Our charming West Berkeley apartment is the only residential unit on the property and covers the entire second floor of an old corner grocery store building. The master bedroom is set up with a brand new queen bed and the second bedroom features two XL twin beds. There's also a bright and sunny living room, combination kitchen / dining room, and one bathroom with shower/bathtub. The kitchen is fully stocked with plenty of dishes, pots and pans, spices, refrigerator, and a microwave. Please note there is no dishwasher!
Hardwood floors run throughout the apartment, as do period details from the early 1900s. High speed wireless internet is included. Please note: There is no cable TV service in this apartment but there is an Apple TV and Netflix, YouTube streaming available. There's a dedicated off-street parking spot for you out front and you'll also have use of the large backyard (including a gas grill) for the duration of your stay.
The ground floor of the property is occupied by Leafcutter Designs, our family-owned creative design studio. We have a few employees that come and go three days per week via a separate entrance. It's a very quiet operation and we'd be happy to give you a tour if you'd like!
•• Great West Berkeley Location ••
The apartment is located in the heart of what used to be known as Ocean View, a neighborhood roughly bounded by San Pablo Ave to the east, Gilman St to the north, University Ave to the south, and Interstate 80 to the west. Within this easily walk-able rectangle, you'll find all of the wonderful shops, cafes, and restaurants of Berkeley's Fourth Street district, including Bette's Diner for breakfast, Peet's Coffee, The Pasta Shop, an Apple store, Books Inc., and many others. Picante Mexican restaurant, Whole Foods Grocery, REI, and Walgreens are also just a short walk away.
The North Berkeley BART station is 1 mile away (about a 15 minute flat walk) and access to Interstate 80 is super quick via either University Ave or Gilman St.
West Berkeley has really come alive over the past three years, with new apartments and condos being built and fun new shops opening up. We love to just walk around and see what's changed since last week!

Be sure to check out the 5 local wineries within walking distance: Donkey & Goat, Eno Wines, Robert Boggs Winery, Broc Cellars, and Lusu Cellars. Beer lovers can walk to Pyramid Alehouse, Trumer Pils Brauerei, and the new Fieldwork Brewing Co. And for sake fans, there's even Takara Sake USA just across University Ave. Takara does tastings and has a small sake museum that's open to the public.

The apartment is suitable for kids 6 and older and/or babies under 7 months.
The apartment is heated by a single (but very powerful) wall heater in the living room. It works great but on the very coldest winter nights you'll need to leave the bedroom doors open to the living room to enjoy heat throughout the night. The bathroom is far from the heater and can sometimes be chilly at night.
Finally, you will hear some street noise from time to time (but no freeway noise), as well as the occasional freight train rumbling down the I-80 corridor. It's all part of staying in a vibrant semi-urban environment!

Fantastic location in West Berkeley. Easy 5 minute walk to famous Fourth Street area for eclectic shopping, great restaurants, and coffee shops. The neighborhood is full of well kept residences, vibrant food and tourism businesses, and interesting architecture. You can leave your car parked out front all week!

About the owner: I live in San Francisco with my wife Katherine and two kids, ages 1.5 and 4. I manage this second floor apartment on behalf of my parents, who split their time between Berkeley, CA and an off-the-grid beach shack in Uruguay. Along with my sister Lea, I own and operate Leafcutter Designs, a creative studio located on the ground floor. I grew up in Seal Beach, CA and attended UC Berkeley for grad school. We often rent out our home in San Francisco via VRBO as well (#510794). I'm on site regularly and am always available if any issues come up during your stay!

This building was constructed in 1908 and features all the charms of an old corner store with living space above. It's located on an extra large corner lot with plenty of space between our neighbors and a huge back yard. We absolutely love all that is happening in West Berkeley and we wanted to part of it!
