Why Matt Brown and Joy Falkenburg chose Custer
Joy fell in love with this property from the moment she saw it. "I love the aspen trees and how it is tucked into the hillside". It is a beautiful home with all the amenities that make it wonderful. The house is beautiful inside and out. The paved driveway makes it even better. I love how close we are to Custer but I enjoy being outside the city limits and enjoy the peace and quiet.

Quiet house, great location
We stayed at this home as a group of 4 friends from across SD, gathering for a weekend get-away. It was a wonderful location and a lovely home that met all our needs. We cooked some of our meals...very easy in a fully supplied kitchen...and also ate in Custer (Highly recommend Skogen!).
Thank you so much!
I also, highly recommend Skogen.. and reservations with them. Hope to see you again.
A comfortable home away from home
The home is in a great location. There is a lot to see that is not too far away. We enjoyed watching the deer and other smaller creatures each day.
This house was perfect for our family of four. Great spot, convenient to the main road without feeling or sounding like it is, the place seems secluded when hanging out on the back porch and yard area. Saw deer every day, and our older kids enjoyed messing around in the woods near the house. We had unseasonably cool weather when there in August, and actually had to close windows at night to stay warm! Well-stocked kitchen in terms of supplies, we cooked a fair amount of meals. Beds very comfortable, master bath is quite nice. Big, clean garage. Just fyi- the tap water does have a color to it- think this topic was addressed in other reviews- but we had no issues from drinking it, and simply bought bottled water just for refilling water bottles to carry around on day trips. Only one tiny complaint- the bath towels need replacing, have a musty smell, maybe an effect of the hard water? More good points: the home is near enough to many sites/destinations, making it a great starting point for day trips (don't miss the Badlands, INCREDIBLE!!). There's a grocery store right in town (Lynn's Dakotamart) and Custer is so pleasant! Small, but sports a number of good restaurants and definitely enough shops, and the people are friendly. The couple who run the off-road buggy rental are so nice, and that's a blast for an afternoon- worth the money. Don't miss the little trading post on the right (on16) as you go into town (wagon wheels leaning on side of building), it's a treasure-trove of pelts, animal skulls, feathers and other stuff. Also, excellent rock shops on 16A east of town, beyond the grocery store.
Thank you for the review. I love the close proximity to town but the feeling of the countryside. The house is really great. I wanted you to know the following were addressed.
The water color cannot be changed even with Culligan and we don’t want to add chemicals to the drinking water, it has been tested and is very safe. It’s iron in the water.
We strive to always get the highest reviews and I had my cleaner review the towels, laundry and storing. They will be fresh and clean for all guests.
This is a beautiful home in a quiet setting, with deer wandering the neighborhood. We enjoyed the patio and grill very much. The beds were super comfortable. The hosts were extremely easy to deal with. The kitchen was very well stocked; we never lacked anything we wanted. Check-in and out was a breeze!
Outstanding property in Custer SD
Property was very nice and well maintained. Very close to many sites we wanted ti see and plenty of room for 8 people. I will stay here again when I go back to Custer.
Very clean. Convenient to area attractions. Nice setting.
Very easy process from booking to our departure. Great communication from owners. Very comfortable, pleasant home.
You should see the Black Hills from here! Custer is your central location to see all the sights. Crazy Horse is within 6 miles. Mount Rushmore is about 30 min. Custer State Park is minutes away. Hot Springs with Wind Cave and Mammoth Site is 25 minutes away. Deadwood is 45 minutes and Sturgis is one hour away.
You can enjoy a busy day and relax in this private home in a beautiful setting. Local restaurants include Black Hills Burger and Bun which was named the number one burger in the nation in 2014. The golf course is next door and there is a playground about 1 mile away. This is your perfect destination.
Bring your hiking shoes, climbing gear, bicycle or motorcycle and enjoy the outdoor beauty of the Black Hills. Rest and Relax and do nothing. Enjoy the friendly people in the surrounding communities and feel free to text the owners questions you have about your stay.
You are going to love it here!
