About David Swetland
I lived in the area briefly in the mid-1980's and have made frequent trips to the area ever since. Several of my relatives live in the Bluffton/HHI area. I currently live and work in central Pennsylvania.
David Swetland purchased this House in 2014
Why David Swetland chose Port Royal
I have been visiting the lowcountry for more than 30 years. Several years ago I had the chance to spend a week in Port Royal and was hooked by everything it had to offer. In 2014, I took the plunge and purchased this place. I have done my best to create a place that I look forwarding to visit when I can. At present, however, I need to help care for my Mom who lives in Bluffton whenever I am in the area. While I am busy helping out my family, I am making it available as a rental.

We traveled to South Carolina for my son's Marine boot camp graduation. This was the perfect place for us! The house was clean and in a quite neighborhood. It was very close to the base! Port Royal is a very nice little town. I would recommend staying here if you are traveling to the area.
We found the peaceful cottage to be just that - and it suited us perfectly.
Nestled in a charming, quiet town is this wonderful, well- appointed cottage. Our family was looking for a spot to welcome our new Marine following his graduation. We also wanted to unwind and enjoy the natural beauty of this historic area not far from the ocean. David's place in a quaint neighborhood provided ample room for two adults and our nearly-grown children. The interior is beautifully remodeled and quite comfortable. The kitchen was fully equipped with sufficient dishes and cookery to allow us to enjoy family meals in the adjoining dining room. The surrounding region provides a wide range of activities and opportunities to suit the fancies of a variety of travelers. Visitors to Port Royal should avail themselves of a stroll through the Cypress Marsh/rookery and a stop at the Pluff Mudd Coffee Co. (owned by a Marine, we learned). There are several other quaint dining options, historical sites and, for those seeking the open ocean, Hunting Island State Park. Modern conveniences/stores are "just around the corner." Our host, David, was very accommodating, attentive, and accessible. We highly recommend this destination.
Nice, quite location! Relaxing!
Great location, great owner
Rented this for my brothers graduation from bootcamp and it was great. Everything was cute and comfortable. Only 10 drive to the base and was a cute quite little neighborhood. The owner is very responsive to emails and communication. Definitely would rent here again.
Fantastic! A comfortable and welcoming home
A comfortable and welcoming home that is well kept and larger than it looks. The owner was prompt in answering the questions i had before booking. This is about 10 min from Parris Island with traffic...perfect for graduation. Our Marine was glad we rented this and was happy to spend the night here....well worth the $ which was less than a hotel. Nice quiet neighborhood too. 💖💖💖 this place!
Lovely property which is very convenient to Parris Island.
The house is perfectly charming and met our every need. It's also just minutes from Parris Island if the purpose of your trip is a graduation. After booking, I had to make some changed to my trip and the owner was very responsive and accommodating. Highly recommend!
The house is located in the old village area of the sleepy coastal town of Port Royal, South Carolina. The local riverside beach, boat launch, pier, and observation tower are less than a mile away. This a very popular spot for walkers, joggers, fisherman, and lovely sunsets over Parris Island (see picture). If you like massive Live Oak trees covered with Spanish Moss, you won't find many places prettier than Port Royal.
The village has several good restaurants, frequent street festivals and concerts along Paris Avenue, and very friendly inhabitants.
The beautiful oceanside beach at Hunting Island State park is about 20 minutes by car. It is a popular (but remote) unspoiled beach with a cool lighthouse you can visit.
The Cypress Wetlands nature trail is a short walk away. This is a great place to see wildlife - with an abundance of bird species.
Downtown Beaufort with its grand Waterfront Park and shopping district is approximately 5 miles away.
Parris Island, with the Marine Corps Recruit Depot, is about 2 miles away - just over the bridge. Parris Island has an excellent museum.
Savannah, Georgia is less than an hour's drive. Charleston, SC is about 90 minutes away by car.
Hilton Head Island, though located just across Port Royal sound, is about a 45 minute drive
