We had a great experience and would definitely rent this house again.

  • 4 of 5

This house suited my teenage sons as well as my 86 year old mother. Not fancy but very clean, comfortable, and had everything we needed. The location is excellent and even though there is a house in front of this one there is still a great view and easy beach access. The deck was our favorite place especially because it didn't get afternoon sun. The owners were great to work with and responded quickly anytime we reached out to them.

Great Location!

  • 5 of 5

We had a blast and could not have asked for a better location! We had family staying at the condos right beside the pier. When we went to visit them, the beach was crowded which was a total shock to us because the beach in front our house was so peaceful with very few people. The house is behind another home but it still has a wonderful view and great deck for drinking coffee and watching the sunrise. We are already talking about coming back again this fall! Tyler, the property manager, also stopped by to check on some repairs being done to the house. She was great to chat with and offered us some some history on the house and a few dining recommendations. The house is pet friendly which we loved since we have 3 small dogs. It is just a short drive to the shops and dining options on Folly. Be prepared to pay $15 to park, during the weekends, if you head down to the pier area. We had a couple of days with bad weather but still made the best of them by heading to downtown Charleston. I HIGHLY recommend Poogan's Porch. You must try their pimento cheese fritters! Eat at the Lost Dog Cafe for breakfast, their grits are awesome. Make your way down to the end of Folly and check out the light house. The house is close enough to walk the beach to the lighthouse if you are up for a 25-30min walk. The house is great, the location is perfect and Folly is awesome. Counting down until we can return and hoping for a repeat visitor discount ;)

Cute beach cottage

  • 4 of 5

Although the place is undergoing some renovations on the outside and the new owners still have some updates to make on the inside, the house was pleasant with a nice ocean view and just steps from the beach. The owners live in the house directly in front of this one and were very nice and accommodating doing whatever they could to make our stay better while the renovations were going on. If we decide to stay there again, I hope everything will be done by then as this has the potential to be a really cozy and beautiful house. I think putting in some shutters or shades would help keep the house cooler during the day as it really heats up in there, also small changes, like a fabric shower curtain liner, more lamps so you don't have to use the overheads all the time, and a dustpan for small cleanups (there was a broom, but no dustpan), and maybe an umbrella outside on the patio for shade.

Great location and access to beach

  • 5 of 5

This is a really nice property. My family stayed over Memorial Day weekend this year. It's well equipped in the kitchen and has nice bedrooms. The main floor living space is open and provides views of the surf. It also has hardwood on the main floor. Which takes a bit of getting used to since there is so much sand around. But it's better than carpet which I can't imagine how groady that would be. Also - the removal of the spiral stairs is a plus. It's now a normal wood tread stair way up to the top. Air conditioning is superb no problems. No squeaky drier or washer.

It's kind of a quirky place however. A large, sand-castle-like "house" is actually built between this one and the surf. The offending house is completely out of character with the rest of the structures on the beach. It does, however, offer the opportunity to muse about why someone would build such a monstrous thing in the first place. Fortunately, the windows you can see in the photos are of that house's spiral staircase and no one is there looking back. The obstruction-house is also designed so you can actually get a nice view under it of the ocean/beach. (adds to the mystique of how such a thing was built) We had a great time here. Had a bit of a problem that someone took the remote from the ceiling fan for the great-room when they left. But Tyler came out and provided a couple of fans the morning after arrival that helped move the air around. The only real complaint I'd have is that the address is not marked well. We had some friends over and the only way I was sure they'd know the location was by moving the trash bin out by the road (which is marked with the house number). At night finding it was quite a challenge.

It's literally only a few steps to the beach and the water is pretty nice (i'm not much of a ocean-going sort so that says something). Also, I could have spent my entire time there just watching the pelicans swoop by in formation and diving into the ocean to get whatever they were hunting for. My wife is encouraging another visit in the coming year.

Reality check: it's a pain in the neck to drive through Folley Beach town to get back up to Charleston. Many people on the road, some not entirely sober. Night driving is a special challenge. But if you can bring your supplies and hang out at the beach (without going anywhere) I can't imagine a better place to do it at. Thanks to Tyler for helping on several occasions - she is very accommodating and helpful.

Beach was just steps away

  • 4 of 5

The dryer definitely needs attention, once the squealing starts it's constant. We did enjoy the house but had several issues with leaks, the main one appeared to be from the bathroom upstairs into the bedroom downstairs where my husband and I were sleeping. We would definitely stay there again once these issues are resolved. We also survived the hurricane which reaked havock on the house but there was nothing the owner could have done about that.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the feedback on the dryer, I have made a service call to make sure that the dryer is fixed. I'm sorry to hear about the leaks during your stay. I have had a roofing company come and make all repairs. It appears that the leaks were caused by roof damage from the Tropical Storm that came through during your stay so luckily there was not any leaks from the upstairs bathroom. I'm happy you had a good stay and would love to have you come back and stay again! Thank you!

Great family vacation!

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed the house and had a great time! The dryer, however, had an extremely loud squeaking noise! The kitchen was very well stocked with cooking utensils and dishes. Also appreciated the beach towels especially since we forgot ours at home! Great family vacation!
