About Matt Brown and Joy Falkenburg

Matt Brown and Joy Falkenburg purchased this house in 2015

Why Matt Brown and Joy Falkenburg chose Black Hills

Joy fell in love with this property from the moment she saw it. "I love the aspen trees and how it is tucked into the hillside". It is a beautiful home with all the amenities that make it wonderful. The house is beautiful inside and out. The paved driveway makes it even better. I love how close we are to Custer but I enjoy being outside the city limits and enjoy the peace and quiet.

Getting away from it all...

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I recently headed west for vacation in South Dakota. We made the Woodcarver's Cottage our home base for outings to Devil's Tower, the Badlands, and other sites within a 2 hour circle. We were grateful for this cozy home to relax in after each day's outing. It had everything we needed, plus wildlife right outside! Definitely would recommend this one!

Beautiful property in a great location to explore the Black Hills

  • 5 of 5

The house is very nice and is in a great location. There is lots of room for a family. We had 4 adults/2 kids and we were very comfortable. We saw deer on the property everyday of our stay. The property is located very close to Highway 16 but far enough away that it still feels very private. Custer is a great town with lots of good food choices. We had easy drives to Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse Memorial, and Custer State Park. I would highly recommend this property for a Black Hills vacation.

Nice House, Nice Owners

  • 5 of 5

We loved the house and the quiet surrounding wooded area. It was perfect for exploring all of the major sites in the Black Hills. The owners were very nice and helpful, even offering some travel agent type tips which were very helpful. We truly enjoyed our trip to this wonderful place!

Wonderful

  • 5 of 5

Well maintained and nicely decorated home nestled in quiet woody area just outside town of Custer. We loved watching the deer around the property each day. Home is minutes away from wind cave and beautiful Custer park. Badlands national park is around 1 1/2 hour drive. Mount Rushmore is about 30 minutes away. Loved our stay at the property and would definitely stay at the home again.

Quiet setting, convenient location

  • 5 of 5

The house and property is well maintained. The amenities were as described. The kitchen was well equipped for what we needed, and beds were very comfortable. The kids had fun exploring the backyard wooded area and playing football in the front yard lawn area. The grill and fire pit were a nice feature to have.

The home is located right outside of Custer which is convenient if you need to get buy groceries or visit the shops. Jewel and Wind Caves, Mount Rushmore, and Keystone weren't too far away. I don't know actual distance, but it didn't take too long to get to any of them. We spent a fair amount of time in the nearby Sylvan Lake area, if you are looking for some good hiking trails. A good time. I highly recommend.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much! I tend to think that the drives in the Black Hills are my favorite part of going to most of the sights. I like to take a different road and access Sylvan Lake through needles hwy and Mt Rushmore via Iron Mtn road. It is so beautiful!
