Jim and Cate are great hosts.
Amazing views. Great bed. Great sitting area and porch. Awesome birds.
Note: the room is in the walk out basement of Jim and Cate’s house. Great hosts.
I imagine it’s a trout fisherman’s dream. I hope to go back with my brother and Dad. Jim is a guide.
Could not have been better!
Great place. Terrific view, super clean, hosts were as nice as could be. It was perfect, can’t wait to go back.
Perfect Driftless VRBO
Whether you are looking for a place to stay during a fishing trip in the Driftless, or just looking to relax and enjoy the view and other attractions in the area, this is the place to stay. Amazingly clean rental with a great view. We enjoyed everything about the rental as well as Jim and Cate's hospitality. Jim has a wealth of knowledge regarding fishing in the area and is willing to share it, and Cate's morning pastries, especially scones, were delicious! We will be back.
We really enjoyed hosting you and your family! We will look forward to your next visit with us.
My husband and I own a company that provides cares for individuals with severe disabilities. It is the most rewarding business but it has its stressors. We no more than put our stuff away and we were out in the back taking in the view. Our visit was in April before anything turned green. It was still very beautiful. We came for needed rest and did just that. The muffins and variety of scones were a nice surprise. We were surprised with snow in spring and Jim was out clearing the walks right away. He even came and started a fire for us. We sat out back with berries, wine and hot cocoa and took it all in. The ground was covered in a fresh blanket of snow, the birds were chirping and singing as the snow fell on us. A warm fire and the taste of berries had our senses engaged and happy. Of course any get away relies on your creativity but Cate and Jim will come along side and help it's success. We stopped by the Driftless restaurant for a bite to eat. We also drove around taking in the scenery. Tucked away looking over a beautiful view, enjoying nature and each other, we received the needed rest we sought for. We just wanted to leave a review and thank Cate and Jim for the little details that made our stay enjoyable. Enjoy!
Very clean and well appointed. The beds are wonderfully comfortably!
We would stay here again. The hosts are friendly and accommodating but also respect your privacy. Surroundings and view from property lend to a serene and relaxing stay. Not far from great restaurants and nice hiking trails.
Thank you! We loved having you stay here. We look forward to hosting you again in the future.
Outstanding property and great owners
I’ve stayed with Jim and Cate several times and their hospitality is top notch. Their home is comfortable and beautifully furnished, but it’s the hosts themselves that make it a great place to stay. From Jim’s fishing tips to Cate’s scones, this is the place to stay in the Driftless.
We love having Brian and his son, Phil as guests. We look forward to your next visit.
Newton Ridge Lodge has the best view in Vernon County. Our ridge view of the North Fork of the Bad Ax River is simply amazing. We are located within minutes of the best trout fishing in the driftless area. The North Fork of the Bad Ax River is just minutes away as is Duck Egg County Park, and Eagle Eye Mississippi Valley Conservancy area. Duck Egg Park is great for hiking, fly fishing, birding, and horse back riding(you supply the horse) . Vernon County is known for it's organic farms, and restaurants, and farmers market. Amish farms also abound with furniture shops, quilts, and bakeries. The area hosts bike races, music events, and the county fair. The Driftless Café is a must do while in the area. This restaurant features locally farmed food. The Mississippi River is 15 minutes away with beautiful vistas and eagle watching. Star gazing is incredible in the darkness of the coulee nights.
