Cozy, charming newly renovated casita with Mexican Saltillo tile floors, and countertops. The casita is private, very comfortable and great for walking to many destinations. It is a one bedroom with queen a size bed, new queen size sleeper sofa with memory foam for added comfort. Fully stocked kitchen, washer and dryer, cable television with blue ray player, and internet service. Huge door windows that open for lots of natural light and furnished with exotic southwest furniture. Private single dwelling in a beautiful quiet neighborhood with huge trees. Casita can comfortably accommodate three people. Dog friendly. One dog allowed.

About Janet Mathews

I am originally from a small east Texas town of San Augustine. I was raised on a ranch and was a barrel racer by the age of 9. I have a great appreciation for all animals and anything outdoors. I was a high school history and psychology teacher. I quit teaching and became a serial entrepreneur. I have been self employed for most of my adult life. It seems that I really like to sell things ( it makes me high). Some of my businesses consisted of selling imprinted sportswear to schools as well as hand painted wall murals. For the last five years, I have taught onsite CPR and First Aid to company employees and schools. I now live in Galveston, Texas and enjoy entertaining and the beauty of the Gulf Coast. My mantra for life is 'you reap what you sow' and 'don't sweat the small stuff'.

This property is in a beautiful upscale neighborhood with tree lined streets in the heart of Montrose near downtown Houston. It is artsy and hip in every way. The architecture is 1920s red brick mixed with the current new styles of urban structures. So many attractions are in walking distance such as restaurants, wine bars, coffee bars ,bakeries, antique shopping, and Allen Parkway ( a beautiful park for walking, running, biking, and dog walking). Theaters and Museums are literally 5 minuets away. The neighborhood is quiet with many long time residents walking their dogs in early mornings and late afternoon. The location of this property is so wonderful because you are always driving against the traffic and you can jump on every freeway in minuets.

Affordable cottage in Houston is cozy, close and comfortable.

We had a wonderful weekend in this cottage. We saved money on food by cooking in this amazingly well equipped kitchen, slept well in the comfortable bed and enjoyed the cool night air at the outdoor table. The home was welcoming, convenient, quiet and comfortable. Thanks for sharing it!

Good location!

The place is allocated in a great spot. It is a pet friendly place as well and the neighborhood is extremely well kept so walking the dogs in the evening was comfortable for me and my wife. The parking situation is on the street which is like 50 feet away, so if you travel heavy keep that in mind. The casita is behind a house and the front door has a large window that you can view the tenants of the house every time they go outside. Overall a great stay in a great location.

Pest control needed, inadequate heat, frozen pipes- WARM weather casita only

Just visited Houston on a research trip. Thought I would rent the Casita for a quiet, safe place to write and base out of for interviews and work around the Houston area. Arrived on 1/4/17- did eventually find the address- it would be helpful to have street numbers up on the house) Parking on the street was fine and neighborhood is very welcoming and safe- The first night was fine- I turned on the heat since it was in the low 50's and went to get groceries - the apartment was still cool when I went to bed but I had found an extra quilt in the closet so was OK. That night the flat roof overhead had some critter who was scratching and digging the entire night. It was unnerving..... I live in the country so am accustomed to wildlife but this sounded like it was going to come thru the ceiling. No amount of pounding on the ceiling or yelling would scare it off....I left Janet a message. The apartment was really cold the next morning so I warmed up by turning on the kitchen stove- too cold to write. Off to coffeeshop. My second night found weather plunging the temperature to below freezing. The heater is entirely inadequate to heat the space in such temperatures. I piled all the blankets I could find on the bed to keep warm enough to sleep. Overnight the pipes froze so I had no water the next morning. I left another message! I was told a space heater and pest control was on the way. When I returned that night a space heater had been left and was struggling to heat the living area up to a livable temperature. Janet asked me to keep the water trickling out of the faucets since it was to get below freezing again...which I did. The sound of water and fighting raccoons/ possums on the roof as I drifted off to sleep under massive piles of covers- I could not run the space heater when I was asleep obviously. Pest control caught a cat and then left... with the trap. Even with running the water thru the night I only had a thin stream of warm water the next day- inadequate to shower or wash hair. I heated water on the stove to bathe. Not what I expected when I did this rental. Monday I had water enough to shower as the temperatures got above freezing. So...go when it's warm. Janet tried to fix things but she finally just emailed me that things had just gone to sh*t and sorry! The critter problem is really creepy. Suggest they insulate the pipes coming from the main house for the water and get better source for heat! Miserable....

Owner's Response: The Casita got assaulted with all kinds of problems that have never happened before like freezing temperatures and critters on the roof that came out of nowhere. This is the second year I have rented it and have never had a complaint. I have insulated the pipes that go to the Casita and have gotten rid of the critters on the roof putting a scent repellent up there. After this ordeal and attempts to fix it, I now know what could happen and am prepared. I always want my guest to have the best experience possible and I do what I can to make that happen. You live and learn. I have to say that Sandra was a really good sport considering the circumstances. Many people would have been irate. I invite future guest to come in winter and I promise to be more prepared for cold weather.

Cancelation Policy: Guest must cancel 10 days in advance in order to get a full refund. Less than 7 days you will require a forfeit 50% of the reservation amount.
The tenants in the big house come and go and or restricted from moving when people park behind them.

Owner's Cancellation Policy

  • 100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date.
