About Robert Grant
We were both born, raised, educated, and built our careers in Maine. We love all aspects of the state with its mountains, where we ski, the lakes where we enjoy kayaking, fishing and camping. Our son and his family live in Michigan. We are both retired and look forward to seeing more of them. You can see our dog Cappy in some of the pictures as he is our shadow. We enjoy dining in the many superb restaurants in the area. We love to entertain which is why this house appealed to us 35 years ago. The backyard is very inviting with blueberry bushes, a grape vine, apple and pear tree. We have a male and female Cardinal that spend the most of their day at our feeders as well as a host of Maine birds, squirrels and chipmunks.
Robert Grant purchased this House in 1983
Why Robert Grant chose Falmouth
We purchased this property thinking we would make improvements, redecorate and sell it but after spending a few years in it we loved its personality and the location was so perfect we decided to do additional improvements and stay. We still cannot believe how private it is while being so close to all things exciting and delicious. We love to eat our warm weather meals on the screened in porch with the pool and the porch lit up at night. We feel like we are in the country, yet we are just 10 minutes from the center of Portland. It is prime location with easy access to all of southern Maine and even two hours to Boston. The train is 10 minutes away too!
What makes this House unique
Each person who visits us for the first time is very surprised at the interior size compared to what they expected when seeing it from the front. Many rooms have been altered and improved upon over the years. The home is now at a point where the word predictable is not used to describe it. The backyard is totally secluded so it too is a pleasant surprise for first time visitors. The private back yard with large deck and pool gives one a nice option for relaxing and sun bathing without feeling as though you need to go to the beach.
100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date.
Peaceful, Relaxing, Wonderful!
From the first correspondence to the last, Bob was always available, prompt with his responses and very informative.
The house was perfect! Lots of space, an amazing, private backyard, comfortable beds and great kitchen appliances. We swam, grilled, rode bikes and took advantage of the proximity to Portland, Freeport and other places. I'm a beach person but had no desire to leave the poolside. We loved the large deck with lots of seating options. We never used the dining room table because we loved the screened-in porch so much! When we were at the house, 99% of our time was spent out there, eating dinner, listening to music, reading and just relaxing.
There was not one thing we wished the house had.... everything was there.... right down to "chip clip" holders.
It was a welcome surprise to have not only a detailed manual of each room in the house (where lights were, how to operate the cable/TV), but also Bob and Bonnie's restaurant recommendations (the pizza suggestion was spot on and welcomed on a hot move-in day).
Our dog was also very happy to have such a large yard to lounge in the shade. All the neighbors we met on our walks were very nice and Teddy met some new friends!
I could go on and on.... but overall it was a wonderful stay.
Thank you Bob and Bonnie!
Portland hub of activity
We had a great week in Maine; doing a number of fun activities (tours, hiking, shopping)...and having a centrally located house was a key to our enjoyment. The property is quiet and peaceful, well-maintained, and inviting. We did experience a small mechanical problem during our stay. One phone call and the owner (Bob) was over to fix the issue in a few short hours! We really enjoyed the house, and would recommend it for families and those with pets (nice swimming pool and yard area).
Great home base location - unique amenities - privacy
This “home away” is just that in a great location with privacy and unique amenities. As former Portland-area residents, this was the perfect home base for us for our return to Maine with our two teen sons and goldendoodle to revisit many of our favorite places and interact with family and friends. We know the area well and this home was central and easy travel to Portland, Back Cove/Payson Park, South Portland/Cape Elizabeth, Falmouth/Cumberland, Yarmouth/Freeport, and Scarborough/Old Orchard Beach. The things we enjoyed most about the home included: the private fenced-in backyard; large built-in pool; expansive deck with BBQ; and the lovely screened-in back porch with fun evening lighting. We found that there was plenty of room and personal space for the four of us. We were outside every day enjoying the porch, deck, BBQ, and pool . . . even in mid-June when the Portland weather can be cooler but so refreshing.
Bob and Bonnie are thoughtful hosts and their home was well appointed. We noticed the little things including: the gift of Maine-blend coffee (thank you!); a great assortment of information/brochures about the area; a well-appointed kitchen with plenty of cookware and diningware; lots of seating options in the kitchen, dining room, porch and deck; a well-placed lighter and umbrella on the back porch for the BBQ; the basket of beach towels on the porch; the array of pool toys in the shed; and the separate beverage cooler in dining room. When I contacted the hosts seeking the location of lobster tools, they went beyond and shared the location of a fabulous lobster pot and special lobster platters for our yummy feast!
Rainy days? It was great to have a place to chill and sleep late without going stir-crazy. We casually ventured into Portland and picked up chowder from Gilberts on Commercial Street and grabbed some delectables from Pat’s Meat Market on Stevens Ave for outside grilling and hosted a casual dinner with some old friends.
While we liked visiting many of the wonderful things Southeast Maine has to offer, we also truly enjoyed just going home and interacting with family and friends at our 'home away from home." We look forward to returning in the future.
The owners were great and they had everything we needed. My kids loved the pool.
Cozy and comfortable home
The house had everything we needed and felt very comfortable and relaxing from the moment we walked through the door. We loved the pool , unfortunately we did not get a chance to grill because the nights we planned to do that it rained.
My husband and I celebrated our 24th wedding anniversary by going to this great restaurant in Portland called Dimillos. We enjoyed the hiking and walking trails and the beach nearby.
The neighborhood was quiet and peaceful but nearby was lots of shoppping.
The Home owners were kind and answered any questions I had and accommodating. A wonderful vacation for my family and I.
Thank you Sandy for taking the time to share your thoughts and feelings about your vacation while staying at our home. We also want to congratulate you and your husband for celebrating 24 years together!
We were so happy with how you took care of our place during your visit.
With our regards,
Bob and Bonnie
Perfect location for exploring all that Portland has to offer
My family had a wonderful stay. The location is perfect. It was a short drive to everything we wanted to see and do. We went to the Harbor Fish Market for fresh lobster and cooked them up at the house. We enjoyed a full day exploring downtown Portland. We went to Hadlock Field and saw a Portland Sea Dogs game. We took the Casco Bay Lines ferry to Peaks Island for the day and explored on a golf cart. We also spent one glorious, sunny day just relaxing by the pool. Since we spent most of our days dining out, we used the grill at the house every night for dinner and enjoyed all our meals on the screened porch. The house was very well appointed with everything we needed. There was nothing we couldn’t find right down to a lobster pot and lobster crackers. Our only disappointment was that we had to leave! Thanks for sharing your home with us.
Thank you Kristen, the review of your experiences while at our home was so nicely done and we appreciate it!
We are thrilled about our place meeting and and even exceeding your expectations for your vacation! We also appreciate how well you took care of our place while there.
