Amazing Property, Awfully Maintained

  • 2 of 5

Casa Mirador is a beautiful property and was great in terms of space needed to accommodate 13 guests and myself. Melania our cook was AMAZING! She prepared and served Traditional Style Costa Rican Breakfasts daily, at our requested time and with a smile! She even accommodated the Birthday Girls request for her special day! She was THEE ABSOLUTE BEST feature of this rental.

If you are looking for a great space that requires you to clean spider webs, kill spiders in bathrooms, remove a wasp nest in the BBQ (in order to use it), clean a dirty pool and wash clothes in a washer and dryer that requires multiple washes and dries per load, then this is the place for you! Needless to say, our planned Pool Party/BBQ turned into BBQ chicken in the oven and Burgers made on top of the stove and us sitting in the common area eating. It is sad that such a great property is not properly maintained so that its visitors can truly enjoy it! If it is not used regularly, send a cleaning crew a day or two before renters arrive to make sure that it is worth every cent that it’s being rented for.

While Natalia (property manager), greeted us at the property, she definitely did not see us off which was very disappointing. In addition, we requested a reservation that was never made and we only found out when we attempted to revise it! Thankfully, the Birthday Dinner was not ruined and everything worked out!

My friends 40th Birthday celebration was filled with positive vibes, great people and was full of adventure but this rental gets 2-stars and I pray that they get it together because it can be an amazing place to stay!

Amazing sunsets!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Casa Mirador last week and truly enjoyed our stay. Even though our 4 kids are scattered throughout the states, we all arrived on the same flight together except our son from St. Thomas USVI. Not only did our concierge, Sebastian, make sure 6 of us had transportation from the airport to the house, but he made sure our son that arrived at a different time and left at a different time was taken care of and we appreciated that we didn't have to worry about that. Sebastian was very responsive and willing to help when needed-he also took care of last minute transportation to take some of us golfing. The house is very nice. There is plenty of room and things were in working order (minus some remotes that we put new batteries in but no big deal). The pool was nice for cooling off after golf and our fishing excursion or to just sit around or in and visit. We had Diego (private chef) and Michelle come to treat us to dinner at the house one evening and it was such a great experience and so was our day with in-house massages (which Sebastian helped coordinate prior to our arrival)! The housekeepers were there each morning before we woke for the day and had rice/beans/eggs/fruit for breakfast on the table within minutes of us waking up. Our family is not accustomed to having people cook for us, so it seemed uncomfortable at first, but worked out ok even with the language barrier. The house is located close to town, but far enough away from the activity/noise of town, which made it a great location! We rented golf carts while we were there and they were the perfect mode of transportation for us to go into town, go to the grocery store, go to the beaches and bars, etc. The view from the deck and the balconies of the house were the best and we saw some of the most fabulous sunsets while we were there. I'm so pleased we decided on Costa Rica and casa Mirador for our yearly vacation with the kids. We all had a fun filled, and relaxing week.

This property was awesome. The home has 5 bedrooms each with there own bathroom and very private. Melania cooked breakfast every morning and it was awesome and she also cleaned the house everyday.....she was awesome. Our Concierge Daniela was great she booked all of our adventures ahead of time and if she could not book them she put me in contact with the person. We also had Chef Frank that cook a taste of Costa Rica in the house and that is a must do. Also don't worry about a car just rent golf carts. I was a perfect vacation.

A Great Place for a Group

  • 4 of 5

We had an extended family reunion here for 13 of us, including 7 kids. Everyone loved the spacious house where we could spread out or meet up in the main living area. The beds were super comfortable and the rooms individually air conditioned, which was important during our sweltering stay. The highlight of our trip for the adults was the delicious breakfasts by Melanie and Ava. The highlight for the kids was the family of monkeys that came to visit us in the trees just beyond the pool!

Great home with friendly staff

  • 4 of 5

This home easily accommodated our group of 13 during a 4-night stay in June 2016. The house was large and well maintained. The bedrooms were large. The pool was clean. The common areas could easily accommodate our group of 13. The staff (Ava and Melanie) were exceptional, cooking a delicious and plentiful breakfast each morning and tidying up the place during the day. They are excellent sources of information if you really want to learn about the real Costa Rica. Our children enjoyed their stories of everyday life in Costa Rica. The owner was responsive to our communications.

Our only issues with the house was its location on top of a long, steep hill which made walking to the beach in hot weather quite difficult for the younger children. The house is about 6-7 blocks to the public beach -- mostly uphill on the return home -- but only 4 blocks to the edge of town. Since we had rental cars, we drove to the beach every day. The kids could have made the trip by foot but not without a lot of complaining about the hill and the heat, especially after a long day on the beach. Another thing to be aware of is that two of the bedrooms are in the basement near the pool. To get to these rooms, you need to exit the rear of the home, walk down a flight of steps and enter from the pool deck. Not a big issue but certainly one that I would have liked to have known about early on, especially since some in our party were concerned about children having to leave the house to get to their rooms.

On the plus side, the views from the balcony were amazing and parking in town was free and plentiful. The location also provided us with some wildlife on our last evening --- a family of monkeys climbing on our fence and into a nearby tree.

We would definitely stay here again.

Good House, Poor Seating and Management of Staff

  • 2 of 5

Our family of 12 stayed here during our trip to Costa Rica, and we had a great time in Tamarindo despite a frustrating experience with this VRBO. This place could be great, but the owner’s communication and management of the house staff made it second-rate. The location was close to town and beach—walking distance which was great since we did not have a car. Be aware, it is located at the top of a hill. The property was clean and well maintained and the pool—even though small was an excellent area for us to congregate for coffee or a drink before dinner. We had dinner at Pangas Beach Club one night which was EXCELLENT! The concierge associated with the house, Sebastian, was a highlight; he booked great activities for us—a fun sunset cruise and a great estuary tour with crocodile and monkey sightings. The house sleeps 12 but the gathering areas are not very large. Seating does not accommodate 12—the dining table is large but has only 6 chairs. Decks are small, as well, and only have 2 chairs and a bench. At the the pool there were only 2 lounge chairs and 2 high stools. The breakfast was basic eggs and dry toast usually served cold. Don’t plan to eat all at once. We had been spoiled with mind-blowing meals at our place in Arenal (98704). Our main complaint was with the management by the owner, Brian, and his supervision of the house staff. The main area is not large enough to have them there all morning long. Our family wanted to hang out and visit in the morning and on our second morning at the house, one of the two cooks/maids brought her two kids with her. We had no problem with this until the four of them proceeded to sit in the front room on the couch eating our cake from the previous night and texting on their phones. We finally went down to the pool area so they could have the house to themselves. When we came back upstairs they were preparing lunch for themselves—again with our leftovers from the night before, which we paid for. The person to leave the house observed them sitting on the couch using some of our nail polish. We texted Brian (because we had tried to call before with no luck) to make him aware of the situation and asked that they not come the next morning. We received no return call, no apology—only a brief, dismissive text telling. Overall the area is great and the house is clean and really could be superb, but the breakfast, staff, seating, and management of staff made this a 2 star for us.
