Owner's Response: John, I'm glad that you and your wife enjoyed your time at the cabin and thanks for the five-star rating. For this time of the year the creek and Yuba River were really high which is exciting to see. Believe it or not, the volume in the creek can easily get 3 to 4 times what you saw – absolute Whitewater. Cheers, Jim

Terrific quiet very private hideaway

  • 5 of 5

First off, we will be back!!!! This totally private secluded cottage looks onto an uninhabited creek bed with lovely creek sounds. Jim is a terrific host; there when you want him; unobtrusive when you want privacy. The cottage is as advertised. It is a studio, but has a kitchenette for those of us that cook, you can do a lot with two burners and a microwave! We left the place completely open and unlocked the entire time. A bit warm in July during the day but totally cools off at night to the 50's. Sherpa, the golden retriever dog of the property, is a well-behaved host as well. I am not a dog person. Sherpa welcomed us but no licking or jumping; delightful dog. We enjoyed a glass of wine with Jim at the main house and learned a lot about the property and got to know Jim. Jim, can't wait to return!!!

Peaceful Retreat

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful spot, cozy cottage. It had everything we needed for our stay. Jim was so accommodating and helpful with details requested in advance of arrival. This is a secluded spot but within a very easy distance to town. Great for catching up on some reading and just enjoying a break from the city. We would definitely stay again.

Owner's Response: Sarah, Thank you for your nice review of our cottage in Downieville and the five-star rating. I'm glad that you guys had a good time and the relaxing atmosphere helped you recharge. I agree that it is a beautiful cozy cottage and having a waterfall right out of your window is a nice feature to both see and hear all night long. Hope you guys get to come again! Cheers, Jim Steinbarth

Owner's Response: Kathryn, Thank you for your nice comments and five-star rating. It was nice to meet the 2 of you and I'm glad that you enjoyed the sound of the Creek every night. The cottage is very remote and that's what most people like about it. It's just nice to get away once in a while. Cheers,

Relaxing beautiful retreat

  • 5 of 5

I would rate my stay 10 stars if I could. I want to thank Jim and Susie allowing us to share their piece of heaven. The accommodations were clean and had everything you needed . The bonus was being able to play with Sherpa and Benton.

Thanks again

Brian and Melissa

We were looking for a slower pace

  • 4 of 5

We toured the region (Downieville, Sierra City, Calpine, Sierraville} etc. Played in the Yuba; saw an Osprey swoop down and grab a trout from a pond in Sierra City. Had a wonderful picnic along the Yuba. Enjoyed sweet cherry tomatoes from Jim's garden. Loved the stick throws with Sherpa and Benson and the nights as black as coal. It was as advertised and more.

If you can give up the electronic world for a few days, you will love this cabin, with screened deck and outside patio, all facing a small cascading waterfall. Excellent vacation.

Map

Located on 12 1/2 acres with 400 foot of the North Fork of the Yuba River and 1800 foot of one of the largest tributaries. One of the most beautiful settings in the Sierras!
