Roomy, comfortable, and beautiful!

  • 5 of 5

Our group of 15 traveled to Alabama for a fishing tournament. All guests were in awe of the place! Plenty of room for everyone comfortably. Loved porch sitting and fishing off the dock. The owners were hospitable enough to give us a few pointers and even broaden my vocabulary because we call a "cork" a "bobber ". Good people and glad to get a chance to meet them. This house made our week long experience the best it could be! I would recommend this property to anyone!

Very nice property. Would stay again.

Very nice people to deal with. A very beautiful house and property. Had a couple very minor problems that were immediately taken care of. I only mention them because the owners took care of them plus did things to make sure we were comfortable. Stay here you will be happy!

My View

  • 4 of 5

I usually do not give reviews. I vote with where I spend my cash. I was a bit surprised to read a recent review of this home. Here are my observations.

There was a very good supply of plates, glassware, cups, bowls, serving pieces, cooking utensils, flatware, knife selection and towels. The swimming, boating, fishing, kayaking and relaxation were the reasons we came and we enjoyed those activities immensely.

The garage and what was in it including the refrigerator I considered none of our business so it did not bother me. I did not need the docking space so was not concerned with how the owners chose to store their personal items. We did not experience the lawn crew, the septic smell or the wasp nests. We did not use the garbage disposal. I live without one at home. No big deal.

My daughter-in-law, who has rental property, used the downstairs bedroom and bathroom without complaint. My 6'4" son navigated the steps to the upstairs without complaint. The light switches were a puzzlement. We never did get them all figured out but suffered no inconveniences because of them. About those cobwebs: they will probably disappear when spring house cleaning is done and there will be different ones in place to greet us when we return next summer.

Not very much in this world is excellent. I would, however, say good+ because the rental provided us the space and amenities we needed to enjoy each other's company. Looking forward to returning and spending special time with my family.

Has a lot of potential, but needs some elbow grease and attention to detail to get it right

  • 2 of 5

The overall location of the house is good.

The rooms: The master bedroom & "kids" room are HUGE - Also the main level bathroom, upstairs bathroom and master bathroom are nice as well. The basement bathroom (beside the double bed room downstairs) leaves A LOT to be desired. When you open the door, the toilet is immediately to your left. Then you step up the 8-12" step to to the shower platform. Now to your left is the shower....wow.. It looks like a mobile home (trailer) shower was screwed into place, with a saggy shower bar to boot. After the shower, there is the sink - also to the left. Overall, this bathroom is extremely small - Moving around in the room with my wife was a challenge. The other room that was a little small was the double bed on the main floor. The steps that lead upstairs take a lot of head room out of the room and a tall person would surely hit their head. Kitchen - Both the ice maker in the refrigerator and in cabinet ice maker were not working when we arrived. The maint guy stopped in our first night to let us know that parts were on the way to fix the in cabinet one and that he would return the next day - never did - I contacted the owner, he came back and we finally had ice. Also, the 7 am landscaping crew on Monday was a little much.

- Maint / Cleanliness are the biggest issues. Ill be brief:

Garage - Piles of junk/garbage - trash left from when a patio set was installed. There is the "dirt fridge" as we called it - moldy food, old beer, etc

- Building and grounds - A little run down (it was built in the 70s?) but trash, fishing rods, propane tanks, old candles etc litter the place. Cobwebs, windows, etc - nothing looks like its been touched in a really long time.

- Light switches - Some seem to do nothing, but then some lights don't seem to have a switch - some fans don't work. I get there were at least 12 bulbs that did not work on our stay.

- Garbage disposal - it has one, but you are asked not to use it because of septic tank - there was also a septic smell behind the house on the way to the docks - likely needs pumped out.

- Boat dock - There is a two stall dock, but the owners left their pontoon boat docked - Not really an issue , but the cover was just left laying on the dock decking and all the fishing gear hanging off the boat. Also - Wasps nests on the dock we had to kill.

For the cost of the rental w/ cleaning, I expected much better. This is the dirtiest rental I've ever had.

I felt it was a well kept, clean house.

  • 5 of 5

Our overall experience was absolutely wonderful! Being right on the lake was such a treat. We hung out on the boat pier all day long. The kids enjoyed jumping from the upper deck (which I believe is a recent addition). We rented some paddle boards and a kayak and had a blast. We also liked the outdoor fireplace area and the huge screened in porch, where the view was fabulous. We had 14 people altogether and there was plenty of room for us. I would love to go back again sometime!

With my high praises, I would also like to add that I felt like it could have used that once a year spring cleaning....like power washing the outside patio and outdoor furniture, cleaning the cobwebs from the windows and making sure all the lightbulbs worked. The outdoor furniture was in a bit of disarray with chairs turned over and such. A little bit more attention to "presentation" and the house would be perfection!

The cabin was perfect for our needs. It was a great place to reconnect and unwind. There was enough things for everyone to do. Was a peaceful and beautiful place. Thank you again for letting us stay.
