In the heart of Northern Michigan, short scenic drives to Traverse City, Charlevoix, Gaylord, Elk Rapids, Petosky, Harbor Springs, Sleeping Bear Dunes. The perfect location for those that like to travel around on short trips, as well as those that want to sit on the porch and simply read a good book
