Wonderful location

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful accomodations, wonderful hospitality from Jim and Cate, and proximity to excellent Driftless fishing make this a great find. Their recommendations of fishing locations and flies, freshly baked scones and muffins, and even their willingness to help with a car problem made this VRBO experience unique and special.

A wonderful place to stay

  • 5 of 5

I had previously read the glowing reviews of this rental property and so my expectations were high. But seeing is believing! The view of the valley from Newton Ridge is stunning. The accommodations were excellent; the mattresses were extremely comfy so that sleeping was great, and the air conditioning was strong -- an absolute necessity, given the hot humid weather that the Driftless area was experiencing at the time. Cate's morning scones, pastries, and breads also lived up to their advance billing. Best of all, I made a good friend in Jim, who guided me for two days on the area's trout streams. He is friendly and knowledgeable, with a great sense of humor. I will definitely be returning, and this rental will be the only place I'll stay when I'm in the area.

Best location and accommodation in the Viroqua area.

  • 5 of 5

Jim and Kate were extremely helpful and generous with their time. They gave us great information and advice on everything from birding spots, fishing, eating in restaurants and whatever else we wondered about. Morning baked goods were delish! The view, evenings at the fire pit on the deck (set up courtesy of Jim), and comfortable lodging make this a great choice.

Fantastic place to stay while enjoying the Driftless area.

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I fully agree with all the previous 5 star ratings given by previous guests. The place is immaculate and Jim was the perfect host. More like a friend. I love to fly fish for trout and the valley below offers some of the best streams in the Driftless. Jim happens to be a trout fishing guide so it was enjoyable to talk about our mutual interests around the fire on the patio after catching and releasing as many trout as one would want. My wife and I were surprised and pleased by the tasty breakfast treats every morning that Jim would prepare for us. View is spectacular, birds singing in abundance every morning, turkeys gobbling at dawn and the owls calling at dusk. We couldn't ask for more. Just sorry we missed meeting Cate who happened to be visiting her son.

Newton Ridge Lodge has the best view in Vernon County. Our ridge view of the North Fork of the Bad Ax River is simply amazing. We are located within minutes of the best trout fishing in the driftless area. The North Fork of the Bad Ax River is just minutes away as is Duck Egg County Park, and Eagle Eye Mississippi Valley Conservancy area. Duck Egg Park is great for hiking, fly fishing, birding, and horse back riding(you supply the horse) . Vernon County is known for it's organic farms, and restaurants, and farmers market. Amish farms also abound with furniture shops, quilts, and bakeries. The area hosts bike races, music events, and the county fair. The Driftless Café is a must do while in the area. This restaurant features locally farmed food. The Mississippi River is 15 minutes away with beautiful vistas and eagle watching. Star gazing is incredible in the darkness of the coulee nights.
