About Susie Oringel

About the owner: After a lifetime in music and education, we've retired and are busy enjoying life. We have time now to enjoy our two daughters and their families with three wonderful grandsons and an enchanting granddaughter. We live in Fishers Indiana, home of sports on steroids.

Susie Oringel purchased this cottage in 2001

Why Susie Oringel chose Kiawah Island

Why the Owner Chose Inlet Cove:

We bought our little piece of paradise quite by accident when we visited Kiawah for a friend's wedding. When we saw our cottage, we thought it was almost too good to be true. It had everything we were looking for in a place by the sea. There's an easy walk to the beach and a beautiful pool and the location by the river makes it ideal for us to enjoy canoeing and kayaking. We also catch Atlantic blue crabs there that we love to eat! The house itself has a screened porch, a fireplace and a view of the water. What could be better?

The place was great!

  • 5 of 5

The place was very nice: clean, well maintained, comfortable.

I have been renting through Susan for more than 12 years now.

She does amazing job organizing everything and communicating.

Kiawah island is one of my favorite places for an easy family vacation.

We usually stay on the island spending time on the beach any cycling around. We do couple trips to Charleston sightseeing.

Nice place

  • 4 of 5

We were blessed to get to stay here a few days with extended family. Very nice neighborhood. We all had a wonderful time. Sitting out on the screened in porch was nice, although there was some construction going on that ruined the tranquility a bit. Look forward to getting back here in the future.

Great location! Very clean! 5 minute walk to beach or pool!

  • 5 of 5

Plenty of inside space for our two year old to run around with a perfect location for walks to the beach and pool! House is very clean and quiet! Comfortable beds and furniture throughout! Kitchen fully stocked with utensils, dishes, pots, and pans! Gas grill outside!

'Kiawah Island by Owner' management (Susie) is wonderful and available day or night by phone if needed! Looking forward to next years stay already!

Thanks again!

Good Location

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay even with the LOUD construction work nearby. Being close to the beach path was definitely a plus and you could even see a little bit of a river view. We appreciated that all bedrooms had TVs. My recommendation: clean all of the upholstery -- every piece of furniture in the living room smells of dirty clothes. Also, the kitchen is in need of a cutting board.

Beautiful, well-equipped house in outstanding resort community

  • 5 of 5

This house is located in a small Kiawah neighborhood outside the main security gate of Kiawah. It's big plus is access to the Kiawah River--beautiful river, marsh, and sunset views plus a floating boat dock and a community swimming pool. There is a view of the river from the porch looking down a narrow tidal creek. However, you can get more spectacular views by walking or cycling to the dock--a short distance away.

The Kiawah beach is one of the most beautiful in the U.S. It's 10 miles long, is not marred by ugly beach-side buildings, and can be ridden upon with a bicycle except at high tide. There are pelicans, dolphins, wading birds, crabs, etc. The beach is close to the house, but be sure to follow the owner's instructions for finding it because the street and bicycle path network is confusing. Due to construction, beach access via Beachwalker Drive may be blocked, but other routes are equally close.

If you want to see all of Kiawah, be sure to rent a bicycle. Two-thirds of the island are off-limits to cars for renters at Inlet Cove. You can get restricted car access to the rest of the island by making either a restaurant reservation or a golf reservation in the car-restricted area. There are no limits for bicycles, and bicycle trails and the beach provide unlimited access.

Bicycling hint: Ride on the beach with the wind at your back; return on an inland bicycle trail. The wind is much stronger on the beach! The printed Kiawah map doesn't show all the bicycle trails, so find the pdf version on-line, which has much better coverage of the trails.

The kitchen is unusually well-equipped. High-quality pots, skillets, plates, bowls, etc. We added a colander, but it didn't have potholders.

Beds are very comfortable.

Economy note: You can save a lot of money by eating at home. Visit the Harris-Teeter at the nearby Fresh Fields shopping area which is located just off the traffic circle about 2 miles down the road towards Charleston.

Charleston is only about 35 minutes away. It's a must-see with beautiful and historic architecture, hidden gardens, parks, and river and harbor views. Buy a guidebook or go the Visitors Center.

Caveats: Driveway is in bad condition due to tree roots pushing up the pavement and creating large puddles extending all the way across the driveway when it has rained. Also, access to the house is via a two-flight stairway (see picture) which can be challenging for persons with mobility issues

Owner's Response: Thank you very much for your detailed review. We know that future guests will appreciate all this information. Please note: all renters of this cottage receive a gate pass to drive onto most of Kiawah, including The Sanctuary, Night Heron Park, Conference Center, etc. Our guests are not able to drive through the 2nd guard gate onto Vanderhorst Plantation unless they are playing golf at The Ocean Course or Osprey Course. We look forward to welcoming you back to 99 Inlet Cove cottage!

Great Labor Day Vacation - SEP 16

  • 5 of 5

This cottage was everything we wanted for our family vacation over Labor Day. Susie was very responsive to all of our questions before we arrived so there were no surprises. We had everything we needed in the kitchen for our meals we prepared and good recommendations for local restaurants. As advertised, the beach is a short walk - not a problem for anyone in our group. I would definitely recommend this cottage for families - we will look to return!
