About Derek Goodchild
Hi my name is Derek, my background is in Advertising and Branding. It has been a long held ambition of mine to develop a unique property to offer luxury self catering holiday accommodation and when the opportunity presented itself I jumped at the chance, it had to be Edinburgh! I am sure this 200 year old Georgian apartment will add a unique experience to your stay in Edinburgh.
Derek Goodchild purchased this Apartment in 2016
Why Derek Goodchild chose New Town
I love the Georgian architecture of the 'New Town' area of the city. It's called the new town as it was build built in stages between 1767 and around 1850. The cities wealthy moved out of the cramped old medieval streets into fine Georgian town houses on wide street. Many of which have now been divided into apartments. The apartment has recently undergone extensive restoration being careful to preserve all of the fantastic original period features such as marble fireplaces and fine cornice and plaster work. The main drawing room (lounge) has fully restored tall Georgian windows and shutters, beautiful high ceilings and a bowed wall. Wide plank oak floors, limestone tiles and granite all add a touch of luxury to this spacious accommodation. The apartment was previously the home of a British Army Major who became the business manager of the Edinburgh Military Tattoo for over 20 years until his retirement. He is widely recognised for developing the event into the great international spectacle that it is today.
What makes this Apartment unique
It's a beautiful apartment, being so close to the city centre it's easy to reach all sites and located on one of Edinburgh's most prestigious streets.

Beautiful Georgian in Amazing Location!!!
Highly recommend! The apt was beautiful and the location, on one of the prettiest streets in the New Town side of Edinburgh, was the perfect spot for quaint and quiet, yet within walking distance of Old Town and many sites.
This was our first trip to Scotland, a surprise trip for my husband, and Derek was so very helpful through my entire planning process, always quickly responding to all my questions. He also gave us great suggestions for that special dinner spot and his breakfast spot, The Pantry, is Excellent!
Derek met us at the apt, gave us the tour, and really filled us in on how things worked. We'll be back again!
Thank you Derek!!
All the Best, Bob & Lisa
The apartment was immaculate and well appointed. Derek was such a helpful host. He made us feel so welcome and gave lots of helpful information about the neighborhood. We look forward to returning for another visit
A perfect stay
Everything about this apartment is wonderful....the location, the cleanliness, the quality of materials provided and the owner. You immediately feel at home in the apartment because it is so well laid out and so well furnished....everything you need has been thought about and is of very high quality.
We spent lovely time ambling around Stockbridge, and then up to the main town too, both of which are a comfortable 10 mins stroll away.
Derek was the perfect host welcoming us on arrival and setting us up with some ideas of places to visit, eat and drink.
We could not recommend highly enough and look forward to revisiting soon.
Beautiful flat in Edinburgh!
This flat is gorgeous and spacious! It has incredible amenities and is within walking distance of all the sites in Edinburgh. Additionally, our host gave us great local recommendations. I would highly recommend staying here!
The apartment is very clean, well decorated and equipped. It is located in a nice neighborhood. Derek is very efficient and responsive.
Excellent location, beautiful property, responsive host.
The apartment is very spacious with a large living room, large bedroom, kitchen and double shower room.
The location is perfect for all the city centre attractions and business districts. Northumberland Street is about a 10 minute walk from the city centre and in the other direction the more relaxed atmosphere of Stockbridge which is full of interesting artisan shops, bars and restaurants.
Within yards of the apartment are Tesco and Sainsburys general stores which are very useful for all the daily items you will need. The street is mainly residential with little traffic and once inside the apartment it’s very quiet and peaceful.
There are many local amenities being so close to the city centre, highlights include:
The Omni Cinema & restaurant complex and the Playhouse Theatre, Stockbridge high street, The Botanic gardens, Broughton high street and of course The Royal Mile, Princess Street and George Street the main shopping street in the city are all within easy walking distance.
