About Vivienne and Andy Brister
Vivienne and Andy have lived in the bungalow adjacent to this property for the last 15 years and run a small home and garden antiques business from here known as Tinhouse Antiques.
Vivienne and Andy Brister purchased this Barn in 2001
Why Vivienne and Andy Brister chose Somerton
Our house and this property are set in a wonderful rural location with easy access to the town and the countryside. It is an ideal base location for seeing Somerset.
What makes this Barn unique
The Garden Room is a slightly unusual property in a lovely location. Constructed by a local timber frame craftsman approximately 12 years ago, it is located on our 2 acre property and is separate from our house, which is a timber clad wooden bungalow with a corrugated iron roof. This was built in 1920 to provide a smallholding for soldiers returning from the 1st World War. The idea being to regenerate the agricultural industry after the Great War. Along the lines of the 'Homes for Heroes' scheme. It is almost the last one remaining on South Hill which originally had a number of these, sadly most have now been demolished and replaced with modern homes.

We just love it...
Viv and Andy are great hosts, warm and welcoming, and their two little furry friends ('cheeky' Franky and beautiful Ruby are gorgeous! Our G Schnauzer 'Boris' bagged himself a 'pen pall' for the weekend. We had such a lovely time in The Garden Room, bright and airy, filled with beautiful antique treasures. A peaceful and relaxing place to spend time and unwind. We only popped down to Somerset for a new vehicle and ended up having such a wonderful weekend. Far exceeded our expectations, thanks again and would highly recommend. Helen, Paul & Boris x
Excellent, unusual retreat.
Enjoyed staying at The Garden Room, near local amenities but felt like a hidden gem! Loved strolling round the owners 2 acre garden with our dog. Lovely owners Andy and Viv, nice dogs too!
Thanking your for you lovely review and we are so glad you enjoyed your stay with us .. Maybe one day you will revisit .
Kind regards ,
Vivienne and Andrew oh and Frankie and Ruby ..
My husband and I visited the Garden room for a 2 week break before the birth of our child. The garden room came fully equipped and provided a homely, comfortable and peaceful retreat for us. The surroundings are beautiful and the owners, Viv and Andy are truly lovely. They were non intrusive but always there and offered advice and/or their services whenever needed.
The Garden room is within good proximity to many attractions and local amenities but rural enough to make you feel as though you were miles away from anywhere.
We truly loved our stay at the Garden room and would recommend to anyone looking to escape the pressures of everyday life.
We would also recommend the owners antique business situated within their property. For all those looking for a small treasure and/ or something beautiful to restore, this is the place to find it.
Thank you Viv and Andy for the opportunity to stay with you. We hope to see you again and will keep you updated on the soon approaching birth of our baby girl.

Lovely garden house
Nice area with lots of things to see. Lovely owners with 2 gorgeous little dogs (Frankie was my favourite). House gets warm in this hot summer, but cools down equally quick in the evening.
We are glad you enjoyed your stay.. Looking into getting a ice box , but found that they can a little noisy .. Lovely to meet you both .
Best wishes Vivienne and Andrew
Relaxing stay enjoyed by all members of the family especially the dog who enjoyed the peaceful walks
Excellent hosts friendly and informative about local pubs etc
Glad you found the Garden Room relaxing... Thank you for leaving ever thing so tidy .. Just a well behaved dog as well. Best wishes Vivienne and Andrew
Hidden gem in the Somerset Countryside
The Garden Room is a delightful and relaxing retreat. Everything you could possibly need in one big room with various places to sit outside to soak up the sun and enjoy a glass of something nice! The owners, Andy and Vivienne couldn't be more welcoming and helpful but not at all obtrusive. We fell in love with their two little dogs; Ruby and Frankie. Our dog Spotty also fell for Frankie! As a dog owner the luxury of having the use of the 2 acre garden with it's own little wood was a godsend. There are many Somerset attractions nearby and the local village of Somerton has everything you might need in the way of pubs, cafes, shops and amenities. It is also very pretty! We would highly recommend The Garden Room as a top place to stay and also checkout the owners garden ornament business; Tinhouse Antiques/reclamation. Thank you Andy and Vivienne, we hope to return!
Thank you both for your fabulous review and we are so glad that you both were relaxed and happy in the Garden Room as was Spotty .. Saturday night after you had gone Frankie was rather sad . It was lovely to meet you both and hope that you may return in the further .. Best wishes Vivienne Andrew Ruby and Frankie x
